I even went to pick up my buddy at a prison in the Delta once. Took me 4 hours to get there from the Coast. The real Crossroads ain't the tourist sign spot. Thank you for this buddy. I fell in love with this song almost 40 yrs ago when I heard it for the first time. I have everything I need to play this song and with you breaking it down so cleanly it's no longer a mystery to me. Thanks to you and with some steady consistent practice I will be able to play it. Familiarizing myself with a slide is not a piece of cake but not nearly as scary as I thought. Having heard this song 100s of times over the years has definitely worked in my favor.

My first experience in trying to learn slide was a video by Arlin Roth, but the finger muting was too difficult for me to learn, so ended up listening a lot to Clapton- much easier. I play on an accoustic electric tuned to open G. and use finger pics on two fingers. I think you use all four fingers ? so, it will take a lot more work to learn, but this piece 'feelin bad blues' has always been my favourite. you do a great job with this. thanks mate

    Hi Jeremy, I've been looking for the TAB for this tune and your version is spot on. I'm new to the slide guitar. Is most of what you play using the slide with some notes played with fingers on the fret board? In the video it looks like your index finger is involved in playing the tune. Thank you in advance and keep up the good work.

    • @JeremyJames_studio
      @JeremyJames_studio  Před 2 lety

      Hi, it's mostly with the slide yeah. There's some fingers used in some of the turn around but not too much is fretted. Perhaps you noticed how I often follow the string being played with my index finger behind the slide. Playing slide on acoustic you kind of need this to damper the sympathetic vibrations and I have a habit of doing this - even though it's not so much of a problem on the electric. I'm not actually fretting behind the slide just touching the string to stop vibration. Is that what you're seeing?

You might even try flatwound strings like Ry, though I find the coated elixir strings give you something of that smoother quality. For the slide, anything glass is great. Thicker walls give you more sustain. The thin glass slides make it a little harder to play. Good luck 🙏

    Great lesson, and a great performance of the Feelin' Bad Blues. You are a great slide player, and nailed it well.
    I'm especially amazed by the sound you managed to produce. Very well done. I don't think (if I hear it correctly) you are using an echo or delay? But instead, besides the tremolo you are using the reverb of the princeton amp at atleast 12 o'clock? But my big question is: what kind of strings and which gauge did you use to complete your amazing slide sound? Are those 0.11's or 0.12s? And what branch/types? If 0.11s did you raise your action a little?
    What a lot of questions. Sorry for your time, but you really got me interested in your playing and sound ;) .

    • @JeremyJames_studio
      @JeremyJames_studio  Před 3 lety

      Yes you’re right no delays here. Just reverb from the princeton, probably about 3.5 from memory - with some extra verb via logic x in the that middle part.
      I was using 11s for this, eilxirs. Though if I had another crack at it, I’d go for 12s. That wound g really makes a big difference. I used 12s on my strat on my most recent upload (Dark end of the street, if you want to compare) and found slide easier with them. Bending is another story though!! Oh and yes, when you put a heavier gauge on your action will naturally come up a touch.

    • @SlidingAway
      @SlidingAway Před 3 lety +1

      @@JeremyJames_studio I think the 11s are essential for the sound achieved. The thicker the strings the more mellow and less loneliness the sound. It made you sound really perfect for this song. I use 13s myself and that sounds much fuller and rounder, and not suitable for this song.
      Did you raise the strings slightly when using 11s or do you have a very sensitive use of the slide? When I use 11s myself with normal string action I sometimes tend to lift the slide slightly (to avoid fretting) and that sometimes comes at the expense of sustain. I think your playing technique is excellent.
      Would you also like to send me the tabs: seasite1@hotmail.com? I would really appreciate that.

      @@SlidingAway Hi Johan - even though I used 11s, 12s would be even better I think. That wound third really helps. I'll try it again one day with heavier strings (and more practice!) I did bring the action up a touch on the guitar, but it was still fairly playable without slide. And yes, from New Zealand originally but in HK at the moment. Will email you the TAB now. Cheers

    Jus Frickin Beautiful!!! i love it!! Now..... jus one question.. i have a katana 50 amp.. i have so many specs and settings on it.. i cannot find the proper one to sound like your guitar.. tell me how the heck you get the strings to sound (especially the high E or D in this case... to sound like that?) i am lost Brother.. totally lost.. but blown away on the video!!! thank you sir!!

    • @JeremyJames_studio
      @JeremyJames_studio  Před 3 lety

      Hi Tony, what guitar are you using? For the katana, a fender-like setting should get you close if you have a guitar with single coils. Also what gauge strings are you using - it’s a bit hard to play this track without 11s or even 12s.

    • @tonystevenson7967
      @tonystevenson7967 Před 3 lety +1

      @@JeremyJames_studio i have an ole jackson and unfortunately, they are double coils, as for gauge - i dont recall as it has been sometime since i changed them.. so you are recommending 11's or 12's? ... if you tell me exactly what equipment you use (pedal, settings, amp, etc..) i will go out and find the gear.. i gotta play this exactly like you do.. thank you Mr. James.. ;)

    • @JeremyJames_studio
      @JeremyJames_studio  Před 3 lety

      Depending on your budget - I'd recommend something affordable like a squire tele to get you going. Does the job for sure! Go for at least 11s on it but if you're willing to say goodbye to bending strings for awhile, then the wound g on 12s is super for slide. The elixir electric 12s are great and the plastic coating helps with string noise.
      Not sure if your amp has effects or not but you'll need a tremolo pedal. Go for a bias style tremolo, something like the boss tr-2 is solid but there's cheaper and more expensive options. Let me know how you get on Tony!

      @JeremyJames_studio  Před 3 lety

      @@tonystevenson7967 It's a good set up for sure, but with the tech these days it's hard not to get a good sound. For example I uploaded a new video a week or so ago (Dark end of the street) and planned to use my amp but in the end I just put the strat through my HX stomp. So no amp and just the stomp via USB into my computer. So easy. You can be the judge on whether it came out OK(!?) - but I think it sounded pretty good.

      Hi Dave, just playing the k-line through a revival trem into a princeton reverb. could have used the princeton’s reverb but thought I better use the pedal seeing as I just bought it! Actually added a little compression which always makes slide a touch easier. No problems with the TAB. Drop your email here and I’ll send through to you. I will post a link to it, if you’d rather wait. Cheers
