No, he knew that the person warning him and telling him to go back the way he came to the tuktuk was actually planning to rob him. He was the accomplice of the tuktuk driver. He was the guy who the tuktuk driver was on the phone with earlier. Had he listened to the man's "warnings" and gone back the way he came, he would've been robbed by him and the tuktuk driver. So going down into the barrios, away from the guy "warning" him, was the safer thing to do in this situation, because going back up to the tuktuk would have gotten him robbed for certain.
@@allonifrah3465 how do you know? They could've easily waited for him when he went down also.

I'm Peruvian and my school was llocated at the base of the 'hill' (cerro) but lived in a different district. That was all my parents could afford for my education. I have never gone up there by foot but had a school friend who did. The truth is that there is good and bad people people living there. All those warnings came from people of good heart that noticed he was a foreigner and felt the need to protect him which is quite nice. That is actually a good sign. Was it risky? Yes, but also shows how people manages to survive living in this place. They protect one another.
@doubt that they were good people, they looked really shady. Blank stare eyes.. that's usually a warning sign.. a person who is friendly has a bit of light in their eyes, not completely blank
@@GratDuForloradeArgumentet You are right, must be super careful in those areas, but also wrong in that there are good people with good hearts even in poorest areas. I know this for a fact because my own mother came from very poor, sketchy area and she and her entire family have hearts of gold.

@OGIT1917 I can speak from experience. 🙈 almost got robbed 3 times in an hour trying to get back home via subway/taxi. Finding a taxi in the hood is a dead sentence, I was literally 5 seconds away from getting stabbed before a cop car showed up AND a taxi, best luck of my life he ran away the other side when he saw the cop with his lights.

Wow. I would never go to a country where everybody's first question is "Are you alone?". :-)
Well my wife from lima told me that this area is just very poor but people are really nice. Mostly there are lots of prejudges about those areas. Actually the dangerous districts are more inside the city and the police warns there, not even them can enter to those districts.
Gamarra market is more dangerous tbh, but yeah alot of the stuff about it been dangerous is more about that race of people who live there 🙄 alot of racism in Peru calleo is more dangerous too

Kurt just moving the rope over to the side like its nothing hahahaha
Bro, as someone from Lima,Peru. I never went to those places, its too risky and would never go there. I was nervous the entire video, YOU ARE INSANE!!
Ok, i am really curious about something. I am from a safe country so I don’t know about this. Is it that dangerous? I mean, what do you mean by « risky ». People are saying you can get robbed or killed just like that. I understand about the robbing thing, but killed? Why would they kill you? Life don’t have any value there so some people just kill you like that?
An other question: on the top, there was a woman selling stuff and he bought a beer. Also, all the way, we see people like the old guy blessing him, or the people saying to him to hide the camera. Those people are not in danger? Or are they so used to it they don’t even care anymore?
@@corentin8634 theres normal ppl mixed along with the wolves, yes to all of your questions
@@FlippersTF2 ok thanks
@@corentin8634 Marginal, poor neighborhoods are dangerous because there's little to none policing thus ripe for gun toting gangs and junkies who might not hesitate to shoot you or stab you if you try to resist the robbery. Of course, most people are peaceful and even friendly as you see on the video but there are rotten apples too.
On the second question, locals feel somehow safer because they have become adapted and risk-conscious. Naturally, they know they live in permanent danger but have learned to deal with that situation. Today I live in a relatively safe district of Lima but I grew up in a not too safe area and it is just the harsh reality of everyday life there.

Hi Kurt, I am a certified tour guide from Peru, and i always encourage people to visit the local side of the city.
I think you have big balls for getting to Cerro San Cristobal by yourself.
The toktok guy didnt want to rob you, someone called him insistently and he said "estoy chambeando" which means "i am working right now"
I dont think i would ever go there without soneone from the place and i dont think i would ever take tourist unless i know someone from that place.
However, thanks for showing that local of Peru i always talk about with the travelers i know.
The dish you were looking for is called "Anticucho" = cow heart on the bbq
They sell it everyone from 6/7pm
See you!
In the minute 11:03 he is trying to take a selfie with Kurt and the phone suddenly starts ringing, someone was calling, then they called again and the driver said, "Listen, Listen, i am taking a pax to the Cross, listen, I will call you later"
Also, Carlos, the driver charged 10 soles, usually it should be 2/4 soles.
He made his gringo price. I think the driver wasnt bad and i would like to make it clear.
I come from this local areas, a lot of the nicest people ever, se assholes everywherre.

To add, he said he was taking pictures for Facebook. Nope, he was sending the photos to his friends at the bottom of the hill. He has to video the mugging and also have prior documented photos of the victim so he can prove that he set it up, so some of the gang members he's involved with can't try to get out of paying him his cut. Yeah that's how it works.
Love your videos bro :) keep them coming , most of us would never even try to go there (I would love to) my dream is to travel South America, I am jealous 🫠 stay safe
I'm peruvian and CZcams's algorithm lead me here. The mototaxi ("Tuk Tuk" like you called it) overcharged you a bit (not by a lot though) and that's why he wanted to also take you back so he could also overcharge you for the ride back. I don't think that there was any foul play by the creepy guy at the stairs, pretty sure that they all were worried that they might rob you. As you can see we all live in fear because we've all been robbed at least once in this city. (and every day we can see news about violent muggings on TV)
lol the guy just stood in the stairs like a damn statue waiting for him and acted weird. Not only that but the tuk tuk had 4 phone class the door was only unlock-able on his side and it was a text where it says “victim” on the door lol.
