I discovered her music through Brokenwood Mysteries. It’s a great mystery show set in New Zealand.
At first I didn’t care for the music because it didn’t sound “country”. The more shows I watched I realized she is a mix of the Blues , Jazz, and Country. Her lyrics are earthy and remind me of other older singers from the 1950’s and 60’s. I like her voice and Lyrics. It’s an unusual mix. I wonder if she writes her own songs? Without the television show I probably would never have discovered her music.

This has 1950's American all over it - but it's Tami of New Zealand and her band. Outrageous. And very, very good.
Think she's American, now resident in NZ. Great to see this style of music getting a reawakening for a new generation.

Saw Tami in Peterborough open for Colin James last week - Dynamite is a very appropriate title for her album! Incredible voice - her rendition of Otis Rush's "Reap what you sow" was breathtaking!

Right from the get go, it's the magical song writing collaboration of Tami Neilson & Jay Neilson, it's the unique and very bluesy recording of the song, the video format of black & white, the male trio back up singing, the depth of field between the band and Tami, Tami's body language and style and of course her amazing vocal delivery, which is the driving force that lifts this song to a whole new dynamic level. Rightly positioned and deserves first place on the brand new released LP 'DYNAMITE'. Put all these elements together and you've got not only a great song, you have a very soulful moving work of art. Absolutely compelling to watch over and over. So proud, so very proud.

Very groovy song. I was feeling pretty lost as to why i couldnt place this song and why i didnt know the lyrics. As its the type song my dad and i would do during thunderstorms sitting on the front porch when i was a kid. Like many folks it seems brokenwood lead me here. It was a wonderful change in what is proving to be the worlds largest collection of horrible country music. Im new to the show but not music. Ive heard cats screwing that has more rhythm than nearly every song ive heard up to the episode this song was in. Im a fan now providing her other songs are like this.
