If there was a Thrash Metal guitar university, playing the Holy Wars would be the climax of the final master's exam. To date, I have not found a song that could replace it in this. And you have just passed it successfully. Congratulations! Great video, thank you.

You know, I've been playing since about 1992, yet I've never even made a serious attempt to learn this song until now. I always knew it was a master class in thrash riffing, but now that I see what goes in to it, Holy Christ, it's insane. This is going to take several views and lots of practice to put together. Try Rocksmith 2014, that's how I learned most of my Megadeth riffs.
same here and its a tricky song but tons of fun to learn and great metal workout. The solos are brutal however to learn. Would love to see a lesson on the Marty Friedman solos!

man I played guitar from probably 1998 to around 2014ish and then kinda stopped playing. recently picked it back up and Ive been attacking some megadeth tunes that I always considered "out of reach" in terms of speed and technical shit. but HOLY FUCKING SHIT with youtube videos like yours I feel like I can actually crack these tunes that seemed impossible to me 10-15 years ago. like Im surprising myself with what is actually possible. I can already play a good part of take no prisoners and after about a week of agony I can do the holy wars intro and Im trying to get the first main riff down now. its sloppy, its slow, its frustrating but with videos like this I feel thers really excuse anymore. seriously thank your putting the time in and demystifying these legendary tunes its really appreciated.

Awesome lesson man you totally nailed the chromatic parts in the beginning where most tabs get wrong. I noticed the part where you come in at 4:29 for Marty’s section that you start on the E. I believe he starts on the E flat and then descends chromatically to the A flat. I played both ways to the studio and live versions and it sounds like he starts on the E flat. This would make sense because if you play both Dave’s and Marty’s part together it’s a b7 chord. I started playing the B7 chord (at Marty’s part) and descend chromatically to the A7 chord and it sounds absolutely fucking amazing

Great lesson! I agree with your observations concerning the inaccuracies contained in many of the published “Official “ guitar tabs books . I have had the same dissatisfaction with many times I had already learned a song or many songs , then purchased the book and see something very different than the way I thought it went ! At first I assumed I had an inexperienced ear ,until I’d try playing the book version.Eventually I realized that the publisher was just lazy and under a time crunch (I think).

Have you put "The Het Set" pick ups in a Mustaine guitar?! If so, that's awesome lol.
I guess it's the original pick-up. Livewires, by Seymour Duncan, Dave Mustaine Signature pickups based on the JB/JAZZ set, but actives. They were around way before the het set I believe since 2007.
The only reason I thought I'd give this lesson a shot was for the part where he says no need to explain it. I guess I'll go learn somewhere else

LambChopper678 I only use Ernie ball. I went from 10/46 to 10/52 to 11/48 and back to 10/46 I’m so Indecisive lol
