    You’ve got some of the best riding I’ve seen on CZcams, and I watched ALOT😂. I’m amazed at your bike handling skills. Makes me stoked to go out and ride. I also like how you ride different rigs than I’m used to seeing. Keep it up!

    You ride a large in this bike - can I ask your height and inseam? I’m 5’ 11” with 33 1/4 inseam and was thinking medium as my reach is shorter. But the large does seem maneuverable. Nice riding!

    Are you running a tire insert? Curious about your weight and tire pressure and how you're getting along with the Rekon Race.

    • @PatSmage
      @PatSmage  Před 9 měsíci +1

      No insert at the moment. I am tempted to put one in the rear. But I kind of want to keep this wheelset light so considering another wheel set up a bit more beefy. I do like these for xc since they roll fast but they don't have as much grip as I am used to of course. I am 190 and have been running somewhere in the low 20s for trail riding, but that feels too low for some trials moves with these tires.

    Great vid!
    Which do you like more? Dv9, Ripley AF, or Exie? I’m looking for a flatland single track trail bike.

    • @PatSmage
      @PatSmage  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Thanks! It depends on the trail. If it’s smooth, the DV9 rips and is a lot of fun. If it’s a bit rougher, the Ripley will be more comfortable. I haven’t ridden the Exie anywhere but the parking lot but I would guess it’s probably right in between. All good choices just depends on you trail and riding style.

      @@PatSmagethanks man! Great vids! Saw some of your stuff off of Ibis’ page! Hope to learn more as I progress. I live in TX and we have a variety of trails, most locals here say go with Ripley bc of the FS. I’ll give it more thought, you make the DV9 look so fun!

    • @PatSmage
      @PatSmage  Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@CragCatDad can’t go wrong with the Ripley! If I could only choose one ibis, that would probably be it. It’s a great all arounder that pedals well. I’ve only been to a few trails in Texas and some would have been fine on a hard tail while others were asking for some extra cushion. If you do end up getting one and don’t have an ibis dealer local, consider checking out N+1 bikes!

    • @CragCatDad
      @CragCatDad Před 7 měsíci +1

      @@PatSmageexcellent! Yeah someone from N+1 reached out already when I posted in a group trying to ask questions. The Ripley sure seems like the best do-it-all bike from Ibis. I think I’d be sad bc then my San Quentin probably wouldn’t be ridden as much if I go Ripley. Great to know tho that would be your bike of choice from Ibis.
      I’ll have to start working on trials skills, looks like it can make any location a fun place to ride.

    Hello, thinking of getting a dv9 but not sure if to pick the deore or the GX build. How did you choose? Do you think the GX is better? :)

    • @PatSmage
      @PatSmage  Před 9 měsíci

      They are pretty similar, but my other 29" bike has a sram xd driver so I thought it would be good to have this one be the same in case I wanted to swap wheels. That was my main reason. I just saw that they are on sale so it is a great time to pick one up! If you don't have a local shop you can check out www.n1bikes.com and they will take care of you if you let them know I sent you.

    • @PatSmage

  • @mircea5013

    Does it feel like a trail or XC bike in terms of position and stack height? Do you feel you have your weight centered, on the back wheel or pushing more on the front wheel?
    I'm asking because I have a problem with low stacks, having pretty long legs (180cm, 86inseam). Thanks

    • @PatSmage
      @PatSmage  Před 8 měsíci +2

      It is definitely more forward feeling than my mojo trail bike, but not as much as my old xc bikes. Maybe somewhere in the middle or a bit closer to xc. It is hard to say without riding them back to back since I don’t have another xc bike at the moment.

    • @PatSmage
      @PatSmage  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Definitely! The skills transfer over really well. Balance and fitness can be improved also. It doesn't necessarily have to be a trials specific bike, a MTB can work too, but some things will be easier to learn on one.

    Can anyone provide me with a frame size recommendation? I'm 5'8.5 so I'm right on the edge of a medium and large and the difference between the two is massive on paper. I'm a bit weary of going to something with a 470mm reach as i've never owned anything that long and not sure how it would do on the tight and twisties in the wooded trails I ride. I'm not a downhill charger, my rides average 9-10mph.

    • @PatSmage
      @PatSmage  Před 5 měsíci +1

      I’d say it’s a bit of personal preference. I and 6’ but if I was your height, I’d probably go for a medium because I prefer smaller over bigger. Either would probably work fine and can be adjusted slightly of course.
