I was a an engineer in PTCL from 2002 to 2006. I saw the privatization of PTCL first hand. In 2001, ptcl had more than 60 billion rupees revenue out of which 20 billion was revenue. As part of the privatization, first govt imposed a contract management on PTCL that was given very high salaries, and their mission was to reduce manpower of ptcl, they did so by forcing the people to resign. For example, if someone wanted an unpaid leave for higher education he was not given a leave rather forced to resign. So many capable engineers left PTCL and went to work abroad or competitors. Currently ptcl management is a mess, its profits are dwindling and services are becoming worse. They are even closing services like evo 4G as they dont have money to renew spectrum license as they did many bad investment decisions in the past.
PTCL is still at profit last year PTCL growth was 24% in an economy where GDP growth was .5 % all the PTCL profits are spent on ufone which is in loss
Also Etisalat uses PTCL to take loans, Telenor aquisition is prime example of it the reason PTCL is shutting down its charji service is because ufone blaze will replace that Etisalat don't want to improve PTCL wireless communication reason they have 26% stake in PTCL and own 100% ufone they want to show government PTCL is in loss and government should sell whole 100 % to them
PTCL every year shows commendable growth but still losses are reported by Etisalat ever wondered why when even employees are not paid enough most of them were forced to leave
My father worked in PTCL for 25 years , he died of a cardiac arrest attack only because in human working conditions in PTCL , they downsize their company also removed the essential workers so the people who were left were forced to work like fucking mules. He worked 10 more years after the privatisation . did not get a raise in his grade or his salary

Bro, there is a point missed that permanent employees of ptcl have their basic salary freezed. Many of the employees have won their cases but still ptcl with the help of corrupt leadership is supporting them in this crime.
I worked with these employees for 8 years and I know how difficult life has become for them.
Just like privatisation of ipps and ptcl, no other privatization will help.
Actually it is difficult to earn from these departments instead of selling them. And our leaders have an easy option to beg instead of earning.

I live in Hayatabad Peshawar, & three PTCL properties within just 10 km radius around my house are worth billions each (Bangash Market phase 6, Bagh e Naran phase 3, & Board bazar Nasir Bagh road chowk).
There is an abandoned 660 marla (152,300 sqft) PIA property in Phase 2 Hayatabad adjacent to Ghani Bagh. The price of that property was around 1 crore per marla (6.6 billion for the whole property) 2 years ago. The existing building if renovated with just 2-3 million rupeea could generate a rent about 5-6 million a month easily.
Their property values in Islamabad worth around a billion dollar
62% shares are still with government of Pakistan. Analyze PTCL before and after privatization. I saw the change. Don't only criticize Etisalat. Apno nai loota ghero mai kahan dum tha, Kishti waha doobi hamari jahan pani kam tha..

I am former employee of ptcl and believe me highly qualified people are working there at very low salaries. Putting there maximum efforts every single day just to survive. After privatization ptcl was doomed & its buried now. No chances for growth with zero job benefits
Totally differ with your analysis as I worked in PTCL from 2004 - 2014 and was hired in early batches of Commercial Dept.
I had the honour of being team leader to set up the sales & distribution department, transformation of Customer Services Dept, launch of Wireless Phone + Wireless Broadband etc etc.
During those years, I had worked in HQ policy levels + Field Sales & Customer Services Side.
Summary - PTCL was a den of corruption & mismanagement and was earning artificial profits by changing extra high rate on domestic & International calls. Privatisation was a good step but it was not handled properly due to political + bureaucratic interferences.

I'd say that PTCL is doing fine competing in the market. I use PTCL in my residence in Islamabad.
Overall I'd say PTCL is one of the few govt institutions that are competing well in the local/global market. But if you are to be believed the money we are owed by the foreign firm should be paid to Pakistan on priority.

World call was owned by Salman Taseer and was sold to Etisalat on very high price just before the privatization of Ptcl. Later in ptcl deal they got the money back. So actually Salman Taseer made a lot of money indirectly from this deal.

PTCL privatisation is not the concern. Issue is unfair dealings & handlings from the all counterparts. In this deal government of Pakistan provided security & guarantee to the employees. A few pacts were signed in this regard. New management followed these rules for few years but lately reverseed & started to crush the employees by means of unfair methods. Still those cases are pending in all courts of justice for 14 years now. PTCL management is using/selling properties for billions of rupees now but not tending give employees a peny.
It think that Eon team might be receiving a lot of threats due to such analysis.
