  • In this video, we delve into the great vocals and record production of Paul McCartney and Wings on Live and Let Die! Let's check out this great James Bond Sound Track!
Paul McCartney and Wings - Live And Let Die - Isolated Vocals - Analysis and Singing Lesson
For “Live And Let Die” Paul McCartney collaborated with former Beatles producer George Martin to create the James Bond theme song which was also later redone by Guns n’ Roses.
I’d love to hear which version of the song you preferred and why. Please be sure to share with me in the comments!
Paul McCartney came up with the title as a play off the phrase “live and let live” and he apparently wrote the song in about 10 minutes after sitting at the piano and “screwing around”.
As we look at the instrumentation of the tune we’ll see Martin’s influence with the many left turns the song takes and we’ll talk about those great changes that the Beatles were known for.

THE BEST James Bond theme ever! The song really captured the theme of the movie. The fact that McCartney even put that Reggae-ish break in the song was brilliant since part of the movie took place in the Caribbean. The other string breakdown also captures the “The love interest” of Bond as well. So many Brilliant layers on this one.
I also think Duran Duran’s “View to a Kill” is one of the top Bond themes…probably second to this one.

The case of the death and replacement of Paul McCartney, in 1966, is much larger, and more complex, than the murder of Sharon Tate at the hands of the cult "The Family." This case is even more complex than the case of Robert Johnson and his "pact with Papa Legba." Paul McCartney was assassinated in 1966. Paul didn't die in an accident, he was assasinated. The correct interpretation of the original video clip "I am the walrus" reveals everything. The last scene of the original video is a demonic procession of witches leading the walrus (Paul) to the sacrifice (the scene is a metaphorical representation of what happened to Paul). Back in 76 when Paul McCartney and Wings opened up their US tour it was here in Fort Worth, Texas. They were here in town, later found out, for weeks rehearsing the show! The opening night was spectacular! Paul's voice was pristine and clear. Unlike in the movie and soundtrack where he had been overusing his voice, a little hoarseness in his vocals, the Fort Worth show has absolutely no wear or tear in his vocals! His was rested, no screaming or overuse from playing tour dates. In fact, I always thought that it should have been "Wings Over Fort Worth" instead of America in the movie and LP. I actually got a really good quality audience recording of this complete concert, and it's good recording, and my observations still hold as true, his vocals on that opening night were studio quality! I remember listing to album and movie and was so disappointed, I thought to myself, what happened to his voice, it's trashed compared to that first night. I feel fortunate that I was witness to the the best night of the tour.

Oh wow! I graduated hs in 1976 & college in 1980. And you're right...this is part of the soundtrack of my life. As I've mentioned before, I'm a diehard Kansas fan. To me, there's nothing better than their first 8 albums, including their double live Two for the Show. I am so blessed to have seen them many times in the 70s when Kerry Livgren was writing & orchestrating their epic progressive works.
If you ever figure out a way to go back to the 70s, please take me with you. Music, for the most part, in my opinion, has gone downhill since then.

This is definitely one of my favorite songs...
Guns and roses covered it and it was outstanding...this song changed how I would listen to music....from one to ten this was a ten

I was fortunate enough to be present for the big concert at Blockbuster amphitheater in Charlotte in '93. The one thing that actually stuck with me was the fact Linda's mike was up for the first part of the first tune. It shortly disappeared from the mix! Of course the show was great. I recorded it on VHS and got to watch it again when I got home.
