You are a GOD, was considering a battery replacement at apple to fix the speaker issue and with just a little cleaning, the distortion has disappeared completely, even at max volume. Thanks a lot
THANK YOU SO MUCH! Replaced both speakers today successfully!
Just cleaning, it worked! Thanks a lot!
Thanks for the video, one of my speakers on 2012 pro has just started buzzing and crackling, I will use your information to try and remove and check it, hopefully just a cleaning job.
Thanks man. I fixed me speaker just by following your cover removal guide (spared me from accidentally bending the cover at the back). There was a piece of ferrous material stuck to the magnet. Cleaned it. Works fine.
Thank you so much for making this video. I couldn't find any relevant info anywhere else. Checking the settings for left and right was so smart. It's my right side speaker that is causing the muffling, so for now, I am just going to use the left until I get to cleaning or replacing the right speaker. It will be good to do a general clean up all over too. May the Lord bless you!
Heck ya. Thanks for the breakdown! I had ordered a speaker replacement (cheap) for my crackler but decided to open it up as the tools got here first to see if I could clean up the speaker, sure enough there was some metal junk stuck to the magnet. Polished with an alcohol cloth, blew everything out, and it sounds perfect!
Glad you learned from my mistake =)
Thanks so much for this. Make sure you check for metal on the speakers like he says before replacing them. I had a speaker that sounded so busted, took it into apple shop but they said it would be £550 to fix as it was out of warranty. So I found this video and took the back off and there was a few bits of metal on the speaker magnet. Removed them and now the speaker sounds perfect again.
I've had the same issue twice. I have a hobby metal shop, and my guess is that the filings created get stuck on my clothes and end up getting tractor beamed into the speaker magnets. Both times, I attempted to remove the visible ferrous metal from the speaker with a q-tip, but I'ts almost impossible to do without damage to the dainty speaker surrounds in this tiny speaker. Save yourself some time, and just buy a replacement, because Im 90% sure that by the time you start hearing the crackle noises, the speaker is already toast. Also, it's a good idea to vacuum and blow out the computer board with compressed air while you are in there, because the fans pull in all kinds of crap and drag it right across the board including the speakers... If you skip this step, you will be right back in here replacing your speaker again soon after.
Thank you for the helpful video!
Great video! Thank you 🙏
This video was so helpful and easy to follow! I had the same distorted issues with my right speaker. I opened up the laptop in an attempt to replace the speaker but turns out I didn’t need to because there’s a metal debris stuck to it and removing it fixed the issue. Thank you for this tutorial, Eric! 😊
Glad you did it without replacing, I wish I knew thats what it was before I did the full replacement
Same here. I just cleaned the debris off the speaker and that fixed it.
BUT I used my vacuum cleaner to clean the fans, and now one is making a funny noise 😞
@@johnflux1 aw fuck
Thanks for the great video. I've bought multiple mid-2015 MacBook Pro's and have noticed a trend in that when they have blown speakers, which is often, replacing them only results in the newly installed speakers also getting blown. So something is wrong, perhaps a design flaw or manufacturing defect, that means replacement alone is not enough to fix the problem. I've seen lots of MBP users posting about blown speakers, and quite a few talk of speakers being blown multiple times. I've yet to find what underlying cause needs fixed, other than "replace the logic board."
Thanks, this clip really saved me some money.
You are welcome =)
Great Video, thanks mate.
My 16 inch M1 just developed a faulty RHS speaker and after watching your video I gave it a quick blast of compressed air through the side vent port and that has greatly improved the sound quality, so my problem will be fine steel particles attracted to the speaker magnets. I use the laptop in my metal working shop and fine grinder dust must be drifting over to where I have it sitting and getting inside the case. I'll take the bottom cover off and give it a better clean now Thanks a million for your video.
Thanks for that comment
I blew through the vent and that fixed it for me!
Great video Thank you !
I can't believe cleaning the speakers actually seems to have worked. Thanks!
Glad you got yours fixed.
Thank you! This is an awesome tutorial for this fix. I'm gonna give it a try....
You are welcome, let us know how it goes!
Oh my gosh thank you so much!!! I was so scared I had broke something when my mac fell.
You are welcome =)
1. Always disconnect battery first🙏🏼
2. Using isopropyl alcohol in a syringe under the speaker loosen adhesive in few seconds and don’t accidentally damage electronics.
Hope this can help someone
Thank you!
So my new 2022 16" MacBookPro M1 was having the same crackling/muffled sound issue out of nowhere is morning. I've had the laptop for just over a month and never blast the speakers. I tried resetting the machine...nothing. I tried booting up in Safe Mode...nothing. I upgraded the OS to 12.6.2...nothing. I was about to take it into the Apple Store when I read a CZcams comment that said some sand had gotten into the machine and was sitting on top of the speaker thus causing the crackling. My first thought was BS! However, being frustrated a blew as hard as I could into the right speaker/ventilation opening on the underside of the case...and what do you know, the crackling went away. I kid you not. WTF!
Sand be-gone!
Haha, I read your comment and my immediate thought was that your claim about blowing into the vent was BS. But, I just gave it a try myself... Sure enough, my MacBook suddenly sounds better. 😅 Thanks for sharing!!
Holy shit 😨 i also thought you were bluffing but it worked
Hi, same issue in the right one, I have already replaced both and clean everything but right still sounds bad, any ideas?
Why do my macbook pro speakers sound fine albeit not particularly loud when I move from one side to the next but sound like sh8t buzzy when I put the L/R toggle on the center?
i have air m2 and my left speaker buzz a lot but im not. gonna fix it like this
I just turned down the volume of the bad speaker, so am only using one speaker. Problem solved at least for now.
why do you not tryed the old speaker without the metal..... just to know if the sound is still there
Thanks so much for this helpful video, I'm on a MacBook Pro 13-inch, 2013, so I'm not sure how easy it is to replace the speaker (only one is dodgy), but is it a good idea to replace it even if the other one is working? Is there a chance that the corrosion or debris causing the speaker damage could spread across the logic board?
I would say open it up and look for debris, thats the most likely cause.
@@thecollegefixer653 Thanks heaps.
Im ready to try to clean my speaker. Where do you get the special apple screwdriver?
I got one from eBay for like a few dollars
Would be better to take the macbook to the Apple Store and have them fix/replace the speakers?
Hey Eric I really need you to help!! Hope this tutorial does help because I'm losing my hearing with this crackling buzzing!!
I get it, it was driving me nuts too. I had to change it out and it went away. Good luck =)
my ears also hurt.. Ventura 13.1
Is vacuuming through the grill on low suction with a brush tip a bad idea for an intermediate step (in the unlikely event there is debris grill side)? Asking for a friend...👀
I dont think it will dislodge the metal from the magnet of the speaker but worth a try
I tried that, and it didn't work. But just removing the lid and then removing the debris was enough to fit it for me.
Small little debris on my speakers here too was able to clean it and it improved the sound some any speaker brand you recommend not to suck?
There are no other speakers that will fit inside your laptop.
@@johncoops6897 I applied a litte glue to the edges to repair the existing speakers it's not quite as loud as it was but I will call it a win
my macbook pro 15 2012 speaker were fine but after i used fxsound on windows to try to maximise speaker volume and bass, now the left speaker is blown 😂
Funny thing is I was watching a show & heard the crackling but then I started watching this video to fix it & now I don't hear it...I think my MacBook is onto me.
My MacBook is brand-new just four month old and this is causing me issue. I don't know whether Apple will replace the speaker under warranty. It's 14 inch m2 pro
was it fixed?
i have m2 pro and same problem, my left speaker sounds like that. If I open the bottom casing will it void my MacBook's warranty? helpppp
try to blow through the vent on the side. That fixed it for me
i just had the same issue and fixed it by turning the volume to max. Weirdest issue and weirdest solution
Omg I just tried this!!! And it literally worked. I am shocked! Thank you for posting this comment...now hopefully this permanently fixed the issue, fingers crossed!
Hey i just bought a mac M1 3 days ago and when i play songs with high base i can hear some disturbance in my left speaker and when i play normal songs with low base it works fine
What should I do or it will fix automatically
was it fixed?
@@varunbavandla3739 bro I changed the speaker but still the disturbance wasn't solved then they told that its audio's problem not speaker's So at last you have to get used to it and i will not recommend you to change the speakers as nothing changed !
Now this thing is not bothering me disturbance happens sometimes but not everytime !
@@iamxpossible it's bothering me to sir...i'm done with the laptop!it's brand new and apple just ruined it.thanks for replying.
@@varunbavandla3739 you better get used to it for self relaxation you can change the speakers
Anybody else listening to this video with a broken Macbook speaker?
Are you SURE you're not Mikey Day from SNL? You have his exact voice.
I may be. This might be my alias.
Thought the same thing!! LOL
no good , but good
or just buy a big speaker for home use and a small speaker for portable use
So the solution to fixing the busted speaker is to replace it huh? Awesome
wouldnt it be better to just replace the top case if it was in a better condition?
Just the speaker is the easiest job, less labor hours or chances of breaking something. But you could if you were comfortable moving over the motherboard and the display. I prefer to do the easiest repair possible, hopefully that logic helps =)
@@thecollegefixer653 i done it on my 2017 15, trust me its aint that hard just a little complicated. i done the screen first then motherboard rather than doing it at the same time
@@3ijnweu3oq3 More than one way to win 💪 Good work on the fix =)
@@thecollegefixer653 well atleast you have a spare battery if your one ever dies good job on the repair!
@@3ijnweu3oq3 Appreciate it! The buzzing noise was driving me crazy. 🤣
Funny thing was that I'm watching this on my MacBook Pro A2141 with it's muffled speakers.
Did you find a fix?
I just opened mine, there was a piece of stone on speaker, thanks
Good work! I wish I had the sense to find the debris before replacing =)
If the speakers were decent quality in the first place you wouldnt have any problems.
Youd think right? Dang apple
