    Now, your test is by far the best comparison test I've seen so far. Well done. What you could have added is a noise insulation test where you take out the battery and see how much of the noise cancelling is due to the passive insulation and how much is due to the electronics...

      Have you tried them on a bus or train? I bought a pair after watching this review but I sent them back because the road bumps on the bus caused the noise cancelling to generate an annoying noise. AT sent me a new pair but they were the same.

    That's really a super review. I think I'll buy a set of QC15 because comfort and noise canceling is the two most important parameters for me.

    Very useful review. Good plain explanations. A guy brought in his Bose QC15's yesterday and let me use them for a couple hours. Wow! It was my first time with ANC of any kind. I'm kind of in the market for the next step up in over the ear headphones. I'm a programmer and I live/die by being able to block out people's loud talk in the office when I have to. I was looking at some ATH-M50x regular sound phones for about $150-$160. Now I'm considering up'ing it to ANC for a bit more $$ which I don't mind. I was blown away trying out the QC15's but I didn't like the proprietary cord as well. Your review is helping steer me to the ANC9. Thanks again.

  • @SomethingtoappeaseGoogle-1024

    I seriously need to purchase some noise cancelling head phones. Silence is golden, figuratively speaking of course.

    I've got the Bose QuietComfort15' s and understand your comments regarding how fragile they feel. It's an unfortunate trade off that is made up by the awesome noise cancelling feature. I tested a set in store and was amazed by how much sound they reduce. I had not heard of any other NC headphones that came anywhere near the Bose quality, but am glad to check your review comparing with ATH models of equal performance. Hopefully Bose will improve the strength of build quality and address the reliability reliance of batteries now they have some real competition. Good informative review for sure:)

    Awesome vid. Not sure if anyone else in the comments has mentioned it, but you don't *have* to use the proprietary headphone cable for the QC15's. I am actually using the cable from my Studio Beats in mine at the moment.

    • @HeadphoneReviewHQ
      @HeadphoneReviewHQ  Před 10 lety

      Interesting - so as long as the cable is small enough to fit in that hole, then I'd imagine it's perfect. Thanks for sharing!

    Bose has a good customer retention system as they offer a trade in program in store ex QC2 trade for Qc15 approximately $130 or you can get trade in value for other bose headphones. This program runs for pretty much all Bose products

    Gone through 5 Bose QC15 in past 3 to 4 years. One of them quit within 3 months. Always one side quits out. Treated them mint and one side eventually quits out. I have 10 different pairs of headphones and they are all perfect. Grados, Sennheisers, Acoustic Technica, AKG, and so on. Replaced 4 Bose through warranty each using the 1 year and one had to buy another for $80. IF the ACN9 is truly equal in Noise Cancelling, I will be picking that up. BOSE ARE LIGHT AND VERY CHEAP!

    I know this is very old, but you sold me on the ANC9's. Great reviews, a friendly presentation, in-depth and not biased to Bose (which most people tend to recommend. To be honest I recently tried the QC35's and was disappointed, so I'm kind of steering away from Bose and their ludicrous price tags.

    I have had the Audio Technica anc7b now for over 2 years. I just listen to audio hardware I have brought. The sound quality is excellent. But as I have handled them so many times the plastic has fallen apart on many places and the foam has popped out of the ear pads. The headphones are still in use as I superglue, tape the broken plastic back in. And as I use them everyday I have even wired a low ripple variable voltage regulator circuit I got of ebay for £2.50 so I can power the headphones from 5V USB on my PC and avoid the expense of buying ni-zn 1.6v AAA rechargeable batteries. These are very good headphones but over many hundreds of days of use I have not handled them with delicate hands so bits of plastic has failed.

  • @juanpaulr

    Bose batteries is not a big deal they are small and easy to swap rather than recharging. The noise canceling everyone knows is important to most who want noise canceling. The sound quality on the Bose for an average listener, like myself is great. Its just so relaxing when I am at home. I can't complain like the Q15s. They can only get better from there

    I’ve recently got my anc9's and i am very pleased with them except for the fact that, when i am walking (like every time i take a step) or driving, when i hit even a small bump on the road they seem to produce a low bassy sort of sound, but only in the left ear cup. It makes them almost unlistenable. Its a very precise low end sound, almost like a heartbeat, its difficult to explain. It sound like there might be something lose in the earcup, which is then somehow amplified when the noise canceling is active. Furthermore, when i turn on the noise canceling feature (which is obviously why i bought the headphones) there seems to be a very loud hiss. It will drown out when i play a song, but it has to be turned up considerable before i dont notice it and in-between songs it is very noticeable (even when i am driving)

    TBH the best headphones are Bose QC-15 hands down, Noise Canceling is better. Although they need a battery, which is because they can only play good quality audio, if price isn't an issue go for Bose are your revolutionary answer. All you need is to buy a pack of AAA's and keep a battery every where your go.

    Great review. Finally someone address that Bose are not good sounding devices. Once I had to decide between the Bose Q25 and Plantronics Backbeat Pro and I finally decide for the Plantronics because of sound and functionality. The downside is that Plantronics are a lot heavier (340 gr), so I'm looking for something better in terms of sound quality and comfort and I starting to think that ANC9 as an interesting option. I already know how they sound because of studio work, but I never tried the AT noise cancelling system. If you ever try the Backbeat Pro let me know if the ANC9 are better. Thanks!

    Hi, you mentioned the Bose AE2 are way better then QC15 on same sound level in all spectrum. How about comparing AE2 to the other two ANC's? What difference do you hear?
    I did the simple test among 5 different headphones and I listened to the "Robin Thicke - Blurred Lines" on Samsung S3 with the setting "Classic" on the player (best sound). "Normal" setting was not enough and the "rock" or "pop" were to annoying. As I said it was just simple test.

    I'm thinking of going with the ANC 9's because I'm more of a bass heavy guy, mostly listing to hip hop/ rap and edm/dubstep... question is how good do you think the noise canceling would be with a lawn mower and snowblower?? it seems these wouldn't be the best cans for outside elements but I work at best buy and get good deals on protection plans so i should be good with that =]

    @dstreamer Před 10 lety

    Hi Alan, I think I figured out why I found the m50 uncomfortable. I tend to like around ear headphones instead of over ear ( as over ear are pressing against your ears and aren't comfortable for me )
    So which around ear headphones would you recommend under 300$
    I've shortlisted the Bose ae2 qc15 and audio technica anc7b
    But to be honest I'm not keen to spend above 200$ unless its really worth it
    And I've heard the noise cancelling headphones tend to compromise on sound quality. Is this true
    Can you recommend some other options to me ? Around ear
    I want crisp sound with punchy bass but not over bearing
    Thanks again and great work ! :)

  • @Shabtai1024
    @Shabtai1024 Před 10 lety

  • @dstreamer
    @dstreamer Před 10 lety

    Hi Alan, I popped a question earlier to you regarding which headphones I should get and mentioned my priorities were clean punchy bass and crisp audio quality.
    Options were the qc15 anc7 and ath m50
    You and everyone worldwide recommended the ath m50's
    I got em, the sound quality is great but I don't find them comfortable :(
    Maybe my heads too big, they start getting hot, tight on my head and uncomfortable within 10-20 minutes of wearing them
    I have found someone with the anc7 who is willing to exchange. I found them to be super comfy.
    I tried them, but I did so without batteries so the audio quality wasn't impressive.
    So I guess my question is this, should i go for the anc7 ( no money extra ) or go for the qc15 whrre ill probably end up paying 100 more dollars or so ( if i get them used )
    Given my priories in studio preference stated above
    I've more or less decided to sell my only 5 times used m50's due to lack of comfort.
    Or is there any other headphone in the mould or type/shape of the QC or anc, that you can recommend. Because I find them mighty comfortable ! Especially for extended periods of wear :D
    As always great videos and that k you so much ! :)
    Appreciate the help Alan

      unonice I have used the QC20 for 2 months now, on a daily basis. I bought them locally second hand unused for 180CAD. They have much better features than the qc15. First off, the build quality is excellent, I have accidentally dipped it into vinegar, water, coke (because the noise cancelling is too quite lol), and still worked fine. It is rechargeable, lasting pretty long...and when you turn on NC, the tone just changes to a more crisp sound. Maybe there's a small amp in the processing unit. The microphone is also really good on that one. The tip fits comfortably without thrusting into your ear canal, yet they provide better sound isolation on their own better than some of the foam ones, while being much more comfortable. The downside though, is as what all Bose product lacks, sound quality. It is much worse than my ATH M50, a little bit worse than my Shure Ie220, and on the same level/kind of better when turned on compared with my klipsch s4....But those are just my personal experiences. My advice is , if you see a good deal ,and you are looking for a noise cancelling earbud, get those, they are the best that suits the two requirements. BTW I also had Pheaton bluetooth NC stereo headphones, much worse sound..but it's bluetooth so it's still awesome.

    After watching some of your other reviews I went out and purchased the ath-m50's which quickly became my favorite headphones. I just wish that they had a little bit more bass. So how do the anc9's compare to my m50's (just in sound quailty). Or do you think I should go with something like the solid bass ws99's. I'm not concerned with the noise cancelation.

      Sound quality-wise the ANC9's are very similar to the M50's but with more bass. One thing I forgot to mention in my review is a slight hiss that is really only audible when the volume is completely down with the noise canceling on. The ANC-9's do have a stronger bass but I wouldn't say it's 2x that of the M50's. I've not heard the WS99's so it's impossible to say.

    When it comes to headphone speaker reliability the QC15 headphones in my mind are not fit-for-purpose.
    Many QC15 and QC25 fans get issues with the right-hand headphone speaker cutting in and out, and whilst there are many CZcams out there explaining the easy fixes, there may well come a time when even this stops working and fixing it yourself is not an option.
    "It's fixable but we want you to Trade It In or be Forced to Throw It Away unable to find a reliable bonefide third-party repair service for these top-of-the-range headphones which are fully working except for the right-hand headphone speaker".
    Bose: "Come spend £279.00 with us and when out-of-warranty, regardless of age, fixable or not, spend another £199 on our trade-in deal. Repeat again the next time your headphones fail out-of-warranty"
    Never fear. I have found a repair service that most definitely will look at fixing them at a very reasonable price. No need to go for that expensive trade-in deal unless they really are not fixable.
    UK based. They may well handle which ever country you are otherwise search the internet for a similar third-party repair service for your country.

    £41.90: £18.20 headphone replacement driver, £16.80 labour, £6.90 shipping and handling. 5-stars out of 5-stars. 10-stars out of 10-stars. I'd give more stars if I could. Most definitely the best option out there for repairing your Bose QC15 and Bose QC25.

    bose quiet confort 15 . Dont buy, they ARE fragile. Very fragile. When I went to use them a few days ago, the plastic just above the Y swivel on the right side broke apart. This happened just picking them up and putting them on my head with normal force. Is this what you call a quality product? What do I do now? The $139.95 headphones are completely useless!
    So, I contacted Bose Support and here's what they told me: "The date of purchase indicates that your Bose(R) Around-Ear headphones are no longer covered by the warranty. The headphones are not factory or user-serviceable. You may trade your Around-Ear headphones for a brand new set for $60".
    Why would I invest any more cash into a product that obviously has a poor build quality. After searching the internet, I found many other people who had the same problem with these headphones. This has been going on for years and Bose has not corrected the problem!.
