I met her in Phoenix, AZ sometime back during the 90s--A good friend of mine, his mother and myself went to see a Donovan concert at a place called The Celebrity Theatre, a closed-in venue that brings you close to your favorite artists--Judy opened for him and she did a wonderful job, especially with "Send In The Clowns"...Trust me that there wasn't a dry eye in the house that night!--Also Donovan did a song request for me as well so we were truly blessed...
I think it might come from the 1993 The Best of Judy Collins. Excellent ! Great thanks ! It reminds me of the other great song sung by Pete Seeger "From way up here".
I agree. I love Judy Collins; often she interprets songs that make you see them in a new way (Yeats Song of Wandering Aengus, as a prime example). The lyrics to this song can sound sappy without the passion of a Midler or the pathos of a Griffin.
This version is lifeless & sappy. Midler's & Griffin's version have power & pathos. If you think power & pathos are "campy", then you've got a huge hole in your soul.
beautiful. I don't want to seem contentious, but while Judy and Bette do fine jobs, a little unknown voice named Nanci Griffith puts more into this song that any. sorry guys.
I still prefer listening to Nancy Griffiths singing this song, even over Bette Midler.Something about the way that she sings it just comes off much better.
I agree Judy does it best though the song itself is kind of sappy AND campy. Judy pumps up the emotion with those high note that the other 2 singer will never reach.

Every so often an angel comes to earth - Judy is one of them.
Judy has a great singing voice. Her rendition of From A Distance is outstanding.

A voice that could shatter crystal.
IMHO she gifts every song she sings best~
Very moving! I like the song very much and even more in Judy Collins version. I wish to meet her one day. God bless her.
It's the voice of a lady. I have a photo signed by Judy in a sealed box - my heart. Love her since've remember myself.
Beautiful Judy flawless.
She's an angel.
Thanks for this video. It is amazing what a singer can do interpreting a song. I loved it , Art
keep singing Lady.

This is from a PBS special. I believe it was from Lincoln Center in New York. I would guess it was late 80's/early 90's
My exact opinion.
This s a great version if you like it check out Nanci Griffith's version and some of the other Nanci songs are great to hear, ty HIGH!!!!!!!!!!!

I love Judy Collins and her voice... but I'll say that I prefer the composer's rendition on one of the Four Bitchin' Babes albums...

Excellent!! She has a nice style but I prefer Bette Middler doing this probably for the big sounding arrangement.

Judy's version is far superior to the campy Griffith version.
Nonsense. This version is not campy like the other two.
bette can't sing live. bette has sung at least 20 songs AFTER judy recorded them, so she must not be too bored
