Mary modified this old traditional Irish song (Raglan Road)to reflect the events of 911 and to honor all the hero's lost and still with us today. Mary claims that it is her favorite song writing effort. I must agree. Mary, you're the best and thank you Mary for blessings.
The fact that she can sing like this in such a powerful and perfect way in a mere house setting shows what ridiculous talent she has. One of the best American singers PERIOD!

Just saw this marvelous artist two nights ago in Philly @WorldCafeLive. Better than ever, mesmerizing.
I just recently saw "The Guys" and heard this song. An amazing story, an amazing song. And the voice of an angel that tells an amazing story of undaunted courage. It brings tears to my eyes everytime I watch this. Thank you for posting it. Lest we forget.

First time hearing Mary, and she has a fine voice. Regarding the comment about Eva Cassidy and her lovely voice, she put out a few wonderful albums before she was taken by illness way too young.
A very beautiful voice and a very moving song. She did more than "modify" the song Raglan Road, though, she wrote entirely new lyrics, apart from the words "the dawning of the day". This is on her album "The Other Side of Time".

'coveredus' who posted the song, says it's a rewriting of Raglan Road, which both you and I know it's not.
As I'm sure you know, Raglan Road was written in the 1940s by Patrick Kavanagh and put to the music of TDOTD by Luke Kelly/The Dubliners
