- After an hour of searching the barrio of Rímac for something to eat, I finally found a restaurant that could serve me some good local food from Lima!
No Anticuchos though!
Does Peru live up to it's gastronomic hype?
I thought I would go have a look and take you guys with me to find out.
Enjoy!
The man in the restaurant was very kind, provided great service and even offered Kurt a ride back to in his hotel so he wouldn’t risk getting robbed. The world could use more people like him.

When I was living in Argentina the take-away restaurant around the corner was run by a Peruvian family. They were great people. I always bought so much of their Chaufa 😂. When they found out I was leaving the country, they gave me the family recipe for Chaufa and I still make it to this day.

So…..what’s the recipe? 🫣
Can we get the recipe?
Are you gonna gatekeep the recipe? 🤨

Hi Kurt, I'll tell you a bit about the latin american spanish (from Mexico to Argentina)
The word POCO, is interpreted in latin america as "some" and in some cases "a lot", however UN POQUITO, is interpreted as "a little" Example: The lady asked: Quiere un POCO de arroz? and she served you a normal serve. When you asked for just a little bit of ceviche, you should have said UN POQUITO de ceviche.
Also when it comes to food serves, if you want half only, it is best to use the word MITAD. Your spanish is very good by the way.
Cheers and good travels.

Kurt, hey, Peruvian subscriber here, love every one of your videos. You know, there are some famous influencers in Peru that don't recommend what you do, being the kind of tourist that you are, going to the deepest local part of town. I think that's really amazing and proves that all my Lima, not only the "modern" and "rich" Lima, is worth visiting. Thank you for being such a wonderful person and I hope you return soon! Cheers dude!

Some of the most ghetto places have the most humblest and nice people don’t judge a book by it’s cover
yeah, but it's a risk/reward thing. Odds of you finding good in a brazilian ghetto before you get robbed are practically nill
@@rockytem2709 That's Peru, not brazil
@@Colouh I was making an example. I don't know enough about peru to talk about it.
@@rockytem2709 Also Lima has some areas where you don't want to go as a tourist, just like any megacity (people living in poor areas don't like it when rich people come to watch them), you see that right. If you end up in a poor area, be willing to pay someone to get you out of there again and get the kids something. Keep in mind that also a lot of people won't hesitate if they find a chance to make an extra dollar on you, it's a bit part of the game. In this video, the taxi driver asked one sol, giving ten is just too much: just give three to five max for a normal ride. Probably this man knew that asking less would give him more, they know people, but it might be considered as an insult. Peruvians are very kind and helpful, they will treat you with respect and to stay here is very safe in general. The food is pretty good, but it's not my taste (I don't like lemon and I don't like Amazon river fish too much, but more sea fish). I've been living in Tarapoto for almost 1,5 years now, it's an amazing and life changing experience.

@@syindrome So, after watching kurt I'd love to go and everyone keeps mentioning being robbed. My question is will these "thugs" just stab you and take what they want or mainly threaten you ?
@@XplayPictures Normal tourist places are not dangerous in Peru, although pickpocketing may happen as well as getting your phone snatched out of your hands. In non tourist areas I've had friends mobbed by groups of robbers, threatened with knifes or guns, and have seen many news reports where people get stabbed or shot when they were being robbed of their phone or some small amount of cash. Quick kidnappings are also common where a person is ambushed by in a 'micro' or 'collectivo' and taken to an ATM to empty their accounts. Also my parents were once almost kidnapped by people pretending to be the police but the neighbors came out en masse and saved them. During Christmas time car robberies are also very common near my house where about three per month would happen on my block (before pandemic): a car full of armed thugs would pull up just as someone is parking and take the car. I've also had to hide behind trees as whole groups of people just hanging out in a park were robbed at gun point by thugs.

I appreciate you!
Me Too! 😁🤩🙌
Reminds me of Ice Poseidon before he became a clown. Addicted to this chill simple style.
Kurt just love ure videos man ure not afraid of anything cheers.🍺🍺👍
17:41 Dude seing you with you camera like that and open window gave me anxiety lol I lived 7 years in Peru and i was in the exact same scenario but with the window only slighly open, but still someone tried to grab my phone (unsuccessfully). Youre pretty brave/bold :D maybe always get some safety tips before going to a dangerous zone!
I subscribed! Great content! And a nice throwback for me :)
We need a Kurt Caz origin story! Like how you came to be traveling full time, what you did before you travelled, etc
His dad who I think passed sadly was a traveler so Kurt was inspired by him and before he traveled he dropped out of school and pursued his dream I’m pretty sure that’s the whole thing if I’m correct

Te felicito que muestres al mundo nuestras comidas, es un orgullo para el peru.Por favor digo a mi pais: POR FAVOR CUIDEMOS A LOS TURISTAS Y NO LOS HAGAMOS DAÑO.
Eats ceviche, gives thumbs up..
“Yeah, so I’m not a fan of the ceviche. It tastes like raw fish. Very fishy”
😂😂😂😂😂
I didn’t know how bad I needed that laugh. Good on you for going into the discomfort of immersing yourself in new cultures and trying food items out of your comfort zone. Thanks for the content🤙
Seeing you go through a near death experience on account of eating raw fish is so extremely entertaining 😂
glad to see you are at least trying it. respects to you. I seen another youtuber from the uk I think and he went to mexico and literally only ate ice creams, chips and soda diet. his argument was that he didnt know how clean the food was. I lost complete respect from him for that
Wooow!!
Yeah, that Simon guy that I think you're talking about is a disrespectful irritating tit.
Simon Wilson … 😂😂 king of McDonald’s
That dude really missed out. Mexico has the best food on the planet.
Sounds like Simon Wilson, this prick from Wales who only eats McDonald's and Subway everywhere he goes
8:03 When your trying to be super polite and explain why you don't want alot of food, thinking you have done a great job, and in Reality the guy thinks you told him to clean the shit off the floor, hahaha so funny both with totally different perspectives
Poor guy, he must have felt so embarrassed 😭😭😭😭 Peruvians are so gentle, there’s a huge difference with Colombians for example.
This is actually really funny 😅😅
🤣🤣 yeah .

Very kind of you to give Roberto, the driver, ten soles. Thank you for coming to Peru and helping our people.
Yes. It was so nice. Roberto could have purchased a 1,5 liter Inca Cola for all his family. 🤠
I love how raw you videos !
Kurt, you are an inspiration for travel and more!!!
YAH keep you safe and well!!!!!
Blessings,
Mike :)
I never thought I'd look forward to watching a travel vlog until I found this channel.
Appreciate that

I use your videos to help me learn my Spanish. Listening to how the words are applied in a real world situations helps tremendously! Love your videos Kurt! Thx
Just be aware he uses vocabulary like a gringo, it's not correct grammar
Thank you for the English subtitles. Great contents and great people.
Kurt, thank you for showing the food of my country and props to you for trying ceviche in spite of not liking fish. If you like meat lomo saltado and Seco de carne (cordero) are amazing and you can't leave Peru without trying "Pachamanca" that will blow your mind!
Kurt has absolute balls of steel there's not many places this man won't go to provide us with amazing content 👏
Kurt and Bald and Bankrupt are the only two channels I look forward to viewing - both have similar approaches.
No balls of steel for filming it when u have a camera you become a target and he doesn't know what's around the next corner I'd like too see you carry on filming there after being warned multiple times

The Causa Rellena looked interesting! I have never seen that dish before. I thought they were serving you dessert first.
We call it "entrada" which means "entry dish". Normally it is served as appetizer while you wait for the main dish 😉
It is a starter
My face was glowing the entire time I saw you eating lol. I love mi Peru ❤️❤️❤️❤️ i miss it so muchhhhh
Hats off to you for going out of your comfort zone and eating things most of us wont. I have to say the best video segments are your reactions to some of those things you eat ( snails, bugs, raw fish, etc ) Keep up the great work!!
Fish is cooked within lime juice.
Where are the bugs and snails!???. And ceviche is cooked fish by lime
@@pickledjalapeno9482 is it kind of like gravad lax? Not as in flavor but more of the style of preparing, just letting it simmer in its own juices for a while?
I’ve been having a marathon watching all of your videos lol. My grandmother and I enjoy your content! ❤️
Thank you Yasmine we appreciate your input, and I'm glad to hear that your grandmother also enjoys haha very cute:)
I love the fact you wanted to try the fish even though you were sure you would not like it. It's good to be curious!
It´s really awesome that you can communicate with them in Spanish! IDK if you already knew this long before, but I think you´ll get completely different service down there on that account alone. Now, about the food... Man up! lol! If you want to give it a shot, you have to take more than one tiny bite, come on! And try the entire plate, not a corner of it - it is supposed to go all together. If you only taste the fish, it´s like going to a concert just to hear the drums.
