I met Ron Keel a few years ago for a fundraiser for his wife. It was one of the most beautiful performances I've ever seen. During his set, he called his wife at home and played to her - not the audience, but to her. He focused on her the entire time. Never once did he look at the audience. Honestly it dragged out a few teardrops out of me. It was so lovely and sincere (she was going through cancer treatments at the time.) Later that night after his set I went up to him to share my thoughts. And to empty my pockets - I gave him - literally- every dollar and cent I had on me. He thanked me, gave each a bro hug, and took some pictures together. I told him I'll pray for her. I heard she was doing better. I'm glad. Fuck cancer!

I love it when you're explaining what's happening in the music video. You're not even being ironic, sarcastic or condescending. It's a dry and honest play by play commentary... Yet somehow it's fcking hilarious. "While Keel is off playing in their secret location the kid escapes the agents with the timely help of a local anti authority biker gang." Don't know why this cracks me up so much lol

Then we made many road trips to see them through the early 2000's and still travel to see him whenever we can. It's nice to see the Iron Horse era getting some exposure. The Iron Horse shows usually were two long sets with the Iron Horse songs, some good heavy classic rock type covers and a half dozen Keel songs.

Mt Ron keel used to go to his house to drop off his album cover artwork and also helped pressed his records back then when vinyl existed. I tried calling Wayne the owner if Rockaway records in silverlake CA but haven't heard anything save had a one legged dog at the time called petula and ran his business out if his garage. Please can you ask Mr Ron if he heard anything and I wish to get in contact with Mr Richards to re-establish contact with him you can verify anything I've said by asking Ron THANK you

Loved Keel. Speed Demon is on my muscle car mix which I play in my restored ‘74 Challenger. Ron’s vocals always kicked ass! Still trying to wrap my head around him doing country music today. That voice was made for metal!

Greg Chaisson (Kenny’s older brother) told me in 1987 that working with Gene Simmons was miserable. It was in the context of my being a huge KISS fan and working with one of Greg’s friends. When I asked him why, he said Simmons’ response to conflict about production techniques was always the same: “Who’s the millionaire here?” Greg has some great rock ‘n roll stories of his own (Badlands with Jake E. Lee, auditioning for Ozzy’s band, and of course the Keel experience). You should look him up.

Wow, can’t say I’m surprised! Always interesting to hear first hand stories of what an ego Gene was/is. I know Greg was in a very late version of Steeler but will look up his other stuff for sure.

Again on of my suggestions… and Ron has recently gone back to his Roots, sold all the expensive automobiles, drives a beat-up old pick-up truck and has released a couple of solid country records…
“Lay down the law” and “Keel” are still in my rotation… my favourites include “The Right to rock”, “Speed Demon”, “Metal generation” and “if love is a crime (I wanna be convicted)
I’m almost certain Yngwie Malmsteen might have been in Steeler, I mean he was also in Alcatrazz in 83.
    Dang it, I’m a little late 😂😂😂

Keel was outside my area of interest but once again, another super fun retrospective! I knew Keel had returned to his country/southern roots but hadn't heard any of that material before. His voice really genuinely works for that style, especially getting way from the 80s falsettos and shrieks. Good for him for carving a unique path from 80s hard rock to current times.
