Here in the UK we use a brilliant system which is half metric and half imperial. So, for example the 15mm compression fitting commonly used in plumbing has a 1/2inch BSP thread. Although even then the thread is not actually 1/2inch in size. Oh no, that would be too obvious.
We combine the worst of metric and imperial with the added complication of having to continue catering for both.
That's why we don't have factories anymore - it just got too complicated and so we gave up.

    • @bogusmogus9551

We used to buy our dog’s food at a small store in our town. They also sold homeopathic medicines for dogs. One day, a girl there tried to sell me some of this medicine for my dog. I told her that I don’t believe in homeopathy. She said “You probably shouldn’t buy it, then. If you don’t believe in it, it won’t work.” I wish I was lying, but I swear on my life that’s what she said. If that doesn’t disprove homeopathy, I don’t know what will.

I don't know where he gets this thing about metric/imperial for the Hubble. That is not where Hubble's problems came from.
There was a probe in which metric/imperial seems to have contributed to the probe being lost.
Hubble's problems arose from a screw up on the calibration methods, and these methods did not involve an error on metric/imperial. The error arose because a calibration rod was prepared in a manner that confused the calibration process. When they were supposed to be on the end of the rod they were on the end cap by mistake.

Pretty much. While the eye takes in all light like a camera lens, but the brain simply discards whatever it deems unimportant. That's why if you experience something, and watch a recording you made of it...your memory is never going to exactly line up. The brain is filtering images, trying to process it as quickly as it can to react to it. It's pretty interesting what is thrown out.

You can't outlaw it and make it go away, you can only continue to do what Randi has done, and he does a great job of it.

I'm simply curious as to your train of thought. You have now said that you did not mean "not natural = bad," yet the "but" does not mean absolutely nothing, so what do you mean by adding in that additional information to "I have no opposition to it."? It seems entirely irrelevant.

A weed plant is natural, its the same process of growing one's own food and then eating it, except they are growing it to smoke it, both have the same process and both give effect to the body. So you would be saying that growing food and eating it is not natural. Also the smoke that comes from a weed plant is not the same as smoke from a fire in a house, i'm sure you knew that. Also to get the effect of weed you do not have to smoke it you can eat it as well and still get the effect.

Weed can grow naturally but the good weed we smoke doesn't just grow naturally. Eating food is necessary, getting high isn't. Also, cocaine grows naturally, do you advocate it's use? Probably not. Desiring to inhibit brain function isn't natural. Doesn't make it bad, just unnatural.

A very fundamental tenet of science is that even new discoveries have to be compatible with earlier findings and build on them. Einsteinian physics matches Newtonian physics in everyday life to extremely high accuracy. Thus, we can be quite certain that things like homeopathy are not going to suddenly be found to be "science" - they are merely pre-scientific (magical) ideas elevated to almost the level of religion.
And are you sure you don't sound like a loony when you use the word "minions"?

I do make stipends, with my taxes, the only problem is that I have to pay for these failures of public school systems instead of choosing well ran private schools.
Religious people have the monopoly on private schools because they do so much 'charity' through churches.
With a voucher system we could get some secular schools going knowing that 90% of parents want the best for their children, even the ignorant ones will know which are the good schools because they will become popular.
