I remember growing up in the 90s, she was brave enough to be herself, be creative and evolve her music. Because she was being different the media/chart/music shows would completely ridicule her a LOT. When you listen to a bjork song, you honestly couldn’t tell if it was released in the 90s or right now….that’s how far ahead she was with her music. She put her critics to shame.
I had a friend show me her videos about 6 months ago and I keep coming back to listen to her. He had thought and told me this music came out within the last few years and I believed him too. We literally thought this was new stuff. Both of us are very avid music enthusiasts too, I listen to all kinds of music.
Really? I grew in the same era and although I seem to remember people thought she was brilliant even back then. The gossip media certainly had a field day with her, but when it comes to music I feel like Bjork has always been thought of as incredibly influential and ahead of her time. Madonna wanted to work with her. Peter Jackson wanted her to sing the end theme to the second Lord of the Rings movie. She wasn't languishing in obscurity waiting to be appreciated 30 years later, that's for sure.
I grew up in the 90's an everydbody was absolutely IN LOVE with Bjork, she was litteraly one of the most admired artist at the time, this song in particular was everywhere. So we propbably lived in different countries :)

Omg same! I gave Bjork's discography a chance this year because her albums' covers are so interesting. I used to listened only to "Army of Me", "I Miss You" and "Venus as a Boy" but after listening her albums entirely one by one I just got obsessed

The funny thing about this song is it's arguably her song with the greatest lyrics, and it's also the song that she had someone else write the lyrics for haha.
Nathan Aaron I'd have a hard time arguing it to be her best written piece. Hyperballad being much better written and pagan poetry being a far more beautiful atmosphere. Great song but I wouldn't go as far as to say best.

The video is actually extremely dark on an apocalyptic level. When the publisher falls out of love, all books are unwritten and all people and buildings get devoured by the bushes and the trees. The city turns into a forest with the empty book buried deep inside the ground, until she finds it again while digging and everything repeats itself in an infinite loop.

Is it a film? I’m a producer and composer but I am also a ufo researcher and communicator. Would you like to attend a real ufo sighting it might inspire you the way it has me but regardless the levels in your music are incredible and continue to inspire my choices occasionally in very cool ways . I have a sequel to my documentary “Curse of the man who sees ufos “ that just finished a two year run on Netflix. Called “the man who sees ufos “ coming soon ! The Muzik in that film is totally composed on mobile iOS computing and instruments as well as hardware synth design and found objects etc. also your music gives me focus in moments that I need that. I don’t know why but it just happens. Peace and many thanks Christo and Mr Gino 👽🐕☮️🛸🎶💀😉🙏✌️
This is such a powerful song. It really makes so feel like the fate of the fucking earth depend on this relationship. Few artists are good enough the provoke emotions like this❤️
I ve seen her a few times live. But the show at pukkelpop was so good i will never forget it. My brother was standing next to me and he said :’how lucky are we to be here’ - he was right. And indeed, some crowd walked out while the show was on. But it s just people that don t understand it. It was one of the best things i ever saw, next to Prince.
@@siriusblack8786you act as an ignorant person. First, there is much 'artsy' metal music, especially in its progressive/avant-guarde/exptreme subgenres. Check out maudlin of the well, for example. Metal is not just Metallica, you know? Second, Bjork is not that experimental/avant-guarde. It's more like creative art pop. Her music videos were on MTV, come on. If something is on MTV, it's not avant-guarde. You'll never hear experimental metal music on MTV. I guess that's why you don't know much about metal.
I think the comments don't praise enough the song itself. This is a real epic timeless masterpiece here, and one of my favourite songs ever. This is so theatrical, and the composition is really unique and ahead of its time. Björk's vocals are ridiculously awesome and very emotional, she's really an amazing artist.
Hi, I really love this song. Even when I didn't know lyrics (English isn't my first language). And now that I've read the lyrics, I still don't fully understand its meaning Could you tell me your interpretation of the lyrics of this song? I would appreciate it very much
@@elizabethstre1686 Hi, I must admit I'm not really sure of its meaning as the lyrics are quite mysterious and English is also not my first language, but here is my interpretation : First, this song is the sequel to the song Isobel, which is on the album Post ( which is itself the sequel to Human Behaviour I think ), and who narrates the adventures of a girl named Isobel, born in an isolated forest. She lives alone until a big city emerges and she discovers a New life. I think then that the title " Bachelorette " refers to the loneliness of Isobel before going to the city. So, in " Bachelorette ", Isobel arrives to the city ( that's why the instrumentation sounds like a train ) and discovers a whole new world. She's really excited ( that's why she says " I'm a fountain of blood in the shape of a girl " ) because she discovers new sides of herself, like her sexuality. I think this song is an expression of everything Isobel feels in the city, she's " hypnotized by the whirl ", as she said in the song. At the end of the song, I think she probably returns to the forest, that's why we hear an accordion, and the sequel to this song is " Alarm Call ", where we can see in the video Isobel back in the forest, testing her boundaries and limits after her experience in the city. I think the story of Isobel is related to Björk, who was born in Iceland but then moved to London and discovered a new world. That remains my own intepretation, as I think many interpretations are possible, I hope it will be useful to you :)
@@poesie_paienne Thank you so much for taking time to answer. That was very useful and informative. Now I know what songs I'll listen un order to make my own interpretation . Thanks and have a good day 😁
This is the first time ive heard this song (i dont get out much) and its f-g brilliant. God i love Bjork. I bought her records in the 90's but she scares me a bit. Every time i see her and listen to her voice at the same time i get this weird feeling in my heart like a jump or a squeeze. Its weird. She is fascinating to me but i dont know why. i totally understand how crazy people can obsess about her. Anyway i dont like feeling crazy/weird so i dont watch alot of her videos but im glad youtube sent me here to watch this. Great song. Thankyou Bjork you living legend and slightly supernatural deity.
It's funny i can see how she would intimidate guys. As a girl she spoke to my inner self. I could always find lyrics that i could relate to. I can see though as a man, looking from the outside at this beautiful fiery creature how they could be intimidated. To me it was empowering.
@@abandonedmuse Yes i see that, i dont feel intimidated as such (intimidate seems like a favourite word from the tv nowadays though) but she scares me because she makes me feel a bit crazy. i like her too much and in a way that i dont like any other celeb. i could easily obsess over her. I think she is the most powerful woman in entertainment in some ways and i can only describe her as slightly supernatural. A beautiful fiery creature is a good description, I sometimes like playing with fire but its always a mistake.
@@abandonedmuse yes but i dont know the details, and dont want to know, but i think thats the thing about her, she is so incredible its easy to go crazy over her. My original comment was meant to marvel at her and at her slightly super human qualities but i dont want to start a conversation about mental people and weirdness. I just wonder what is it that makes her so special. Its not really her looks or just her voice, it must be something else.
@@alexc6324 yeah her creativity. And I mentioned it because guys get creepy like that and it freaks me out. Good to know you aren’t that wild. Yeah she is definitely a beautiful spark in this otherwise extremely insane and dark world.

A work of art. 👍 Tells the story in just a few minutes as if it were an entire film. There is a metaphysical intelligence spread in every minimal detail of the image. A beauty of rare charm! /... The music sounds, curiously, a bit like certain theme songs from 1970s crime dramas... 💙
What wonderful visual storytelling, about visual storytelling! Russian dolls & storytelling genius. Absolutely love this. I've adored the song for a long time, now I adore the video too. Awesome.

She really is!
@@pegasuskukl i think it's the same, isn't it?
The video version seems to be the same as the album, but there is a radio edit on the singles that cuts the song in half - yuck!!
Great Artis and terrific woman 💓
This is such a powerful song. It really makes so feel like the fate of the fucking earth depend on this relationship. Few artists are good enough the provoke emotions like this❤️
I ve seen her a few times live. But the show at pukkelpop was so good i will never forget it. My brother was standing next to me and he said :’how lucky are we to be here’ - he was right. And indeed, some crowd walked out while the show was on. But it s just people that don t understand it. It was one of the best things i ever saw, next to Prince.
I am a metalhead, but this is absolute art
Metaltards try not to tell everyone they are metaltards challenge difficulty: IMPOSSIBLE 🤯
maybe because experimental / avant-garde music is more artsy than metal music..?
As a former metalhead, I can confirm.
And now that I've read the lyrics, I still don't fully understand its meaning
Could you tell me your interpretation of the lyrics of this song?
I would appreciate it very much
@@elizabethstre1686 Hi, I must admit I'm not really sure of its meaning as the lyrics are quite mysterious and English is also not my first language, but here is my interpretation :
First, this song is the sequel to the song Isobel, which is on the album Post ( which is itself the sequel to Human Behaviour I think ), and who narrates the adventures of a girl named Isobel, born in an isolated forest.
Thanks and have a good day 😁
@@elizabethstre1686 You're welcome, it was with pleasure ! :) Thanks and have a good day too !
@@poesie_paienne this is very interesting, thank you for taking the time to write this reply!!! it has been very useful for me!
this is so avant-garde post-postmodernist.
One of the best music videos of all time.
All hail your Queen: Björk!
高中第一次听到就喜欢这首歌,二十多年来,这节奏,这曲调,这演唱,是他人无法超越的经典。❤❤❤
Björk is the kind of person to not even know she made the greatest song of all time
One of my top 5 favorite songs of all time.
I can say this with absolutely no apprehension.
Me too. It's my #3
my personal nr 1
Welcome back, the most talented and mysterious elf of our times
@@alexc6324 I am sure you know this, but she had a man obsessed over her send her a bomb through the mail. It was pretty scary for her.
I love her so much. I always cry like a baby every time i play Bachelorette or Unravel.
One of the most lyrically beautiful Björk songs!
Kudos to sjón
This is fantastic! Thank you Bjork! How many years we had to squint our eye trying to decipher the videos in 144p quality, and now this beauty!
I literally cried for hours after listening this beautiful masterpiece...I'm fighting with mental illness and this song speaks to my soul. It breaks my heart but I need it because it makes me feel alive. Thank you Bjork for being so unique and gifted. Your art is a dark and enlightening wander for lonely souls like me. You are truly loved ❤️
And Björk said, “Let there be art,” and there was art!
Thanks for giving us opportunity to review thisMasterpiece !!!😢😢Bjork is pure genius.....
Part of the '90s soundtrack. The last decade of great music. Brava, Bjork!
you should listen Whats Your Pleasure by Jessie Ware and consider that actual music can be great too
I'm a fountain of blood
In the shape of a girl
You're the bird on the brim
Hypnotised by the whirl
Drink me, make me feel real
Wet your beak in the stream
Game we're playing is life
Love's a two way
Leave me now, return tonight
Tide will show you the way
If you forget my name
You will go astray
Like a killer whale
Trapped in a bay
I'm a path of cinders
Burning under your feet
You're the one who walks me
I'm your one-way street
I'm a whisper in the water
Secret for you to hear
You're the one who grows distant
When I beckon you near
You might also like
Leave me now, return tonight
Tide will show you the way
If you forget my name
You will go astray
Like a killer whale
Trapped in a bay
I'm a tree that grows hearts
One for each that you take
You're the intruder's hand
I'm the branch that you break
Merci pour cette traduction ~
Merci
ça sonne encore mieux en français
Tellement poétique et mélancolique....merci pour cette traduction
Musical genius.. there will never be another Bjork.
Fka twigs
That shot of the first publisher at 3:42 getting sad hits me like a powerhouse every time.
The greatest song of all time, idc
This song change my life, the image of a tree of hearts defined a state in me, gracias Björk
Sounds like a great plot for a movie
and then my day couldnt go wrong anymore, still one of my fav videos of all time
this video is awesome! it is very good to teach students about narratives, metalanguage, mise en abyme, and a lot more... incrível!!!
"I'm a fountain of blood, in the shape of a girl"...achingly beautiful lyrics comprise this song.
I’m mesmerized how her music so closely resembles my life and my feelings. My capacity to feel pain is equal to my capacity to feel this deeply and resonate with a song of this nature. I don’t fight the pain anymore
And now we have A.I. writing scripts...
If AI tried writing this it would be something like:
I am a female that is bleeding
Because a bird sitting on a cup hypnotized me
Take a drink of the stream with your bird's beak
and I will feel it we are playing the game of life
And love and dreaming in duplication
Go away now and come back tonight
The tide will sweep you in
If you don't remember my name
You will get lost
Like an orca
That has got trapped in the exit to a watershed
I'm a burning platform
Sweltering due to your hot feet
You take me out to stroll
I am your unidirectional road
I am like a quietly spoken statement said underwater
Please listen to my secret
You're the one who is moving away
When I wave at you, you come to me
Go away now and come back tonight
The tide will sweep you in
If you don't remember my name
You will get lost
Like an orca
That has got trapped in the exit to a watershed
I'm like a plant that creates human organs in a petri dish
So you can take one each
You're the appendage of a thief
I'm the offshoot that you destroy
Hurray for AI! I can't wait for the death and reduction of human artistry as we know it. (Joking!)
Still waiting for the HD version of Cocoon music video
Yes
Cocoon would be banned because of nudity
@@WowwowLulu But, she doesn't show her nipples in Cocoon like she does in Pagan Poetry :O

Bjork is truly one of the greatest musical artists, creative artists ever - and nicest person, and even if it is inappropriate to say - hottest women ever as well. I will never get tired of her music and ever not be amazed by the creativity in her music videos.
A work of art. 👍
Tells the story in just a few minutes as if it were an entire film. There is a metaphysical intelligence spread in every minimal detail of the image.
A beauty of rare charm!
/... The music sounds, curiously, a bit like certain theme songs from 1970s crime dramas... 💙
The most original artist of her time. The most attractive woman of all time.
This is one of the best music videos I've ever seen.
SHE'S SO BEYOND.
Imagine feeling this way about someone! Her voice hits all the right emotional notes.
Amo que esté subiendo sus videos viejos ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
This is literally my favourite video of all time. Thank you
To me,when people mentione 90s+ creativity Björk is the first name that comes to my mind. She just transpires creativity. A true visionary ❤
Bjork music takes you through different dimensions
What wonderful visual storytelling, about visual storytelling! Russian dolls & storytelling genius. Absolutely love this. I've adored the song for a long time, now I adore the video too. Awesome.
'bachelorette' oozes classical strings 🎶
This is still, and forever will be, a masterpiece song out of a masterpiece album.
So many years have gone by so far, but the beauty didn't gather any dust, it still shines.
This is FUCKIN BRILLIANT!!! DAMN, I miss this era of time. Would give anything to go back to originality. 😩🥺
I️ love how she’s explaining the song in the video
I like this song so much🥰

Remember this from my childhood. We watched it on MTV Russia. Such a nostalgia. Didn’t understand her music until growing old. Now finally I get this vibe!
So beautiful, it makes me cry.
one of my favorites ever ❤
It's cheap to say you love this girl. Her love will find you if you're worthy.
One of the best short stories filmed in the ART cinema history...
One of the best music videos & song ever.
Why has no one introduced me to this? This video is art, and the video elevates it
This album changed my life. This album changed me ... molded a part of me as an artist lyrically and sonically. I was 17 when it came out and it blew my mind.
amazing comment thank you
They missed a trick not getting Bjork to do a James Bond tune. She'd be perfect.
Best one from Homogenic
Jóga in my opinion is also one of the best songs on there, too.
All the songs of this wonderful album :)
It's one of the best songs ever, not just from the album or Björk's full discography IMO

It took me back to the 90s. A piece of art. You dont see artists so creative anymore.
Oh my god, it's the book video!
After 15 years, finally found it again... and of course it was a Björk song.
I like how she was just making holes in a forest for no reason before finding the book.
