You could remove half the cuts in this scene, and not only would it change nothing that's being told, but it would look better with the rest of the movie which is known for it's long sweeping shots so have sporatic cuts during talking scenes makes no sense. It's not even Shot-Reverse-Shot cuts, it just cuts to random footage like some amateaur.
I love how one cut is just dedicated to him pulling a chair out from the table, like pulling the chair is vital info to the audience that needs to be addressed or else the whole scene is off.

The two go hand in hand. The reason the editing looks so poor is because the direction is spotty, and they didn't get to go back to do reshoots. Notice how there isn't a single shot of the entire band in one frame once John sits down? The editor had to stitch together a bunch of singular shots to show all of their reactions, because they didn't shoot any wides.

AD The Kid It’s interesting how differently Reid is portrayed in the two films. He’s very handsome and sexually powerful in Rocketman... less so in this. If the depictions had been more similar, it would have made them seem more reliable. That said, two people can perceive a person very differently.
Rocketman is about Elton's mind. He saw John Reid as a jerk, because their relationship didn't work out. Just like he saw his father as some cold blooded monster, which he wasn't.
Black Parade read his auto biography John wasn’t as bad but it highlighted the events of Eltons life very well and John Reid definitely cheated on him and hit him a lot

Obviously there are times when you might purposefully break the rule but that's usually when you want the audience to feel disoriented. Idk why you would want your audience to feel disoriented in this scene at all.
Jack Brodke ..yes but there’s not really a possible way to keep a 180 degree rule in a 5 person dialogue scene where they’re sitting in a circle. you break it on scenes with multiple people dialogue so that you can have close ups on each group member. Find me a 4-5 person dialogue scene where they’re sitting in a circle, one close up on each member, and the 180 rule isn’t broken. lol

The camera can only stay on one side of that line because as soon as you cross it the direction everyone is looking flips and it becomes extremely disorienting for an audience to watch. If you physically move the camera to the other side of the line though it's okay. You just can't cut to the other side when your previous shot was on a certain side of the 180 line. Hope that makes sense.

The latter, whenever one character in the Command Center started talking to Zordon, it was all ADR and the camera would show us a totally different ranger reacting. The blocking and cinematography also did this scene no favors.
