  • On Monday, July 1, 2024, the New Mexico Department of Justice’s first-ever K9, Special Agent Joey, retired following six years of dedicated service. Special Agent Joey served on the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Division as an Electronic Scent Detection (ESD) K9 under the ownership and training of Special Agent in Charge ICAC Unit, Owen Pena. His exceptional skills as an ESD K9 supported ICAC’s investigations throughout New Mexico, making them more effective by finding vital pieces of evidence that were previously undetectable by his human colleagues.
