I use these , believe it or not and the reason is that I don't like to boil my potatoes, I like to bake them. don't laugh now, I put a little bit of dawn on the gloves , that's right Dawn and run it under a little bit of hotish water and then scrub all the dirt and grime off the potatoes which still leaves the peel but leaves me with a clean potato to bake! Try it in that vein and you maybe more welcoming to the idea of what they can do, oppose what they were made to do. Semper Fi, Robbie

That apple peeler works quite well on, well, apples. When I used to volunteer in the kindergarten near home, the kids are encouraged to bring an apple to snack on, and they all got super excited when it was snack time and one of the teachers brought out the apple peeler from the staff room. After peeling, coring and slicing, the apple would resemble a slinky and the children would have great fun playing and eating them. I must admit that I also brought my own apples just so I could have my own slinky, and for some reason it did taste nicer that way :)

Back in about 1983, we had a Rotato. But back then it was called a Dazey Stripper. I LOVED it as a kid. I would keep using it until the potato was just a stub and use it to make hashbrowns. I just bought a Rotato because of you, btw. Thank you :)

I have the rotato and I love it as it’s great for disabled people and arthritic people as sometimes you’re not able to properly hold the potato and peel it manually

Oh yeah, I picked up that apple peeler at a garage sale for 50 cents a while ago. Works beautifully on apples. Cores it and everything.

Wash every peeler in the dishwasher and try them again. Some of them will stand out after that.

it may have already been said, but the gloves are for peeling "New Potatoes" Here in denmark we have such things and the peels are very easy to remove they are never really removed, but they are almost no existent with a good rub... people use brushes for the same effect

I have an 'aversion' to peeling potatoes...ugh...So, I bought a Rotato as you suggested...exact one...and it is wonderful. It can peel a potato faster than I can cut one in pieces to be boiled for mashing. Thank you!

Tater mitts : Bpil the potatoes for at least five minutes before you peel under cold water with the gloves.

I have the titan. I like that it doesn't leave the potato smooth so it's easier tip grab and not slip as much.

The gloves are for cleaning the surface ,not peeling.
I would use them for that because I often cook potatoes with the skin on.
The electric makes a beautiful potato, but so what, hand peeling is faster and nearly as good.
Magic trio seems the best bet because they are multi-purpose.
    Cheers,

The tater mitts look like the safety gloves you can use to grab fish when fishing to avoid nasty fin cuts- they don’t take scales off, I couldn’t imagine trying to take potato skin off!

Always love your videos, even though I would never use many of the things you review. The potato peeler gloves are simply repurposed chemical resistant ones. I deliver fuel daily, 99% of the time loading in Vegas. The ones we have are blue instead of orange. Was pretty entertained watching you try to peel potatoes with gloves I carry in my truck!

With the mitts, I would boil the potato first, then peel it before mashing, etc using the gloves. That would probably make them work better, but nothing is better than a friggin standard peeler.

  • @islagkage15963
    @islagkage15963 Před 4 lety

The tater mitts would likely work for fresh spring/summer potatoes. As they have super thin skin and just need some of the outermost layer removed along with the dirt

    CORRECTION:
Yes, Jodie Simpson is absolutely, dead-on correct. The Tater mitts are made exactly for washing / scrubbing clean raw potatoes and other vegetables. And does it gently and easily, but most of all cleanly remove the peel from potatoes and other vegetables that have been boiled, roasted or have otherwise had their skins softened. Like roasted Chili Peppers and bell peppers Etc.
How about another test of vegetable washing/scrubbing tools/gadgets? Go grab those Tater Mitts off of the shelf and give them a proper run , doing what they are made to do, the way the way they are designed to do it?! At the very least, I believe you'll be quite impressed with them. Sincerely,
    Yvonne Quartuccio (via Tim Richards)

    >> For the Tater Mitts your suppose to boil the potatoes for a couple minutes first and then rub the skin off. Takes a little prep work.

I love Rotato Express, and I have the cordless one, which is great if you don't like to be tethered to a cord. Another thing that's good about it is, after you've peeled it, let it keep rotating and you can make shoestring potatoes.......put the strings in a bowl with a little oil, salt, pepper, garlic and toss them into an air fryer. It's not just a peeler, it multi-tasks and becomes a spiralizer.

We had got 2 bushels of apples. 1 bushel at a time using the starfrit peeler. We did 20 apples at a time. Yes you have to peel top and bottom and the core is there. But wow did it go faster. We put apples in the freeze for pies. I took the peels and cores and made apple juice for drinking, jellies, and syrup. Use it for potatoes too. Best money spent.

Interesting. I would have reversed the Betty Crocker and the spiralizer. As you pointed out, the spiralizer was more expensive than the rotato and did not get all of the peal off. The Betty Crocker peeler may not have been outstanding, but it did remove all of the peel and was only $1.00!

3:02 I have that one though I didn’t pay any where near that price, dam you got ripped off I payed like £4 for mine, but I actually find I use it mostly when we haven’t refilled the grated cheese and I need some to mix into stuff of for beans& cheese on toast.
It also works super well on frozen chocolate for garnishing stuff.
Side note it also works really well on fingernails and skin so be careful, I actually tested it on wood and it went through it just like the potato.
