Stellaris, literary having mega shipyard for several years: yeah, about that...

@@TheArklyte
Thats just a mega shipyard a starforge is what happens when a matter decompressor and a mega shipyard have a baby with the capabilities of both (except the matter decompressor instead makes alloys).
The biggest part of this is how it doesn't use any resources (iron, chromium) while the production is set to conversion. So even though 9,000 factories on heavy tanks consumes 10 billion chromium, as soon as you click that magic conversion button they suddenly use 0 chromium. This means you only need the resources to support you 1 unit per day production.
Yup. Because the game treats it as if you've got a million tanks all ready to be "converted" and thus you wouldn't need any extra chromium or steel or anything, the tanks are actually being fabricated out of magic dust and the power of friendship or some shit. When you're converting 10 tanks per day and you have a stockpile of 20, it'll remove 10 from the stockpile for the two days, but here it gives the full production value despite not having the full quota to convert from.
I'd be interested in seeing if this is worthwhile to do with resource-starved countries. Like building 2 T1 fighters a day, but then have a line of factories converting those into 2 T2/T3 fighters per day also in order to not trade away your whole economy. This exploit is going to be patched, so the multiplying equipment thing won't last. It's likely less efficient when it comes to mil production, but the upshot is you'll be saving civs that would be used for trading, so those can be used for building whatever else is needed.
I haven't done conversions in awhile, but I think converting a resource-cheap equipment into something that takes more resources to make still costs 0, but I might be wrong. If it does cost something, obviously this is a bad strat that's just gonna make mils inefficient.
@@NicholasW943 Nah, you still have to pay the resource difference. So if Equipment A costs 1 steel 1 aluminum, and Equipment B costs 1 steel 2 aluminum, converting will cost 1 aluminum.
Also, keep in mind you cannot "convert up". They have to be based on the same platform. So, for tanks you can convert 1941 medium design A into 1941 medium design B, but you can't then design a new 1943 medium design and convert them up into it. For planes, if you have a stockpile of 1940 fighters you can spend XP to upgrade range or engine or whatever and then convert your stockpile into upgraded 1940 fighters but once you research 1944 fighters you cannot convert into those.
Thus, conversion has been kind of a forgotten ability that many people don't use much if ever. Most of the time you're better off just making new equipment. In the case of planes, it's almost always better to have new planes added onto your existing stockpile instead of trying to improve the ones you've got (especially since you can't turn those interwar fighters into anything useful). For armor, the differences in tech improvements are so stark that you're better off leaving the old models behind instead of continually improving upon e.g. light tank 1 hulls. Then, you've got things like artillery pieces and infantry equipment which you can never upgrade since they're all separate models themselves.
@@Schmeethe88 Thanks for the info. That's a lot of stuff I didn't know about. Shame conversion works that way.
I think the reason people used to think the tech was for converting civvies to mils and vice was because it used to be called "factory conversion speed"
Makes sense
Damn even as a self proclaimed HOI4 “veteran” I never knew that
For the automation part, you don't need to have both production lines producing 1 tank per day. You literally only need to have 1 of the 2nd decommissioned tank in stockpile. Just build one tank then delete the production order. Then make sure that tank will never be used in any templates.
Another tip/thing to look out for is when you declare war your stability will go down, meaning you might not be producing more than 1 tank per day on the decommissioned template. If production goes down below 1 per day the automation will stop. So pause after war is declared and assign more factories until you are again making 1 per day.

Hang on conversion tech speeds up refits? P.S. I checked it doesn't
Lesson learnt: Heterosexual tank reproduction is more efficient than tank mitosis
There seems to be a cap on how much conversion bonus you can have before the number rolls to negative.
I tried this as the Soviet Union and one of the national focuses adds a conversion bonus. After the focus conversion bonus, and the two tech tree bonuses, the number of tanks being produced rolled over into the negative.
One step beyond
yep true. I found out its better not to research Advance Equipment Konversion, then it worked for me again
That would make sense if they're implementing it as a cost modifier rather than a speed modifier. Positive production divided by negative cost gives you a negative number.

@@JohnAnber but you waste a lot of time with focuses when you could have taken out all of Europe by then while focusing on economy. Also no risks of having the USA joining the allies if the allies don?xt exist anymore by 1940
@@albusnightspring8057 assuming all of it is in single player, the player is always strong enough to fight on both fronts also the soviets are weak by then. Also the US will join the allies in '41 unless you stop the Japanese from doing pearl harbor.

The Tank Exploit is extremly viable with Airplanes because the resources needed equal zero. It means if done properly you can have an high amount of planes for just for no rubber and no aluminium.
:not zero but close to none, so in my try I had 15 airplanes per day for only 3 rubber and 8 aluminium
For those 15 planes you could have 800 tanks. Not exactly like for like
@@FeedbackIRL worth it if you want planes though
If I wanted tanks I'd be converting tanks
So the conversion calculation just checks for any amount of decommissioned stockpile, not that you have enough decomissioned stockpile. Since you can't have a negative amount of equipment it breaks.
Thanks for the video Dave! I tried this and I didn’t understand how it worked for people but I see now it was because I upgraded the new variant like the game intended.
You're welcome!
@@FeedbackIRLthe question is do you need no step back for it to work?
@@wata33czz yes
The thing you gotta remember is that CONVERTING DOESNT USE RESOURCES
So not only are you making more planes, you also don’t need to buy the rubber for 100 factories
Thanks for the follow up on planes! I asked on the last video about this and you demonstrated it in this video. I appreciate it!
Watch the video. I tested it with planes
I know! That’s why I said thanks!
Tank Hyperinflation
Zimbabwe tanks
You don't have to produce 1/day of both old models, just the top one. The bottom one you just have to have 1 tank in stockpile. Also it often Buggs with same exact tank so add something cheap like armored skirts or mg, to make price difference, and you'll be producing "Mice" at cost of .5 pert unit..
Just tried this out of boredom. Am making 900 amphibious tanks a day and 800 modern tanks. Crazy!
did this last week with portugal, was producing something like 1000 modern tanks with cast armor, slope max armor a day,
you and dankus are my fav hoi4 players. Both brilliant in different ways
So I thought that the way this bug works is the following:
Since conversion is cheaper your "conversion" output will be higher than production output in a single day. And thats the trick... Per day.
The game tracks production each tick/day... So even if you have, let's say, 5 outdated tanks available that day to convert, the theoretical conversion output is 12 tanks with the amount of factories you assigned to the line.
So for example, you could have 1 super heavy tank stockpiled and designating it as outdated, and create a conversion line with 150 factories assigned. In that case, even if u have only 1 tank to convert the output of the conversion line will be much higher than 1/day, let's say 50... So on that day you will convert 1 and produce 49 super heavies out of thin air.
This is probably because bad paradox coding.
when is it not paradox coding?
I honestly think the answer is far more simple and straightforward: the production output of the "upgraded" tank doesn't check the stockpile of the "obsolete" tanks at all. It simply checks if there is 1 or more obsolete tanks to upgrade. If yes, do full production of upgraded and deduct production that from obsolete tanks. Most likely just nobody thought about what happens if somebody's specifically trying to abuse that lack of a check.
@@barbariandude While I'm certain that's absolutely correct, I'm more shocked that anyone at Paradox thought that no one would abuse anything available to them. Like, every mainline Paradox game has or had exploits that get blown open the second they're known. Like North Korea mode in CK2/3 or the various versions of fast revoke in EU4 (ranging from reasonably complicated to embarrassing trivial and not really an exploit and just a lot of oversights like in 1.30.0). They should just assume that if there's an exploit that someone will find it.

Maybe I'm stupid, but I don't think I've seen another video explain this as well as you have. Thank you so much.
4:23 You are guilty of that as well. Looking back at your factory conversion video for one of the US achievements (having 300 mils), I'm glad Paradox fixed the icon.
If you play around with the tank tags (rabbit, turtle etc) you can make it so your divisions don’t use the “old tanks” allowing you to go into tank deficit and still use this exploit.
The Benefit of using that for planes is in the resources, you won't need to import Rubber and Aluminum to make them!
FeedBackGaming #1! Totally love your channels and all the HOI4 content in it! Thank you a million!

Hi feedback gaming thx for the vid you send out to the community, and I accidentally found that glitch out a few weeks ago when I was playing as the UK I thought it was a bug or my game was corrupted because I didn't need to keep pressing the convert button. Turns out the uk already have an old model for the light tank and I just made another upgrade model.but what was weird is that you had to use 3 production line instead of 2 as I found out that you can just produce B tank and C tank instead of all 3. Note. You may need a small stockpile of A tanks to pull this out hope. note.again this might not work but if it does well it will do little at the end unless you are a small Nation. That's it cheers from the other side of the world
If only German could convert exploit fuel for all those tanks
It would probably be more useful for a country with a lot of oil, such as Romania or Russia.
Its really nice that I currently cant play hoi4 since im on holiday for 2 weeks and then when I get back its probably fixed or something
I don't really mind who "released it first" its hilarious. Its funny spawning an unlimited number of heavy tank divisions as the soviets or china and just steam rolling my friends in friendly multiplayer games while my planes blot out the sun

Hahah oh well
I once had a glitch where it was showing me to convert tanks that i was producing to the ones i was producing. I know ots confusing but basically i had only one assembly line of tanks and it displayed to convert and the same infi tank glitch was happening.
dave i found out that
horse division that you you use to garrison
can use the ww1 guns (ww1 guns are so cheap i think it use 1 steel i guess )
and its just effective as cavalry with the 1942 guns
because it doesn’t matter
so when i occupy a big fat chunk of land and i dont have that much industry to suppress the locals
i just assign 5 mils to ww1 guns
and you can go to the equipment of the division and ban the new variants of guns and only assign the ww1 guns
so your frontline division can get the best quality of guns
Only downside is extra micro because you have an extra equiptment type

just did this. it was saying I was producing 500 per day but I was wasn't gaining any for my reinforcements. anything I could be doing wrong?
Shouldnt conversion like turn one kind of a tank into another?
I thought that the production per day in conversion line just shows how many equipment is converted rather than PRODUCED.
So it actually turns out you don't need 2 production lines making 1 tank a day for the automation to work. You just need to have 1 additional outdated tank in your stockpile and beause the game can only convert 1 type of tank at a time as long as you have 1 other outdated tank to convert it'll see there's more to convert and wont turn off conversion but by the time the next day ticks over the 1 outdated tank your making will be made and it'll automatically convert that one before converting the other one so you can save some military factories, not that you need to with a tank printer, but its more useful with expensive tanks that you'd need like 10 factories to make 1 a day.
Watch the whole video bud
What happens if you convert from an unmodified mechanized to a mechanized with the production cost reduction mod?
And now its ruined, they will patch it now, as they did with heavy flames and support recon...... (not to mention the OP Polish industry focuses and naval production)

@@FeedbackIRL truly, our hoi4 saviour.
If you have 1 unit of tank A in storage and you start to convert tank C from tank B, and you produce tank B more than 1 per day, then the whole conversion process will become automatic, you don't need to click to covert every single day.

holy cow i got to try this
here i'm thinking whether it would be possible to do this with planes in MP where you lend lease decommissioned license copies to someone
Load up. give it a try. My instincts say NOPE
You sir are a gentleman
Unfortunately it becomes kind of tricky if you have different tank variants in production and doing the glitch (for example heavy tank + heavy flame tank + heavy tank artillery) you have no way to tell your production line what to convert
You don't do different tank variants PEROID. Best method is to purge old models and start over
@@FeedbackIRL it's for the flame tanks on infantry. And higher Anti-air on tanks
TBH you don't need dupe flamers seeing as you need so few per division. This exploit works better for tank battlions
Gonna use the two weeks pdx is on vacation to get some of the really stupid achievments
Alright happy to report that the Brits have conqured the world and every Russian achievement except the Romanov one is now done
Here's the thing, its good if you need some expensive tanks making, but useless because everything needs fuel.
What sucks about life is everything needs money
with the new plane designer, would it work better now?
If you have 3 tanks that are all the exact same design let’s call them a b and c. Decommission a and b and produce one of tank A to have in stock pile then set up line b to produce 1 tank per day. set up line c with all the extra factories. every day it will consume one of tank b but will leave the stockpiled tank A untouched since it only converts from one design at a time. This means you won’t have to click the “convert from stockpile” button everyday as the game will always have a tank ready to convert allowing you to do other things while you crank out thousands of tanks. Just make sure that your tank divisions only use tank c other wise you will have to keep clicking the button.
Wrote this before finishing the video didn’t know he would actually show this Lol
Another case of "I didn't watch the whole video"
I’ve just tried doing it but when I did the conversion 2 tech and I pressed the conversion button the production just go to -0.00
40 width 120 heavy tonks are incoming
Maybe I'll try doing heavy tank only USSR again.

would this work for naval? make crap ship and refit it with better modules after with naval refit speed buff from military spirit.
No you can't convert ships you refit ships
good question!
I’m new to the game, does this still work and can it work not using any DLCs?
Fuel may be low but we up 💯
when i was doing the original method earlier it worked but after while, evertime i clicked convert the production went to 0.00 tanks per day and wouldnt convert :/
any idea why?
Integer overflow would be my guess?
Imagine a mod where the AI tried there damn best to use exploits like this to their advantage.
I love Dave, but he did drop the balls on this one, as this is not the best method to automate the exploit. Happy to see follow exploiters pointing out tho, I posted a detailed guide under Dave's previous tank exploit video and many others here posted too, so I'll not go too into it. TLDR ver is you dont need a second 1/day production, you just need at least 1 stocked piled 2nd old template to not break the conversion.
I want to clear few things behind the exploit Dave talked about in the video:
1. So the exploit can been seen as two parts, one is the normal conversion trick: producing 1/day and converting the 1 to many, second part is tank conversion cost, which is the spicy part. It is what really makes the tank exploit works, the very reason why this does not work for planes and mechanized.
2. The frist part which is the traditional conversion exploit has been in the game for a while, it has always been used to squeeze bit of the tech bonus out and to save resources (something dave didn't point out in the video, but you essentially will only ever need 1/day production amount of resources with this first part of exploit).
3, for the second part, after the recent cnoversion rework, tank's conversion cost is significantly lower than its original production cost, this second part means by converting you are essentially reducing the tank production cost to converting cost, netting you huge boost.
4. This is why other convertable equipment do not work in the same way, as their conversion cost is same as their production cost, so you can only get the benefits from the first part of the exploit.
5. What really makes this exploit insane as demo by Dave in the video with light tanks, is currently the conversion tech also further reduces tanks conversion cost. THIS IS HUGE, because it has the potentiall to reduce the conversion cost into tens of(normal exploit) -> hundres of (gigachad exploit).
6. to expand it even bit further, the conversion cost of tanks has a base amount derived from the tank chasis, heavier means greater base conversion cost, thus making some of tanks unable to archive the gigachad level of exploit. Accroding to my test heavy tanks II already surpass the limit.
Got an example screenshot?

You can see the setup and I was also using it for mechanized
One detail I didnt mentioned in the orignal posts, as can be seen in the screeshot, there is this "Order of conversion", so the stockpile template has to be the second in line in order to trick the system correctly.
