    Your advice is like gold to me! I'm thrilled to have discovered your channel. It's exactly what I've been searching for. I've been experiencing knee pain and was in need of a CZcams video that explains how to engage the glute muscles while walking.

      Thank you for the kind feedback. Growing up, we don't have to think about these things but as we get older and fall into habits that don't serve us, we have to relearn how to use our bodies.

    Are you saying that one should squeeze the glutes in the leg which is about to come forward, while walking?

    • @DrAmyNovotny
      @DrAmyNovotny  Před 8 měsíci

      Thanks for asking. You should feel the lower glutes contract in the leg right before it swings forward when walking.

  • @hunkypunky161
    @hunkypunky161 Před 9 měsíci

    Does this mean we should take a wider stance during walking

    • @DrAmyNovotny
      @DrAmyNovotny  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Not at all. Too many people have too wide of a stance. You want to sense your inner thigh muscles, the adductors, working. They are critical to the stability of your pelvis and so you don't rely too much on your low back muscles to help you walk.

    Ditch them shoes. Ditch the heel walk and instead of lifting onto heels in front of body mass push and pull through the ground behind you and the glutes work properly and your foot will land on its own under the mass not infront on a heel… this is incorrect and shoes created this!
    Now do it and feel your glutes feel your core you will use it all properly

    • @DrAmyNovotny
      @DrAmyNovotny  Před 5 měsíci

      Thanks for your input Matthew. The heels help people activate their hamstrings to stabilize the pelvis. Yes, we want to push from behind to get the hamstrings and lower glutes to swing the leg forward.
