    Is luck real? It might feel like a mystical force tugging us toward good or bad fortune, but it turns out luck is really where probability runs into the human mind. That’s right, there’s a scientific side to luck, and if you study a few principles of math and psychology, you might even be able to create your own good fortune.

      First of all sorry to ruin it, but "luck is what happens when preparation and opportunity meet" was said by Seneca nearly 2000 years ago. I do firmly stand behind the idea that luck does not exist, there is religious, phylosophical and scientific interpretation of why WE CREATE LUCK. Obviously for the first one you would disagree with me beacuse reliogious is all about our fate being written by our creator. But why do we pray, why do we wish if God knows all our story? Well, maybe beacuse in some pages he has written AS YOU WISH.
      In philosophy there is Socrates who says "Reality is created by mind, we can change our reality if we change our mind" therefore our personality creates our reality.
      And for the last one -Science,
      I invite you all to the beautiful world of quantum physics which explains that universe is actually a result of mind, everything that could happen has happend, but is the act of measurment that brings it into existence( at least in our universe).
      Everything is conected my friends.

    Great video, reminds me a Chinese proverb I came across recently :
    'Once there was a Chinese farmer who worked his poor farm together with his son and their horse. When the horse ran off one day, neighbors came to say, “How unfortunate for you!” The farmer replied, “Maybe yes, maybe no.”
    When the horse returned, followed by a herd of wild horses, the neighbors gathered around and exclaimed, “What good luck for you!” The farmer stayed calm and replied, “Maybe yes, maybe no.”
    While trying to tame one of wild horses, the farmer’s son fell, and broke his leg. He had to rest up and couldn’t help with the farm chores. “How sad for you,” the neighbors cried. “Maybe yes, maybe no,” said the farmer.
    Shortly thereafter, a neighboring army threatened the farmer’s village. All the young men in the village were drafted to fight the invaders. Many died. But the farmer’s son had been left out of the fighting because of his broken leg. People said to the farmer, “What a good thing your son couldn’t fight!” “Maybe yes, maybe no,” was all the farmer said.'

      So a situation is bad luck, but became good luck after some circumstances. A herd of horses was good luck, but became bad luck because the farmer's son fell because of it, but became good again because he wasn't drafted in the army. It's like luck is just a human construct that's in line of the emotions you get from a situation whether you benefitted from it or not.

    The wealthiest guy I've ever known personally told me years ago that luck is when opportunity and preparedness meet. He told me that you make your own luck and the key is being prepared mentally to be able to recognize opportunity. Opportunity is smacking you in the face constantly but most people aren't mentally ready and can't see it because they are looking for the forest through the trees or are too scared of failure to change their way of thinking. Easier said than done. Mistakes are proof you are trying. Correcting mistakes are proof you are growing. Thanks Joe.

Now you learn only 10 of them and in the exam out of 100questions those 10 that you learned are chosen for your finals. Therefore "When practice meets opportunity = LUCK".. I believe its a good explanation, what you think?

    I used to often say out loud "That's the Luck o' the Logie for ya!". (Logie is my last name.) In general, I had a pretty positive view of life even though I was financially struggling at times. That is, until one day an unscrupulous "friend" of mine said to me "I have yet to see this 'luck' you are talking about.". For some reason his words really got to me and I never again referred to the Logie luck. Somehow, I had let it get really under my skin and the result had a huge impact on my level of happiness for quite some time. Years, in fact. (This happened in the mid-90s.)
    While it took me a long long time to "get my mojo back", so to speak, the experience thoroughly taught me the very same principles you mentioned in your vid. Among those being, the universe isn't out to "get me" and that having a positive and confident mental attitude really does make a difference in your life and by extension more "lucky". It's a good way to look at the world, even if it just simply helps you to get through a particularly "unlucky" event in your life.
    So, thank you for giving me a wonderful reminder to keep my chin up and hope for the best. Even when I am preparing for the worst... ;)
    PS: Once, after I had recently suffered from a serious back injury, my (ex)mother-in-law told me that I wasn't lucky to be alive...rather, I was /unlucky/ for breaking my back! I suppose some people would rather just focus on the ills and ire of the world instead of spending that energy cherishing the wonder and beauty that exists within it in abundance.
    You see, my life has been a constant struggle over the last 15 years. I broke my back, eventually becoming completely paralyzed from the waist down, and just recently nearly died /twice/ when an infection necessitated a heart valve replacement (actually, they rebuilt a section of my heart that was literally eaten away). I nearly didn't leave the operating table alive. I then had a freak brain "thing" after it essentially just "flat lined" for 5 days for some reason and they apparently didn't know if there was even an actual "me" inside. So, yeah, I have a pretty different view of the world, especially since the events of the last Summer, the beginning of which was when I got that horrible infection.
    But now, everything in the world is just so STARK. What I mean by that is everything is just so incredibly crystal clear and so beautiful to behold that it's almost to an uncomfortable degree. So, a lovely blue sky with a few whimsical clouds is ACHINGLY lovely; lush green grass is /so/ lush it's almost not real. And I have a new appreciation for love and friendship and absolutely NO time for anyone not with that program. Because I know my time is limited and each and every moment is more precious to me now more than at any other moment in my life. So, yeah. I MUST think positive and "lucky" or else I wouldn't have the energy to pull myself out of bed. Carpe diem has a whole other level of meaning to me. So, by all means, regardless of what condition you or your life is in, seize the day; /your/ day. And don't just enjoy and appreciate it. Make it count! ;)

    Everything that happens in this world is the outcome of the interactions of certain molecules. For example, when you kick a ball and you score it's because the molecules of your foot, of the ball, of the air...interacted in a way that brought that outcome. But, when the outcome is something that we would not expect (low chance of it happening) then we characterize it as luck (good luck if the outcome is "beneficial" for us and bad luck if not). That's how I see it.

    Luck plays a critical role when it comes to accessing opportunities (born rich, white privilege, etc.), and career (being in the right place at the right time). Luck is the collection of factors that are outside of our control. The only thing we can manage is our response to events. Persistence does improve things for some people some of the times but never always.

    There's about 40 million stimuli on this planet that can influence our perspectives and our action and our subconscious can only process a small amount each day. Luck is probably a byproduct of our subconscious minds concentrating on what is most important to us

      KK Akuoku That my friend may be the million dollar question as we say in the states. First and foremost we need to understand what the word even means - stimuli. I suppose there's many different types of stimuli that can penetrate our subconscious, but what about the ones that can't? So many questions, and when we get close to a specific answer or answers that we're comfortable with, usually invites more questions. I know you weren't asking a question, just merely giving your opinion, but every single opinion I read usually ends up being tough questions for me. I see you threw out the number 40 into the mix, that's something I have to look up because I haven't been following the art of simple psychology as it pertains to brain functionality. Perhaps I'm making it more difficult than it actually is, but to give you a decent response, I need to research it. Not all of us are born with the gift of a brilliant mind.

    You're neither unlucky that the falling boulder crashed down next to you nor lucky that it missed you. The probability of the boulder hitting you is much higher than it landing somewhere near you and I don't think the highest probability of a situation can be described as luck. But either way, you're lucky to have experienced that boulder crashing next to you because the chance of that happening is pretty low.
    Though I'd watch out in case there are some more on their way...

  • @JayeshVyas
    @JayeshVyas Před 6 lety +1

    IMO, luck is an occurrence of a low probability event. Good luck - a good low probability event occurred (like a lottery). Bad luck - a bad low probability event happened (like getting into an accident). People make futile attempts to try to reason out why it happened, while it is just by chance.

    I had to start researching luck because last year I went to the casino for the first time and won 24 jackpots in one day at the beginning of May. It was so remarkable that employees remembered me. I went once a week for the next 4 weeks and proceeded to win another 65 jackpots in 4 trips. I then got busy with work and did not go back until November where I lost 10k after winning 5 jackpots after being up 20k. I did not return until last night and I won 25 handpays and won 117k. I brought $1500 and went home with $93k after tipping 4 employees $1k each. A lot of employees remembered me from last year and were in disbelief that I was doing this again. They said they had never seen a run like mine last year and for it to happen again was unfathomable. I do not know what happens but there is something else out there.

    Luck is what people call it when they don't understand the deeper connections that are constantly happening. Luck is the same thing as chance. Neither one exist unless you're not too focused in your life and the events in it; as well as much more outward and further "looking". The old out-dated superstition Karma is the same thing as luck. The more we dive deeper into the known AND the unknown the less luck (chance) plays any role in anything. There are a lot of factors that go into understanding the connections of life, but I'm keeping it simple here. :)
    Next time someone tells you "Good luck!" are they using it as a trite statement? Or they don't know well enough that it doesn't exist? Most people use it as trite.

    Definition:
    For example you are walking next to a busy street on the side walk. There is a small chance that you perhaps find some money, get hit by a car, find a nice lady and instantly connect, find a nice shop and enter and so on and so on. Luck to me like I said; the small probability to get any one of these things.

  • @Confuzledish
    @Confuzledish Před 7 lety +28

    The common conception of 'luck' is what upsets me. Classic example: A gambler goes to the casino with his 'lucky' rabbit's foot and wins it big. Or a construction worker goes under a ladder and moments later is hit with a wayward brick.
    The idea being that outside influences that appear to have no direct correlation would have some supernatural meaningful effect on future outcomes. The gambler attributes his win not to random probability or personal observation, but on the possession of an unrelated object. The construction worker does not blame his accident on the person responsible or his own inattentiveness, but on an unrelated event that occurred prior.
    Our brains love making correlations between cause and effect, and often we stretch those correlations to satisfy ourselves. This habit has been so misused that it even has a name - luck. Luck is inherently, and by definition, a logical fallacy and believing in it is perhaps the most intellectually stunted thing you can do for yourself. Instead, work to better understand that world around you and remain optimistic. Those have real world consequences.

For example having rich parents is lucky as they can support you and with your own efforts you can go further than someone who lacks that support. Its the same with bad luck, its when you do everythig in your power but miss out due to circumstances out of your control.

Voldermort would not have lost his powers in 1981 and Harry would never have had a good reason to stand against him. • @marcospaulding9568
      @marcospaulding9568 Před 6 lety

      Ichiro J95 Oh to be honest, when I was younger I used to get critical hits and be like, "Yay!" and almost immediately after I felt antsy about my luck and was like rocking on the very peak of a mountain, and began ruining my critical hits by over thinking them before they appeared and being like "it can't happen" or "I am too lucky, this should stop" and adopting a feeling that countered my luck in times where, right before, I had almost none. For some reason, when I got older, in games I kept getting LOADS of critical hits. I think you have to accept a heart feeling and have a can't fail attitude and general faith in what you are doing, something I notice I do consistently sub-consciously now. I also think magic tricks occur because of the audience's faith in amazement to the magician, as well as i n captivating their attention. No one has doubt placed in front of their eyes as it take heavy work of the enemy to put great evil or actually evil darkness directly in front of your eyes, and can only really do it by making you turn to it. This is supported when I consciously say I am not going to fuel the magician's trick and subvert my attention... I notice often a worried and slightly flustered look in the magician, also some trippings up of theirs. While they use demons and actual magic seals and deeper magic, I feel that these demons conjure up things in part due to faith of the viewer or practicer. God made miracles... The devil had powers as an angel, which I feel became magic in his corruption. You can barely even compare the two... I just hope the devil laments, repents and can be good and praise God. Believe in God and God will never lead you astray. I still do not know from where luck is derived (at one point I thought it was partially a lingering ability the devil had as Lucifer, something he still had partial sway over), but moreover believe in God and love with all your heart, not in carnality and in fornicating, or adultery, and love God above all.

      Yeah, I think that they did not mean to present the "gambler's folly", but instead meant to point out that, given two random, independent events on a normal distribution if the "first" is on one side of the mean (say above) the the second is more likely to be in the direction of the mean (so in this case lower than the first).
      It's still not a good example though because it assumes a constant level of "mean performance". The Tom Brady example is particularly bad because the metrics cited at start and finish are completely different - it may be the case that some of those 6qb's are still faster in a 40 yd. dash than Brady, but they clearly haven't had as "successful" careers. That may just mean the measures considered for the draft are not all that predictive of performance.
      And, of course, it seems ridiculous to imagine that Tom Brady had, at the start of his career, some pre-determined and innate potential - a given "mean" - to trend towards or away from. ...

      While the outcome is independent of previous results, what he means is better explained with rolling a die. If you roll a 1, you're more likely to roll something higher next time. Obviously not because the die is keeping track, but because 5/6 results are higher than what you got last time.

    I wish I wasn't one of the most unlucky pool players on the planet. Placed 17th in the country at nationals in the highest skill bracket, yet still lose consistently to low level players who fluke shots in the wrong pocket and leave accidental defenses.
    Statistically, I know it should happen some times, but nearly half of all matches is an anomaly. It's quickly taking the fun out of the hobby which brings me the most joy in life...

    While working on a term paper and listening to a podcast at the same time, occasionally I hear an echo of what I'm typing. Given the number of words being spoken and written, it's not very unusual for this to happen. But, it seems more unusual than it is.
