    And conversly, Djoker on Safin- Says the ambitious Serb: "Well, Marat is, in my opinion, maybe the most talented player in the world. I think for him - this might sound a little bit harsh - but for him tennis is like a toy, because when it's interesting for him, no one in the world can beat him. But then when it's not interesting for him, he just doesn't show his talent or his tennis the way he can play." True that.

      @@jajasatorashi136 idk man go google it... but whatever he said, makes perfect sense.
      Safin was semi-retired in 2008 and eliminated the world no.3 at Wimbledon. Simply because he decided to play that match as he knows he can (when he is motivated to). It's typical of hyper-talented players, they have difficulty finding motivation because everything is so easy for them.
      It's the same case as Nalbandian, for example. Nalbandian's biggest enemy on the court was himself. But sometimes he would come across one of the top5 in a tournament and, in that specific match, you see him showing all his talent, which was dormant. He did this on several occasions. I remember Paris 2008 Nalbandian was very out of shape, overweight, unranked, and toy with Murray who was the top seed at that tournament, coming as the runner-up of the US Open a few weeks ago.
      The previous year he had already done this eliminating the big3 in the same tournament to be champion in Madrid and Paris with a 6x1 - 6x2 over Nadal and then 6x3 - 6x0 over Nadal again, in the final, in less than 50 minutes. Nadal had already been a solid world no.2 for about three years at that time. Nalbandian wasn't even top twenty.
      There are very few players like Safin and Nalbandian.
      You will rarely see a player eliminate Djokovic or Nadal in a tournament, unless they play poorly. And even then it will never be with a 6x2 - 6x0... or in straight sets in a grand slam. This simply doesn't happen. Safin and Nalbandian were very particular cases.

      @Thijs-Kuiken Před 6 měsíci +2

      perhaps he was a fast learner but it's also safe to say that a pro tennis player - especially a successful one - moves around a lot internationally..tournament to tournament.. flying, checking in hotels etc etc; it was obviously in his interest then to be able to speak the lingua franca that English happens to be internationally.
      It's not like he comes from a poor family who lived in the country side where he stayed till he was 20 only having developed his tennis skills.

      vlada379 This was interview after beating Novak Djokovic in Wimbledon-2008, not in AO 2005. At this time Novak already won AO 2008. Yes, Djokovic did not played very well against Marat, but do not forget, that Marat in 2008 was already over the hill - much slower than in best years. Of course, Djokovic is much more stable, but I suppose, if Djokovic would meet with Marat in top of shape, this would be a really TOUGH match for Nole. Let`s be honest, Marat did not had health and character of great champion, like Sampras, Federer, Djokovic, therefore so humble achievements, but he had a TALENT of great champion. I think, Safin in his prime could defeat Nadal and Djokovic. Safin in his prime was as good as del Potro in his prime, maybe even better. But it is useless to argue - Marat retired with only 2 GS, Djokovic still play and win one GS after oher...

      Robert Bressan Same is today, we have a lot of talent, but exactly tennis is a sport that shows to us that talent is no longer the only thing that is needed to become a top player.
      Mofis, Dimitrov, Raonic has a lot of talent far more than, for example Varvinka but Varvinka with their 31 year is a far better player than any of them.
      Today it is much more important to be smart, intelligent player and pure talent today not so important.
