Ditto! In the early 70's. 1970- I played Neil Young, Beatles, etc. guitar songs. As a believer then but needing a church and fellowship with Christians I didn't have this. I dreamed as I played Cinnamon Girl, etc. that Neil Young would get saved. He didn't so far, but I changed the lyrics of his songs and others to fit what Jesus would approve or believe we should say. It took until 1982 that I heard Keith Green's music, Phil Keaggy, Amy Grant, etc. to realize my dream of Christian Rock music had come to fruition. I played solo with my neighbors burnt neck Martin Guitar(From someone knocking it into a fire on a beach) at my church small groups. And at friends houses. I still play guitar and also drums for the past 17 years after giving up on them in 1970.. I was a good drummer in 1970 but someone ridiculed my playing and I gave up on it until 2006. Don't let anyone turn your head around like the song says, unless it's bringing you to Jesus.

I purchased "Awaiting Your Reply" hot off the presses in '79, and have been a Rez fan ever since, collecting all the music on many formats ( 8-track, album, cassette, and CD. )
I, too was already a Christ-follower when I discovered the band.
But what the music of Rez did for me, was to tell a young, black high-school kid who loved Jesus and loved hard rock that it was all OKAY.
Aside from my youth group leaders at the time, I'm not sure anyone else "got it." But Resurrection Band sure did.
I've served as a Youth pastor and been able to encourage other young people the way I had been encouraged; by example, by (hopefully) solid teaching, and through listening to the music THEY loved.
I never got to see the band in concert until the "Lament" tour. They were playing in a Christian high school gym.
I actually spoke briefly to Glenn and tried to express my gratitude for all this. He just looked up to the sky and gave credit where it was due.
But what I think I was trying to express, was my gratitude for their DECADES of obedience to the Lord, and how HE used it to encourage me when I really needed it.
Thanks too, for this amazing interview; telling all the stories and putting it all into perspective.
Now, as an old dude, I'm still serving (as a layman). Also, still grateful and STILL JAMMIN' TO THESE TUNES!

Funny, I remember ('79), being a 'babe in Christ'. In our fellowships we had to learn to be careful who we talked to about Rez and believers playing rock music. Fortunately, the 80s came along, and the Rock had his rockers all over the place! 'Time would fail me' to mention all those bands and festivals..

BROKEN PROMISES is the best damned song I have ever heard, sung to, cried to, loved for life! I have played guitar 40 plus years and man, Broken Promises just slays it! Such superior writing, the vocals are so killer! Dude, this song is my all time number one fav, and being 57; I have heard a LOT of songs! Thank you for bringing this sound to my ears and soul! The content and lyrics aside, the musical genius that drives this song is just amazing. I love Rez Band! I'm not religious, but am very spiritual. This sound just resonates with my soul so much. Every one is different but for me this is ultimate!

I can't overstate the impact your music had on me as a 13 year old kid when I heard you for first time around 79/80. Colours was real, raw, and changed my musical life as a Christian. Years later, as a youth pastor, I had the blessing to be able to take a big group of my kids to see you in Kansas City. Thanks for being real all these years. Glenn, you changed my life again with your blues. You always had something bluesy on an album, and I didn't realize how much I liked it until you started releasing blues albums. Thanks to all of you for the countless miles you traveled to show people such an amazing God.

And talking about you being a youth pastor, well I'm about to step in the ministry to be a pastor. I just did not pass my GED so I'm waiting upon the Lord to open the door but he revealed to me why he allowed sin into the WORLD 🌎... Besides the theory of Adam and Eve having a free will choice which is not true at all because God is sovereign meaning the supreme ruler overall HE IS IN TOTAL CONTROL OF EVERYTHING and God allowed Satan to deceive Eve for his own Glory and purpose.

How wonderful to see this interview. My husband David and I loved your music, had every album and spent a week with you guys in Chicago in November of 78. Glen was away at the time , but we had a wonderful time with Stu and Laurel, Roger and Kim and Wendy. My son Tim was celebrating his third birthday while we were there and I had a small party for him Wendy high on sugar sang " I'd go to the moon for a Lorna Dune" and Roger put a lampshade on his head, I still have photos from that time including one your photographer took of us. David is now with the Lord but I still have many wonderful memories of you guys and your anointed music sill plays in my head. How wonderful that in Heaven we will be able to worship the Lord forever and ever together! We had not found the kind of authentic rock amongst CCM. We didn't know your music. You sat with us, you spent time talking and encouraging, you laughed with us, you didn't come over all high and mighty. You rocked, yeah - but you were humble and authentic. That Never Left Us. In an industry with a lot of phonies, I have to say, the Resurrection Band are the real deal. They are the most committed Christians who genuinely love Jesus and truly live out what they say in their music. Thank God for their integrity, which is lacking in most Christian Rock and full of hypocrites. They would probably be the first to tell you they're not perfect, but they never sold out, musically or lyrically, or watered down their message. If "overdoing it" on arcade games or blasting people's eardrums are the worst of their vices, they're okay in my book.

      You wore out the vinyl?
That's what you get for using those cheap, fifty dollar, 70s KMART stereos that were an all-in-one setup, with a turntable, 8-track player and tuner instead of buying a $200 Thorens TD-125 turntable. 😉

    • @ScottWalde
      @ScottWalde Před 6 měsíci +1

@@mbgrafixIt was a '60s console stereo. Definitely pre-8-track. But, yes, a good turntable would probably not have worn them out. 🙂

      @ScottWalde
😄😅 That is hilarious that in making a casual joke, not intended to be literal, I inadvertently came extremely close to accurately revealing the true cause of your album wearing out!
I too had one of those cheap, all-in-one stereos back in the 70s. Back then I did not know that the turntable you use matters not only to the sound quality but also to the care and preservation of your records.
Around 1980 everything changed when my older brother had purchased a high quality turntable as part of high quality stereo system made up of separate components, each from different manufacturers. My music listening experience literally changed overnight!

What a fantastic interview. It brought back so many memories. One such memory was in the early 80s at a Creation Festival in Pennsylvania. Rez played. I had already been a fan and had the first 3 albums. I went to the merch tent and looked at the t-shirts. I asked John Herrin how much they cost. They were more $$ than what I had with me as a 16 year old. So I walked away. John tracked me down and gave me a shirt. I wore it in my high school photo. It's been 40 years and I remember it like it was yesterday. Resurrection Band's music was and still is an important part of my life. Thank you 🙏🏽❤️

"Next year at Jerusalem" is a famous saying. Well, for my friend and I in the mid 80's, we kept talking about "Next year at Cornerstone" (Rez's music festival). Well, in 2008, my friend and I finally made it there - only a few of our favorite bands were there and their performances were held in the small tent. It was still a blast though.

You came to Vancouver BC, Canada in the early 80's. I had The Best of Rez, DMZ & Bootleg on regularly. I sadly missed out on that concert. Your music caught me as a young teen and really helped keep me 'accountable' and on track as a young Christian with very little actual Christian upbringing.
You then revisited a few years later and played in Abbotsford, BC which was much nearer to my home. It was an inspirational thrill! ... Got to meet Glenn as a bonus who was autographing merch (Rez - Lament) in town at the Christian book store 'House of James'. So happy to meet the man who helped keep 'this boy' from making many poor decisions by speaking through the Rez lyrics.

The influence of Rez occurred for me in several places at different times.
Your love for Jesus and ME just blew me away.
My first experience was in meeting Glenn, Wendy, and John Herrin in 1980 during the Colours tour at Schumway Jr.High School in Vancouver, WA.
I think the promoter for that show was Adrian Simila who now has a discipleship ranch near Spokane, WA.
I learned all of the Colours album and practice my bass to it when I need a good workout. The song American Dream REALLY does that for me.
Next was the Rainbow Music Hall in Denver. Co. in 1982 when I was living in nearby Arvada.
I didn't get to talk with anyone but was still touched by what I saw and heard from the stage.
The third was in 1984 at the Masonic Temple in Portland, OR. during the Hostage tour. I put up flyers for that show all over a lot of northern Marion County, even on stop sign posts on country roads.
I was quite the Christian metal for Jesus activist.
The promoter was Joe Schomus of Salem based Battlezone Productions who was also the manager for Saint.
I did security and set up at the show and was one of at least 6 guys who helped carry the light trusses up 3 floors of stairs b/c the trusses were too long for the freight elevator. They were HEAVY but even now at age 65, I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
Glenn graciously agreed to pose for a pic with me and the arm around me and love in his heart was so real. I have always treasured that pic and moment.
I went to Cornerstone 86 with Saint as stage manager with a crew of 2 roadies. Glenn came to see us play and smiled at me indicating he remembered me from 2 years prior in Portland, OR.
I was so impressed with his heart and that of Wendy as she talked with me, Saint lead vocalist Josh Kramer, and Barren Cross guitarist Ray Perris in the "green room" area of the motel the bands were staying at.
Taken as a whole or individually, those experiences had long reaching effect toward loving Jesus, doing some Rez songs and other covers in evangelistic outreach, serving others, and playing bass in worship ministry (over 40 years now).
God is indeed good and I see His fingerprints on all of the things listed above.
He is SO big and His reach is SO far as to bring together people from different parts of the country for brief yet powerful interactions that bear good fruit in years to come.
Thank you Glenn, Wendy, John, Rez, and Grrr Records for being yielded vessels through whom God reaches and touches people's lives.

Love it!!!!! Love Pastor Glenn Kaiser, my fav album is still Awaiting Your Reply - thank you for sharing. May God be glorified by your years of service for Him, and may this only be the beginning of what He is going to do through your obedience and love for Him and for people. Many will never understand - but so many people do, and lives changed and saved for the glory of Christ Jesus.

This was fascinating. Like Wendy said, Musicianaries.
Well I can say Rez saved me from country music lol. I was in early teens in '82 and had recently yielded to Christ. Burning your old secular records was the thing to do at the time, so my heavy music went into the burning barrel on the farm. I played my Dads old-school country albums as a substitute. I tried, oh how I tried ! Mother had some Kieth Green. Which was/is good. But one day I went along with my Mom to a local Christian bookstore. The owner was open to variety and suggested the DMZ album. He plays it for me out open in the store. Raised some customer eyebrows. But Woohoo ! We have heavy tunes again. I still have that album and others. But what pointed, convicting lyrics I must say. A bit like Keith Green that way.
Finally got to see Rez in '85 in Detroit. State theatre, I think. The show was everything I already expected. But what impressed me was after the show. The band didn't disappear. They hung out in the open and invited people to talk to them about anything. What an opportunity for them to witness to the lost.

Joyfully spoken. Reminded of what Dana Key used to say when strumming an acoustic guitar: 'What kind of music can you make with a guitar that has a hole in it? Cowboy music. We tried country, but no one could recognize what country it was from, so we gave up.' lol

Fascinating. This band (& Cornerstone magazine) had a huge impact on my early Christian life. Still remember when that first album came out & I finally had something heavy to listen to. I loved the music of Larry Norman & Second Chapter of Acts too, but they weren't quite hard enough for me.
I'm STILL buying their music. Girder Music has been releasing limited editions on vinyl - & my old records are plain worn out.

They invaded my life in 1979. I was prolly about a week old in the Lord, was taken to see them. As the song sez, Amazing! Rockin hard, Jesus all over the lyrics. And Wendy.. my first thot: like Robert Plant, but better! They're done playing and the man starts preaching...hard, but not unkind. Like you could tell he cared about us, our souls, our eternal destiny, man! Great people.. and the world, and the body of Christ, are all the better for them. Well done, yall'! 😎

  • @ricadrew

There were some great Christian bands back in the day, but I can honestly say, listening to these guys and Keaggy always inspired me when I was down.
And I can't tell you how many non Christians I knew who sat their wide eye when I would play them.
I can truthfully say that a few of those people eventually came to the Lord just from me pooping in a CD of those two artists and others, but mainly those two.
Thank you Lord for allowing your word to be spread in the only language people like me understood at the time.
It's sad there are people who say it's satanic music.
Well last I checked, the devil isn't capable of creating anything.
The Lord God is the only true creator.

Let me say first of all, I'm a fan. I have all their albums, I have seen them many times, and to this day, I use a form of one of their songs in most of my passwords. But, all these decades later, I look back at the sermons Glen always gave at the end of the show, and I wonder why he was so mad at us. They were very generalized and mentioned no one specific who was guilty of the things he was condemning.
