      In a livestream I asked why he didn't crowdsource his shop and he said he didn't feel comfortable doing that. I think he's wrong though. :)

    Dunno how the hell Subaru of America can say its a sealed unit with lifetime fluid when it goes in a nice light blue and comes out looking like that after ~100 000 miles.

    Did TR580 CVTF fluid changes myself couples of months ago. Gotta say, for DIYers, the hardest part is getting the car jacked and leveled.

      @@v0mdragon Didn't do the learning thing. The fluid came out pretty clean, there isn't much of difference after 4k.

    Hey my man, I’m a’ European car tech so Subaru is uncharted territory for me 🤣. If I only replace the lock duty solenoid do I still need to perform the AT learning process? Or is it only needed when replacing the entire valve body? Great video by the way, you truly explain everything in a straightforward and very didactic way! Keep it up my bro

    I put a smart level up against the chassis that is how I level the vehicle. Also a garden sprayer works just as good but a lot cheaper than the automotive application pump

    I was going to replace the valve body on my 2012 Impreza, but the local dealership quoted me $1800 to replace it and do a full CVT service. Seems like a decent deal. Another Subaru dealer quoted me at like $2600. Amazing how different dealerships can be.

    How important is the learning process? Would it be ok to skip going to the dealer after changing the valve body?

      I just changed my valve body. I have a 300 dollar scanner from auto zone that I used to clear the codes after I hooked everything back up. No lights on and it’s driving fine. I’m ready to change my fluid and have the same question.

    Funny no one mentions that Subuaru CVTF is just Idemitsu CVTF-Type SB which you can also get int 5qt jugs.

    Vid is good to go. Appreciate all your vids very much. After replacing valve body do you think the logic in the vehicle's computer will figure out the re-learn in the course of normal driving. Or is it imperative to manual re-learn with scan tool. 100+ dollars just to get appointment at the dealer
    to hook up the scanner.

    Hi, very nice videos, thank you so much. I replaced the valve body on my outback 2012 (TR690), and a friend helped me with the learning process, everything is working as it should. However, the AT OIL TEMP light is flashing in 8 times/2 seconds intervals. I read is because the TCM is in learning mode, I just wanted to know if is there a way to stop the light from flashing without the scanner tool… Any guidance you can provide would be really appreciate it.

    Dang, I was thinking of doing this myself but if it's recommended to do an AT reset, I guess I'll have to take it in. Mine is at 94k and starting to hesitate around 13 mph.

    You don’t have to do the re learn on a drain a fill right? You’re doing this since you replaced the valve body. Also can you use a temperature gun for the transmission temp?

    Roughly how much CVT fluid did you use for this?
    I'm replacing a valve body in my 2012 Impreza and doing a change and fill. I don't want to buy too much, but I also want to have enough without running back for more fluid.

    If the valve body replacement was successful should I expect the check engine lights to come back on if I don't get the relearn done right away and try driving it for maybe a day?

    Really enjoy your videos! I’m considering buying my first Subaru. I’ve had a few different rav4’s and was able to get 260,000 miles out of both. I’ve found a nice clean 2017 forester with 27,000 miles. If we keep up with the maintenance is there a good chance it would go the 250,000 mile range?

    I'm about to change just the 3 ohm solenoid in the valve body. Do you think I will need the relearn process if just one solenoid that was faulting out has been replaced?

    My 2013 Outback , 2.5 is having issues.. just started this morning.
    I had some smoke from the Hood as I pulled up to my shop…
    Was driving fine the way in..
    I live in NY, stuck at work 19 miles from home
    Car gets up to 2-3 RPM before moving.. kinda Jerks..
    Idk what to do.
    the “Transmission fluid temp” light came on. Along with Check engine- Brake and Cruise control..
    I seriously think I may be Cursed..
    what a week.. FML

    Mr Subaru I have a concern and need your advice, I have a 2014 outback 2.5 I had the tranny replaced at 246,000km with a used one that had 140,000km I have since put on 40,000km and the car is starting to sputter they say it probably the torque converter, can it be repaired or do I have to replace it and advice would be greatly appreciated

    Mr Subaru, I bought my 2015 outback with 87k miles. Idk if the fluid has been changed out. Should i do a flush or just change? One or two changes now and then at 120k? Do i change the filter too?

    valve body replacement is 5000k puls in Australian can a just change the fluid Will that work I got lights on the dashboard, the car has 215k on it

    hi there. some drain the old oil via the oilcooler hoses, so the pump pushes the old oil out while topping up through the fillplug. my question is: could this harm the cvt when no oil is going back in the system but captured in a bottle? i didnt find any drawings of the lubrication tr580 lubrication system to verify if that method is benefitial for diy flushing the cvt or not. thx :)

    hey, i have an odd question probably. I bought the oil and imported it to germany, bought the exact same oil pump... but it only sucks oil but does not transfer.... did you use any external pump to create pressure inside the cylinder?

    How to we do the re-learn without Select Monitor? ActiveOBD can read the temp, but I don't know of a way to initiate the re-learn.

      @@chukkelz4425 nope, I'm going to bite the bullet and have Subaru do mine. Don't want to spend $800 on a part, have an issue, have it blamed on the re-learn, and end up paying Subaru to do it anyhow. I'm not sure if smaller shops have a diagnostic tool that can initiate the re-learn. I also reached out to SOA as I've seen people in certain states mention a PZEV warranty up to 150k to which SOA will partially or completely cover the repair

      @@chukkelz4425 what state do you live in? The dealer just called me this afternoon and said my car is covered under the PZEV warranty despite being 10yrs old and having 130k on the odometer. The repair will be at NO COST to me

    Mr. Subaru, great video. I'm planning on doing a drain and fill on my CVT soon, and I'll be dropping the pan to clean the magnet off (110k on the car). What gasket sealant would you recommend for resealing the pan as TB1217b is usually unavailable, and it gets confusing to figure out what alternative to use?

      You have a 5EAT conventional automatic transmission, not a CVT. ATF should be drained and refilled every 3yr/36k miles.

    Hey Mr. Subaru. I know that this is not the topic you are talking about. I just wonder about using the Penzoil Ultra Platinum oil 0W20 on my 2021 Ascent and high mileage same oil for the 2013 Legacy. What are your thoughts on WIX XP vs WIX oil filters, XP is impossible to find in Canada. Great video as always.

    My former local Subaru dealer stripped out the fill hole threads on my TR580 and just used form a gasket to hold the plug in there. Does anybody have any suggestions on a better fix than this.m? It constantly weeps.

    my name is Christina using my friends youtybe so I have 11 subaru legacy 2.5i premium when I first got the car one day it kept dying on me had it checked at a subaru dealership they said nothing was wrong with it then found out they never actually looked at my car that day now my car won't go at all and go as In it will start coast but as soon as I push on the gas it stall out and dies and sometimes it won't let me start it again and I've cleaned the throttle body replaced the map and maf sensor please do have any idea what it could be

    One note: especially if you are in a hot climate, if you've say driver your Subaru to your buddy's to do the drain and fill, let it sit for 3+ hours. If you drain hot CVT fluid out of a hot tranny and pump in new fluid, the new fluid will quickly be over the check temperature. You'll then have to either let the car cool down for a long time or just send it!

    Replacing Valve Body at home. Closest dealership is 45min away. Am I okay to drive that far before doing relearn? Is the relearn worth the money?

      You can drive it, but the relearn process is best to be done asap.

    Best thing Subaru could do is get rid of dealerships. Just have service centers and sell cars online.

      193k on this one. 223k on my 2013 Crosstrek. 210k miles on my brother's 2011 Outback. Just posted about a 350k mile one, original. They last when cared for.

      Enough. 😂 I honestly don't know. I have Ober a gallon in the transfer pump. I never measure it. Just fill it until it's set to factory procedure. Ballpark around 6-8qts

      I brought mine in because the light wasn’t coming on where the automatic shifter is. When I went to pick it up they had all the plastic taken off and stole in the backseat. Wouldn’t put it past them….
