He even spoke for and protected his wife like a real man should do. As a non-american, I admire his honesty and courage. He really did not have to do this. He could have just joked Hillary normally and finished this dinner quickly without pissing off all the elites. But he did it while everything was showing a loss at that moment. It is clear-cut. You can't be pardoned if you haven't been convicted of a crime.
And the election won't be done until we vote. Nothing changes that. But it is looking pretty one-sided at this point.
And sometimes it's better not to directly address an accusation, because doing so lends it some credibility it might not have otherwise had.
But things are *never* clear cut because the general public doesn't have all the facts - and this is part of why relatively minor issues frequently get more attention than policy issues. Like Trump sniffing at the debates: Honestly, it's a ridiculously trivial, meaningless detail, but it catches people's attention, it's something they can latch on to even if they don't have strong opinions about international affairs or economic policies.
