  • Today we chop the muffler out of our 2001 Dodge Dakota 4.7 liter v8. It's not truly straight piped since we kept the catalytic converter in, but it add's just enough volume to satisfy the ears. We put a piece of straight pipe in place of the muffler so we still retain a full length exhaust. I go over what you need for parts, tools, and show you how to do it yourself. Enjoy the trials and tribulations that we encounter while doing such a simple job!

    Tip for anyone doing this, DO NOT USE those exhaust clamps they are garbage. If you can not weld it juat use JB weld and glue them together and make some custom hangers out of wire and add some exhaust cement or more JB weld around the seems to get a perfect seal (not necessary) but i recommend.

      @@trikelyfe6090 Yeap, 100% better than those trash clamps that not only ruin your pipes but do not seal for shit.

      Yes these are the exact pipes I got. Both 18 inches. One has. 2.5" inside diameter outlet on both sides, one has a 2.5" inside diameter neck on just one side

    Whats going on buddy,
    What aftermarket muffler did you decide on using?

    How long of pipe did you end up using?

    • @bikesandbangs
      @bikesandbangs  Před 7 měsíci +2

      Just two 18 inch pieces, but by the time you slip the ends in each other, it's probably closer to 34 inches. And I took out about a 30 inch section from the truck. So that gives you extra pipe to slip over the factory pipes

    If there wasn't problem's during a project...it wouldn't be a project. I do this stuff for a living and if something doesn't fight me along the way I wonder what went wrong.

      I learned, even my wife learned, not to say, "oh this will be easy or straightforward". Those famous last words turn into yelling and multiple trips to hardware/home improvement stores.
