    Was diagnosed with severe osteoarthritis in left hip last year. Have always been very athletic and had a good idea that if I could find a way to "re-invent" the way I walk, it would probably help. Ran across your video and noticed that after about a week of practicing what you suggest I'm no longer limping & the pain is almost all gone. Thanks for sharing this valuable info!

      @@johnwaldrop3211 Had a setback a few weeks ago after I thought that it was feeling good enough to jog on one day causing it to get really inflamed. Since then, I've been doing lots & lots of glute exercises to hit them from different angles and using my "re-invented" walk. It's now feeling really good again. Just have to restrain myself when I feel like jogging. Lol! Thanks for asking.

    I have been living with bone on bone hip and refused replacement in 2016. I have been trying to heal mostly on my own only with help from FB groups. Today I am overwhelmed because I have found your videos. I am 78. I have been athletic and was completely ignoring the pain till it became unbearable. i am now without pain and can stand but walk with two canes not to put my whole weight on those hips. I have been doing the but exercises and moving my legs, Qigong, and stretching but not knowing what to do it is hard. Now I am overwhelmed because I feel that God has answered my prayers and that I will be OK.

    I am 76 years old and was actually holiday shopping for a walker because I felt that was my future. Then I found your site and began doing your glute and ab exercises in early December 2023 for my crippling lumbar stenosis pain. I do all of them most every day and after mastering the pelvic tilt and glute isolation and my lumbar pain levels have lessened from a 6-8 to a more manageable 4-5. Plus after my floor exercises I also spend 30 minutes to an hour on my recumbent bike. Just last week, I actually vacuumed and mopped my floors - something I've left to somebody else for over a decade. Now I think I might be ready to learn to walk correctly. I also have spinal scoliosis so walking straight while keeping my balance is difficult for me. My body just doesn't seem to want to cooperate, but I will do my best. Also, I am now able to, more gracefully, get up and down off the floor with very little pain which every older adult really should master. I can't tell you how much I appreciate these videos and I will continue doing these exercises for the rest of my life. Thank you so much. If I'm ever in El Paso I'm going to stop by and personally thank you and everyone behind the scenes. To anyone thinking about it - start now. What do you have to lose?

      I listened to two of your videos so far and will begin practicing and let you know how I am doing. 76 cone this June. Athletic all my life and was gymnast early on, runner, weights, Yoga and Chi Gong. But I have a right hip that is stiff and hurts while walking. Glutes are important in everything we do. Can you give exercise demo for glutes and that means the gluteus medium as well as the maximus. 🎉😂❤

      He is misinforming. He prolong the pain . I did after 6 yrs pain pain n hip tried all exercises amazingly my diet everything, I did last week the replacement . AMAZING I HAVE NO PAIN I BROUGHT MY LIFE BACK

      Exactly you need hip replacement then it all goes away trust me went to physical therapy and nothing worked until I got hip replacement then. It all went away

    You are a lifesaver. I’m a 69 year old woman having hip replacement surgery in 3 weeks. I have been in extreme pain, much worse than the pain I had before my knee replacements. I started doing the glute exercises a few days ago then saw this video about using the glute muscles to walk. This would never have occurred to me. I tried this to walk around my house and was able to walk with little pain. Thank you.

    Thank you so much for this video, it has saved me. I have been on Meloxicam 15mg for the past week and it has had no affect on my pain. The pain radiates from my hip down to my knee and I haven't been able to walk more than 20 feet without sitting down. I watched your video at 4:00 AM, practiced my walking and got brave and went to Target at 10:00 AM. When I first got in the store I thought, what a mistake I made, but I just concentrated on the butt muscles and my pain would go away. Home now at lunch time and I'll get a little pain to remind me to use that muscle, but it seems as if my major crisis is over. Maybe I'll be able to sleep tonight, I hope. I don't see my hip Doctor for another 2 weeks and I didn't know how I would ever make it. Thank you again, you are My Savior!

    Thank you so much for posting this video! I was told I should be walking with my toes pointed forward and I have been trying to do this for a few years and it hurt my hips so much! Focusing on strengthening my glutes, relaxing my quads and moving my knees in and out while sitting is a game changer!! My feet naturally want to point a little outward so I feel I can finally walk properly again. When I was told I had hip osteoarthritis I thought I would never be able to do anything without pain again until I had my hip replaced. You are like my angel for posting these videos.     oh man!! so good. I am a yogi and martial artist and thought i had ALL the movement part of hip OA figured out (I HAVE done well-avoided surgery 15 years after diagnosis), BUT

    Thank you so much for these detailed instructions for stretching and exercising. It was exactly what I needed! My pain started to lessen after the first day. Now 5 days later it is 98% gone. Its amazing how fast we can strengthen our muscles by just even simple contractions. This reminds me to also do my kegals…and those work fast too. I had to return to express my gratitude.     I am really appreciating all of your content regarding what can be done to avoid a total hip replacement, which I am up against at age 65, after countless falls on my left hip while telemark skiing, snowboarding, skateboarding and forgetting to clip out of my pedals occasionally! Over around the past 3-4 years the hip has gradually degraded to where I had to decide what to do about it......Got a nasty x-ray back showing some bone on bone with significant FAI and bone systs.....Of course the surgeons suggest that a THR is the only solution, but I am giving myself the chance to avoid that by researching physiotherapy techniques and your vids are giving me the methods that are working best and actually relieving a lot of the pain and increasing both internal and external rotation ranges. I'm going back and looking at everything you have put out regarding hips and implementing all that the best I can. So far really good results, so thanks again!!!! Being cut on is almost beyond my imagination, what with the chances of a lot of bad stuff happening as a result. They can keep their knives, I'm going to figure this out!

      How are you doing now? I've just went through total hip replacement and it is HE$@! I really didn't have a choice because my leg wasn't attached to the hip and the pain was more than I could stand! Please be sure not to get to a point you're actually doing more damage to yourself? 😢

      Age 69, I had a RHR last Fall, and although I had a reaction to meds, the surgery was seamless, and I did not experience any pain, not even taking an aspirin for 6 months! Sadly my Left Hip joint has deteriorated so I’m not ready YET for any surgery, so am reviewing options. Like you, since I can still deal with the RT Hip, I hope to rehab it while I review other options. I am so Glad,, very Glad that I found this Channel as it gives me hope beyond all other PT I have done. Fingers crossed for all of us!

    I’m 24 yrs old w OA. Been limping for weeks! Tightened my glutes when walking around my room. At first I didn’t quite understand but when I did… no more limp & pain! I cried.       24 - sorry to hear that. Yours may correct itself with rest, rest, rest. I am 67 and have OA and can’t shake it. However, when I was 35 I entered a bike marathon. Long story short, my hip was shot afterwards, and I though I injured it long term - it was caused from hard overuse. I rested it for 3-4 months and it cleared up 100%.

    I’m about to turn 21 and sadly was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in both my hip joints and have little to no cartilage left. It’s been unbearable walking some days. ty so much for this informative video this is going to help me a lot whilst I wait for my replacement surgery.

    I went and had Nordic Walking instructions which are all about posture. I find walking with the sticks helpful. Was not concentrating on glutes and feet though. Thank you. I am in less pain. I do find all the exercises tiring!! I have bone on bone arthritis and am 80 this year.

    Thank you for teaching the correct way to walk when one has this condition 😊 i had a dislocated left hip age 13, i sm now 64 when the cold weather is happening the pain in my left hip and left knee absolutely is horrible 😢 i am going to start practicing what you show on this video i do not want to hobble around anyone ❤

    Ditto to what Hysy8603 said. I'm an 68 year old male, most always been athletic, then I retired and became more sedentary editing lots of photos. My hips started giving me problems about seven years ago, but not bad enough to seek professional care. Long story short... one day I discovered I couldn't cross my legs. That was a bit alarming. I was also to a point where I could walk or jog a mile or so, but after that distance I developed pain, soreness... likely from inflammation. I did get xrays and the Dr. said I had moderate to severe OA. After 10 months of trying all kinds of exercises and stretches ... none seem to work ... I found your video. Now, finally seeing real results after learning to walk again using your technique for about 3-weeks now. Thank you so much. Still can't cross my legs, but who knows... might be able to eventually regain my ROM. Thank you again. Pete, Huntsville, AL

    I have been searching for a decade for the right biomechanics to correct my hip pain. Finally!! You’ve given the explanation for why my quads and hip flexors are so damn tight. Just did first round of these exercises and can isolate gluts during a very slow walk. Wow am I hopeful this is going to help. Thank you.

    immediate results! I’m 61 and I’ve always been a competitive athlete. Recently I’ve been diagnosed with osteoarthritis in my left hip and have considered a hip replacement. I have been walking funny trying to deal with the pain in the front of the hip.
    I watched your entire video and practiced walking the way you recommended by engaging the glutes. Not only is there immediately less hip pain, but I also have better posture. My gate and stride is much smoother. I can feel my glute muscles engaging which is taking the stress off my hip flexors. This is so amazing! Thank you so much!

      I appreciate your positive comment on this video. I cancelled my hip replacement surgery in 2019, because my heart said no! I stumbled upon this video today, and have been reading the comments. I’m feeling positive and ready to start using these walking techniques. I will come back and give my verdict. I’m not yet 50, but pretty close. My right hip is beyond bone on bone, whilst my left hip is bone on bone. However I’m trying to do everything in my power to avoid hip replacement surgery.

    Hey in your other video I commented that it's all about the glutes and the hip strength and exercising those muscles with alignment but I want to thank you for responding and pointing out that it has to do with feet too because I realized from way back when I'm an over pronator and that's caused the knee joint to go completely out of whack I'm getting fitted this week for orthotics and better shoes and I think this is going to avoid knee surgery

    Oh my goodness! I am scheduled for Hip Replacement in 10 days. My bone in bone arthritis is so bad and so painful! Just practicing this helped a little with the pain. My hope is that I can avoid having my right hip deteriorate. Thank you!!!

      i hope all went great. i had a hip replaced and was walking without aid within 2 weeks. a niggling pain was eliminated by just focusing on these butt muscles. hoping yours were strong enough that your recovery went smoothly and quickly

    Thank you. Thank you. I needed 5his info. I'll work on this! From Kamloops, BC, Canada 🇨🇦. Its weird to need to relearn how to walk normally. I used to easily tighten up them glutes. Since I've been so sore...especially squatting... I've let them be lazy. I walk yo walk normally again. Only 57 yrs old. Know what's weird? I while ago, when nobody was looking I walked with feet pointed outwardly, exaggerated and it helped. I forgot about this helping. Good reminder.

    I had so much pain/limping when walking -- I owe my dog about 300 walks! I tried the walking techniques in this video last weekend -- first around the house, then around the block. It was a world of difference!! I can walk more now than I have been able to for weeks/months. Thank you so much for sharing this!!
    I'm looking through your videos on how to improve hip range of motion and hip flexor/groin pain, which doesn't seem to respond to any exercises so far.

    Great video with some good information! I have moderate arthritis in my right hip and mild in my left, confirmed through xray. I do daily yoga to open the hips. My main difficulty is stair climbing and walking up an incline. However, I can walk level for a couple of miles and I try to do that most days. What has helped me and I stumbled across this by accident is to vary my stride length and to 'breathe in' on my right leg and 'breathe out' on my left.

      It sounds like your getting improvements with what you're doing. Going up and down stairs and walking on inclines generally requires more strength in the glutes. You might need to focus on that next.

    I noticed myself walking pigeon-toed as a deliberate strategy in the past several years, because it reduced the sharp pain in my calves. Just recently, I've learned that the pain may have been sciatic nerve pain - and a strategy to deal with this has been helpful so far. So I guess that, combined with too much prolonged sitting, has really weakened my glutes, to the point where I can't stand up from a chair most of the time. But this strategy seems to be helping reduce that calf pain, so I'll keep on practising it!
    I do not want a hip replacement, so I'm motivated to do whatever helps, as long as I can figure out what works!

    This was such a blessing that these videos showed up on my CZcams account this morning. I usually watch Bob and Brad and they're helpful, too.
    I'm 55 with patella femoral syndrome, congenital condition due to shallow patella and track, and lax ligaments.
    I've had 2 knee surgeries: Lateral release and open ligament reconstruction. Both failed.
    I have bilateral bone on bone on the lateral sides with that side of the patella.
    I've done PT and injections over the years, and at the point nothing helps anymore.
    No problem walking or standing, just descending stairs, and the sitting down and standing up hurts like crazy! BUT ONLY ON THE KNEE THAT HAD THE SURGERY (no one can explain this, I want to know why? Scar tissue?)
    And that knee gets stiff while I sleep and it hurts to move it while in bed. I want to know why. Do I need to schedule an appointment via zoom?
    The outward pointing of the knees and toes does alleviate much of that pain, so I'm resolved to spend Thanksgiving Break learning the walking and stairs so hopefully I won't need to rely on elevators anymore. Feeling hopeful....

    This video is heaven to me. I've suffered painful walks, movement since the sudden onset of hip joint pain, which turned out to be OA diagnosis. I was skeptical about hip replacement, being moderate to high impact athletic, the Orthopedic said i am bone on bone and hip replacement is highly advised. Ive avoided it for four years in hopes of a better solution, and to my crying tearful eyes, I found your video. Im days away from THR, searching for a way out of the surgical procedure which will limit me for life, though they say I'll be walking in the same day after surgery, but there'll be so much maintenance, rehab, medication for pain, i prefer to do this method before regretting THR.
    Thank you so much for sharing these helpful tips! I did try it the moment i saw this, and i can do this without the stress of being subjected to the surgery I've been putting off. God send 🙏🏽

    It feels so weird trying to walk the way you suggest, but I believe it's beneficial. One day as I was walking, I grabbed and squeezed my greater trochanter and felt the glutes contracting. This resulted in a 25% reduction in pain!!!. Once I master your techniques, I should be good to go. Like you said once the muscles are stabilized around the hip joint, the more support you have in that area. THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR EXPERTISE!!🚶
