My wife and i recently moved to Switzerland, au Lausanne to be exact. I’m currently in an intensive cour de Francais and to say it’s kicking my butt would be an understatement. Imparfait et passé composé is a killer. Hearing it explained in French is tres difficile especially as i am still learning French words. Hearing it here with English subtext, although still hard, makes it somewhat easier to comprend. Merci beaucoup Alexa. I’ll be listening to this explanation again.

I met this friend at 4:00 in front of the station. We ate ice cream and walked in the forest, as we used to.

Here's what my teacher taught us.
1.) Make the verb its nous form
2.) Remove the -ons
Then plug in
je(') ais
tu ais
il/elle/on ait
nous ions
vous iez
ils/elles aient
Etre's nous form is sommes so it's an irregular verb. Its radical would be :ET
so Et ais
Etais
Etait
Etions
Etiez
Etaient
Agreed! "Etre" is highly irregular for the imparfait though, so I just google conjugation lists for that verb.
If anyone has a better solution/method, that would be much appreciated. :)
In être form it's
étais
Était
Était.....
And so on....
As you haven't put the accent it could get wrong... 🙂💗

Or 'wasted', but 'ted was' helps you remember that it's imparfait bc of the 'was' part.

As a kid I never understood what "Imperfekt" was about, mais maintenant I know that it means "im" + "Perfekt", meaning (in German) "in the past"
Btw "im" stands for "in the" (or in German "in dem") and is used in front of of a masculine/neutral noun.
