- When the Team Associated MT8 was released, there was a big issue with the plastics. I've managed to sort some of that... but is it too late? Me and my Son took the Team Associated MT8 & MT10 to the Skate park. Which lasted the longest? I'm Using $12 Redcat Kaiju EXT Arms on the MT8. Full Send!

That "final send" was a glorious jump! Smooth as glass.
I know this is a late comment but i believe the upper arm breakage is caused by the fact that the only thing limiting suspension travel is the diff cup on the differential and the upper arm this causes some what of a binding issue where under full suspension compression the dog bone will touch the inner diff cup and the upper arm takes the brunt of that force causing it to snap the metal turn buckle piece right at the base of the plastic upper arm piece where the arm attaches to the diff case. Here in the states we have the redcat kaiju which suffers from the same issue, the arms are compatible between the 2 trucks as seen in this video and although slightly stronger the redcat ares are still prone to break for a more permanent fix cutting a piece of nitro fuel line and slipping it on the base of the shock shaft as a suspension limiter seems to eliminate the binding issue. As for the lower arm rpm now offers lower arms for this truck I am currently in the process of testing fitment of the rpm arms on a redcat kaiju. Know its a long comment but hope this clarifies the issue.
Mt8 turnbuckle recommendation:
Get a set of 5mm arrma exb turnbuckles. They're dramatically stronger and they won't pull out the threads like yours did.
You'll 2 sets of 5×50mm for the upper camber links.
One set of 5x65mm for the steering.
One 4.5mm drill bit.
Carefully bore the holes with the 4.5 bit, install arrma links and you'll never bend, break or pull the threads out of one ever again.

Nice to see them launching together. Was so surprised how fragile the 8 came stock to the 10. Night and day. Good to see it a little more robust.

I bought our MT10 on your and Heavy Metal RC's recommendations. Of course I preordered the MT8. So far the only failures I've had were from my own stupid mistakes. My toddler has a better track record than I. The RPM control arms and titanium turnbuckles seem to have done the trick for mine. Absolutely love it! 4s is all we'll run it on. Thanks for continued excellent content!
Nice bit of info there. That'll help MT8 owners out no end! My mates got the 10 and it's a tank, broke two of my trucks in one outing once through collisions! 😅

Brought an MT10 over a year ago thanks to your recommendation, it's my go to basher for sure. I have only broken one front A-arm thanks to a stealthy tree root, decided to replace all arms with RPM and it's just ridiculous how tough it is, It's done skateparks, triple backflips onto its roof and sides and it just takes it! The body hasn't though, it's mostly held together with Gorrila tape now XD
Also it's the pefect size for carrying on my back using a skatepack so when i'm mountain biking I can take it with me for some extra fun on the trails.
I’ve broken my MT10 multiple times… but then again, we’ve all seen my driving skills so it’s no real surprise…
Man I’ve really been in love with that MT8. But seeing how easy it broke, when all the great RC CZcams channels like yours, Phil, review them, I’d gotten past the urge to buy one. And got the Arrma Granite 3s 4x4 instead. Saved a few bucks and man the granite is awesome! Zero buyers remorse there. That thing is my little wheelie machine! 🤩 But, seeing you bring the MT8 back to life with some stronger parts, really has me thinking I should add it to my list from Santa 🎅🏼 this year 😂 Great video. And sorry man, I think your son may have outperformed you on those landings with the MT10. 😂 But that last landing you had with the MT8, took the trophy 🏆🤘🏼 That was some great bashing by both of you.
RC car jumping videos are always fun to watch.
If you look at the second half of the video, it seemed like you could fly to the basketball hoop if you had a little more power.

Good video. Nice to see the ode MT8 getting some love. Drives really well - and a brilliant hobby truck because of the wrenching involved upgrading it.
Glad to see the MT8 back! The softer/more flexible arms from the Kaiju definitely make it more durable and enjoyable. Not sure how much precision is lost with the more bendy arms, but it is a basher, not a racer after all. Great video as always.

Never had a "proper" rc car before. It's because of your videos that I bought a wl toys and a decent balance charger last October. I've only recently got everything needed to actually use the thing because these cheaper alternatives have terrible shipping! But... I used it for the first time yesterday, and honestly I'm so grateful for the reviews you and a few others do on affordable rc. Might save up for another!

Yeah, this is what I did with my MT8. I put out a few videos on it as well. I had high hopes for it. But my Kaiju is just better
Made the same upgrades to my MT8 along with Kaiju aluminum hub carriers and spindles. Runs like a total champ and is very durable now. I got mine used but in mint condition at a good price, so what I saved on retail went towards the upgrades. It's a great truck if you're willing to put in some work. That being said, it should have been less problematic out the box for the price you pay.
Also, RPM makes Arms for the MT8 now if anybody wants to go that route for an upgrade. I'm super happy with my Kaiju Arms. Front and back cost me about $13 total before tax and shipping. RPM Arms are about $35 for the front and back set before tax and shipping. Cheers! 🍻
I said on another channel, (ahem, Talbot), that putting plastic parts into a large pan of cold water then gently heating the parts up, (but don't boil them as they might deform), and then letting them cool gradually with the water stress relieves the plastic from the moulding process.
It certainly used to work on plastics used in RC cars I raced in the 1990s. I used to break hubs & suspension arms until I started using this trick.

It was great see you two having so much fun. You made improvements in the MTA8. May be new plastic will help. I have also heard other CZcamsrs talking about the bigger tires and the rotating mass being a source of more breakage on some of the bigger trucks.. What's you opinion?

Bought the MT10 for myself for Xmas to get back into RC after 20 years, since having my nitros back then. Not had a chance to take it out yet as been so busy, but will very soon. Looking forward to it. Already looking at having a 2nd vehicle lol, might get the Rokatan Black edition. Looks fun after watching your vids and love the Mad Max vibes. Also like the look of the DR8 lol.

I"ve been subscribed here for a few months, great content. I think this video popped up for me after i have been looking at the mt8 on various sites. It seems to be cheaper than the mt10 and is about £289 currently. That seems cheap so i looked up the kaiju arms.... out of stock everywhere. That leaves the rpm arms. Those, plus the arrma 5mm turnbuckles mentioned in another comment and alloy kaiju hub carriers totals £425 (before battery and charger) That seems very tempting but... is it? I'm assuming the big discounting of the car means it's end of line? New version coming or spares soon to dry up? I'm hesitant.
Those plastics is what's been holding this truck back. Great family run👍

Yes the MT10 is awesome. Now that was fun to watch.
Big durability improvement, the piston mod will help even further you can still see it bounces too much when it lands rather than absorb the landings
Pretty fair assessment I think Phil. I'm not a physics talking guy but I think the weight and proportions don't work out quite as well durability wise when they go up in scale. It's like the 6s Kraton compared to the 8s. The 6s seems (from what I've seen) to have fair durability while the 8s not so much.

Yes, made it nicer to drive knowing I could send it a little harder. My lad lives a few hrs away, but we certainly had fun. He got the hang of the MT10 quite quickly

Nice bash, I really enjoyed the video. It looked like the mt8 was a bit bouncy on the landings. Maybe a thicker shock fluid could fix that?

I"m wondering if the issue isn't the type of plastics, it's the fact that at the larger scale, they used the same plastics as the MT10 but it just can't handle the added weight. Probably it can take the weight and impact of the 10 but the 8 is over it's limit.
Kind of like a manufacturer using the same suspension on a 1 ton pickup as you did on a 1/2 ton.
with the stuff you guys do, there has to be a certain level of expectation that things are going to break. this is equal to jumping a 1:1 vehicle 20m+ into the air. the fact that these vehicles hold up to this abuse is a miracle within itself.
I agree, and I generally will say if something is not as good as it should be. The original arms on this would break with only a small bad landing... so well below expectations for this kind of truck.
@@TomleyRC that does suck and I can tell you while I don’t “bash” my MT10 has been flawless with the only issue being the mounting pad on the extremely expensive optional blue aluminum dampers. Glad the MT8 comes with these out of the box.

Had to give up on mine after I fitted the rpm arms the bell crank went then the hubs didn’t see the point in chucking any more money at it even tho I loved the my-10

Wd40 the kaiju arms overnight blow off the rest.I never broke after. I also thought rpm has made arms i think. Lunsford titanium or arrma turnbuckles for uppers. Will make u love it. Also redcat makes Aluminum hubs if they are the same

Jesus christ the MT10 took an absolute beating.. looks like it wasn't even RPM armified. The MT8 did decently I'd say as well!

I bought my my mt8 a year ago broke the stock arms put the red cat arms on and I got longer life out of them and there cheaper than mt8 arms👍

How do these things not break.. I broke the front lower suspension arm for my megae XB10 9~years ago the week I got it and stumbled upon it today while cleaning but can't find a replacement for the part :(

RPM makes a-arms for the team associated MT-8 and the come in blue so looks great too,bee running em all winter here on the Oregon coast with no breaks at all and on 6s🤙🏻

My issue with the mt10 is that its n9t really a new truck it qas a re release of a previous manufacturer. So it gets me a bit worried
Which turnbuckles did you use, the Associated or the RedCat? The A-arms are a good example of why the aluminum BLING parts aren't a good choice. They have no flex.

You got lots of models can you check If hub set from another 1 8 alloy model would fit mt8 don't need fit perfectly as I don't really fancy paying redcat
the 10th scale Maxx breaks the upper A-Arms so easy I bet you they did the same thing Traxxas did and they are using definitely cheaper plastic
I think a lot of manufacturers are using lesser quality plastic from what I've seen
