    I've been using the Sony 16-55mm F2.8 G Series lens for a while now and this is a lens thats a lot have APSC camera users have been waiting for. A standard zoom with a fast constant aperture of F2.8. I can't stress enough how much I loved using this as a travel lens on the a6600. It was fast to focus and I had a lot of keepers during my trip to Singapore and Japan.

    ... man, that lens is one of the best APSC-lenses on the market. You can use it in crop-modus on the a7R IV - it’s amazing! 👍🏻 BTW: First!

    I'm curious.... How will it work on the A7RIII?

    I tried it at Yodobashi yesterday. Great focus and zoom feel, light, and despite being composite, really solid. Focus speed is blinding fast on an A9 (and vignetting is massive), especially next to the 16-55 on my X-T3. What a combination.

    • @JohnSisonPhotography
      @JohnSisonPhotography  Před 4 lety

      Jealous! I miss Yodobashi! Its definitely a solid lens and a good combo with the APSC cameras which is something that a lot people were waiting for.

      @@JohnSisonPhotography I think it would be really cool if Sony built out a easily hand holdable Ax000 series camera that was ready to compete with the A9 for focus speed, but better yet, be as comfy to hold as an G9.

    Definitely getting this lens. Have you ever used the 24 1.4 GM on the 6600? Toying around with the idea of having a 35 FF equivalent

    • @JohnSisonPhotography

      I have used it briefly. I would say if that's what you're going for, then its definitely a good option . I love that lens!

    Very well-done and relevant review, thanks. I’ve got this on my wish list to go with my a6600 and can’t wait. My plan is to have it replace my primes by Sony and Sigma (50mm and 30mm, respectively) and keep those in the bag with my a6500 backup camera. I enjoy architectural and automotive photography, so do you think this approach makes sense? This lens won’t be as fast as those primes but I think will be close enough for that I need and will be an upgrade in terms of build and image quality as well as versatility in a single lens. Thanks again, subscribed!

      Thank you for the kind words and yes! This lens should be able to fulfil what you need it for. The versatility of it makes it even easier for different kinds of shoots that you might have later on. Thank you for subscribing! 🙏

    Thank you for all of your reviews, they all help a lot.
    Just wondering, how much better do you feel the A7R IV is compared to the a6600 in terms of both daytime stills and low light stills (I don't do video at all).
    I know all the specs and seen a billion YT videos already so I just want your personal opinion before I purchase a full frame. I don't want to spend money on renting an a7R IV yet to personally test my self. The sample images on DPReview tell me a good amount on what I think, but i'd like your opinion as well because you've used way more cameras than I have. Thank you!

    • @JohnSisonPhotography
      @JohnSisonPhotography  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi! I apologise for the late reply! Daytime stills, you may not be able to tell the difference but there is a lot of resolution in it and in my opinion, it does look like things are a lot better when it comes to pixel peeping on the A7R. Low light is definitely better and that is way more noticeable on a full frame compared to the a6600.

    I’m on the fence, I need portrait lenses. I currently have the Sony 85 1.8 and the Zeiss 16-70 4.0 on my a6500. I was thinking of getting the Sigma trio or should I sell my Zeiss 16-70 4.0 and get this Sony 2.8 lens???

    • @JohnSisonPhotography
      @JohnSisonPhotography  Před 4 lety

      It depends on you really. If you get the sigma trio, you would be swapping lenses a lot. Would you be okay with that? If so, I would probably go with that option.

    thinking about getting it for my a6400. also looking at the new Sigma 24-70mm, even though it's really a lot different on a crop sensor.

    • @JohnSisonPhotography
      @JohnSisonPhotography  Před 4 lety

      The Sigma is a lot heavier. It might be a good option to get the Sigma if you are looking at getting a full frame camera later but in the meantime, you will have to deal with having a tighter image because of the crop factor.

    • @funkyboogiee
      @funkyboogiee Před 4 lety

      @@JohnSisonPhotography yea the sony lens probably makes a lot more sense as i am still really unsure about switching to full frame. (i like the idea of having lenses for a future FF, but i'm just not sure if I'm doing that or not)

    • @JohnSisonPhotography
      @JohnSisonPhotography  Před 4 lety

      @@funkyboogiee Best to go with the Sony then. You could always sell the lens later and lose a bit of money but at least it'll fund the Sigma later if you decide to jump to full frame.

    • @DJNibz
      @DJNibz Před 4 lety

      John Sison also forgot to mention that neither my camera body or that lens has any type of IS and I do most of my photography without a tripod

  • @gabithemagyar
    @gabithemagyar Před 4 lety

    If I had an a6500 or a6600 I would get this lens but I have no overriding reason to buy a new camera body. Since I have an a6000 and an a6300, the lack of OSS is a deal breaker for me since my primary use would be for stills hand held shot inside at slow shutter speeds (museums, galleries, Churches etc.). Outside, I don't need f2.8 as a rule … f4 constant does me fine. Pity that Sony did not include OSS considering that 4 out of the 6 available A6xxx bodies do not have IBIS.

    • @JohnSisonPhotography
      @JohnSisonPhotography  Před 4 lety

      That's a fair reason. I did miss having the IBIS when I used it with the a6600 and on the a6400 it was noticeable when I didn't have it.
