As an asian american, i didnt mind the lack of asian representation on SNL until bowen yang joined the cast. now, im always so excited and proud when he shows up in a sketch
I'm not Asian and I'm not even American, but I love that he's part of SNL and hope in the future they will hire more Asian cast members.
I'm black and think Bowen is the best thing that happened to SNL in years. He's my favorite now.

I genuinely do not care what anyones race is at all as long as they're funny. Something Don't like however, is when race representation becomes more important than laughs on a comedy show. I'm not saying snl has done this for asians in any way, but as many funny asian comedians I come across, it does seem a little odd that there's only been Rob Schneider and now Bowen Yang. Obviously, he did madtv for quite some time, but I would've LOVED to see Bobby Lee on here at some point.
His welcome to the cast has definitely changed the vibe of the show and in a good way

People who point out how ridiculous it is to like someone just because they're the same race as you clearly don't understand how it feels to be an underrepresented minority. As an Asian person, seeing Bowen Yang on SNL (or Sandra Oh anywhere) really makes me feel some type of way.

Not since Kristen Wiig do I ever remember seeing a featured player move up in the SNL ranks so fast. And so much deserved. He’s hilarious. Every sketch my eyes go and stay focused on him. A true comedy gem.

Makes sense that the soul cycle instructor was his idea, I loved that sketch and all the characters but the “I googled racism and that bummed me out” line killed me

@@Ilikebernie Yes to Mikey Day and Beck Bennett. But Kyle Mooney and Leslie Jones... they provided fewer laughs than expected. I think Bowen's been a fantastic add and is genuinely funny. No need to downplay his achievements.

@@YourHighwayInTheSky so far he's played a member of Chinese government and Andrew Yang which are both specifically Chinese/Asian roles. But I agree, he has also been in a few other skits without that connotation. He's just starting out so ofc they're going to use him for some of the more obvious roles until he's established himself enough as a cast member to be in all the regular skits
Drew・ドリュー the point of some characters on SNL is how there personality is consistent throughout each role-take pete davidson or leslie jones for example. i think that’s what they might be going for with bowen

I was in then dress rehearsal audience for the Sandra Oh episode, and we were all in awe of the intricacies of the show that we could actually see. It’s so interesting to hear Bowen’s behind-the-scene perspective on the bits that we couldn’t!

He's SO good on SNL, has already become one of my favorites on the show. I feel he can become as big as Bill Hader or Kristen Wiig. He always steals the skit even when he only has a line or two.
He's only been given secondary supporting roles and no characters that could have a reoccuring future. And every thing so far is stereotypical and only lets him play basically the same character in every sketch. Wasted opportunity so far

The Titanic sketch is OSCAR worthy. It was the 1st time I saw him and it was on CZcams. I started laughing as soon as he came onscreen.."this is gonna be LIT!" and boy was I right! I laughed so hard I got hiccups. All cast members are great, and I've watched skits over and over, but this one has me screaming!!!

This video was recommended to me after seeing Kelly Marie Tran on The Daily Show and I gotta say in my entire lifetime there has never been this many Asian Americans in entertainment and it's so exciting and a long time coming.
