YES!!! i was a massive fan of kpop 2nd gen but i stopped listening because i didnt like the sound of this and last gen when it all became loud 'boisterous'(like you say spot on) and kind of angry.. most of it sounded like blackpink and i didnt like it... i randomly heard supershy on a youtube short or something and i instantly loved the sound.. its very reminiscent of early 2000s mainstream uk dance music in particular soulful house and garage (i grew up listening to it) newjeans essentially brought me back to kpop.. you say its a soft sound.. i get what you mean because the vocals are floaty and airy.. there no shouting or stupid 'BADABOOMBADABOOM' nonsense lol... BUT i would disagree that the sound is soft because although the vocals and melodies are soft they are pretty much always accompanied by super fast synths and offbeat drum patterns that are more dance music orientated
