One of the greatest drummers of all time. Can be very versatile as he wishes. Master of technique, dynamics and theory. Huge vocabulary apparently. Just great.
First time seeing JoJo, and I must say that I find myself watching what he does in this video over and over. What a talented drummer.

JoJo is a fantastic creative force in the drummers world. I,ve seen in 1986 ( i think) at a drummer’s festival ( Colaiuta was there and Chester Thompson)
He was a amazing fusion drummer already. Now he is a famous drumhero.
Everybody who does not see that is probably either not very smart or insanely jealous.
And who cares if he smokes pot, takes cocaine or eats bats for breakfast.
But he probably is just working all the time.
He is a one of the few real creative drummasters of our time .

Jojo possess the excellence of musicality and art and employs his technique to manifest those. Every bloody chop he shows serves its meaning and purpose.

@@ImDatOoz That's what you need to do to play drums. That's easy.
Doing all the crazy shit with his right foot while doing it is the hard part. But he was just freestyling here so you wouldn't know if he made any mistakes anyway.

Good comment. I'm only a noob but this was one of the first drumming videos I watched, back in March, having never heard of him, and knowing nothing about drumming.
Tonight for the first time ever I put my stereo on, with my E drums through my PC speakers, and jammed to drum n bass. Then my thumb started hurting so I came back here to hear a master at work.

He looks like one of those 'homeless sage' characters from cartoons, who make the main character understand a crucial part of his journey while kicking ass at something.

Jojo Mayer has always been a pioneer in modern music drumming styles. I remember his moeller tehcnique videos. Amazing speeding techniques with single drum pedal etc. Those was a long time ago. I hope he's doing ok and well in nutrition. After Aaron Spears video, I've got a bit scared.

It happens. I noticed that Benny Greb did that a couple of times during his set on "VFJams Live!' czcams.com/video/rRWk844GOmQ/video.html - It didn't matter at all, though, because Benny is also a master class drummer and his groove is also nasty. He might be my favorite from that series so far, and I don't say that lightly as all of the drummers are amazing!

I don’t get it. What has this to do with paraddiles. It’s a simple groove, but played so fast and accurately. It would be fast for two handed sticking. He is a master.
@@callumomeagher1868 They are no Single Stroke Rolls, just Only R or Only L, Not the same thing like what you mentioned. :-)
@@nutliu4751 you can hit the drum once with R or L or as many times as you want and it's still a single stroke roll. Otherwise you'd have singled handed single stroke rolls which makes no sense.
So you need 3 maybe 4 hi-hats if you want to try and play this. 😁
