Thank you for useful video! Searching old maps is very important for me, because many geographical names in my native Eastern Galicia were changed during Soviet era, some villages are now part of nearest towns/cities. So often I must compare old and modern maps

Google your ancestor's name and places they've lived. Sometimes you'll hit a gold mine this way. I found an entry in a "Who's Who" type publication. The information gave a lot of great information that was not available from any other source. Searching another ancestor lead to a newspaper article that was a nearly complete biography. Who knew small town postmasters were such a big deal in the 19th century?

You can also use the Google Photos app (on your phone, at least) to transcribe text in an image for you, so you don't have to retype a lot. You just open the image, then use the little "rounded square" icon at the bottom of the screen, and it will have a "pixie-dust" effect for a few seconds. Then, you can use the "Select Text" option and "Copy Text."
Just like any OCR transcription, you still have to proofread what it copies for you.
You can also use that same rounded square icon to scan an image of a trademark, building, or place, and see if it can find a match in its database. I've used this to figure out that a family photo was taken in a certain Dutch city, and to identify the blurry image of a label on a beer bottle in an old photo, which helped to data the photo.

Yep. It's fun. Next week will be using Google Image Search with your photos. That is fun and not so fun at the same time.
