- Get to know Simon Richardson: mountain biker turned road racer turned GCN Presenter.
Become a GCN fan for more of Si's cycling tips: gcn.eu/SubscribeToGCN
Simon Richardson has been with GCN, on and off, since the very beginning. So, we thought that you should get to know him a bit better. We went back to where cycling began for Simon: on his mountain bike at his local trails and then went for a brew to find out about his cycling successes, regrets, and, what it's really like working with former Cervélo Test Team hero Daniel Lloyd.

I had no idea that these GCN presenters are this prestigious :o They were actual pros back in the days
Except for Ollie, they are pretty decorated cyclists, especially Jeremy & Manon
@@razaninaufal Matt Stephens too! National champion
My fave gcn presenter. Classy, informative, fun.
I really wondered how Simon could be a retired Pro. I thought he look to be in his early 20's. Thanks to this presentation, I now figure he is in his early 30's.
Fell down the GCN rabbit hole for a few hours. Such fun videos. Now need to get some work done.
Been there, done that
lolololol
"oh yeah was a great time
back in the day when I was riding for the WD40 test team ....."
4 hours at 300 watts. Legend.
MM Of the Perth Mikes yeah when he said that I had to go through it again in my head...just whaaaaaaat?
i can hold that for 1 minute best. No exaggeration there at all
PLEASE never leave GCN, my fav presenter👍🏻
Former runner international miler way back and a complete novice to cycling. Just really warm to this presenter. Obviously a class act in his day. Presents in fun informative way without being too preachy and smug. Addicted to his epic travels.
Jon - met him yesterday - was in Ross on Wye when a bunch of guys in GCN kit rode up and went into Cafe Nero so I popped in just to say how I enjoyed his videos - nice guy.
Simon Richardson, a classy bike rider and thoroughly good bloke as are the other presenters.
Always informative and fun to watch.
Thank you.
Simon,
I've just finished watching all the GCN presenters videos and I'm leaving comments on each of them.
Just so you know, I've called
Matt, the Funniest
Tom, the coolest,
Dan, the Nice guy
and you I think is the most stylish GCN presenter.
I like how you look when you're riding, your bike, the way you talk, by sticking your hand out and pausing as in when you like.
I almost find myself talking like you after watching almost 24 hours of GCN.
Keep riding.
Also I think you must be really smart and very very particular about your bike.
Cheers.
Now do an update...how about Manon?
Great photo of simon in the yellow jersey with 2 legends of the Ràs, joe fenlon and andrew roche. I love riding the Ràs.
What a cracking team of presenters.
You are HILARIOUS!!! (You and Matt Stevens need to have your own tv show) I LOVE the way you interact with your GCN mates and always manage to make me laugh in the midst of a tough training video. You sure enjoy life, don't you?! Echo your passion for the Cote d'Azur. =) Thanks for sharing your story, for being so genuine/real, again for being SO hilarious and for being my favorite instructor. Keep up the great work!
Simon cool as,simple -humble dude,talent,gcn,excellent
It is so rare anymore to hear anyone even mention Farmer John in a conversation anymore. He is/was one of my big heroes as well when I was mountain biking +1 to Si for good taste.
Wicked awesome. Wish I were in the UK, I'd love to work for GCN!
Being involved with mountian bike XC racing 1991-2003 I remember your first Bristol bike shop team well racing in "sport" MTB XC class races across the south. Remember you winning lists Simon.
It was a surprise to hear you say JohnTomac is one of your cycling heroes...he's a legend. I am a huge fan of his son Eli, who is a professional dirt bike rider for Team Kawasaki . I hear Eli is a beast on a mountain bike too...
Nice interview, I know it was a while back, but I appreciate it.
Cool jerseys. Sounds like a great experience with having your mates pull for you. Nice!
Best GCN Moment: the five minute bike wash. Got me through some tough times...
Simon is my favorite in GCN
You are amazing Simon :D good to see the parts in mtb The best is yet to come! ;)
Loved your 5 min bike wash vid!
Excellent video, and great series.
Love these videos, thanks sharing
I totally agree with you on your favourite place to ride, the cote d'azur. I worked as a couier in france in 2010 and we went to a place called the gorge du verdon which lies next to the french riviera and that area was epic for bike rides. gorgeous. :)
INFORMATIVE AND GREAT TO WATCH ON CZcams
Simon, everybody in Ireland would eternally grateful if you would pronounce An Rás properly - The R-aw-s. Not the R-aa-s. Thanks Simon, great video!
what Simon said about not being able to compete in juniors is so true i get dusted up in under 17's and am 14 cause everyone is like a head taller then me..
My favorite GCN presenter
Could GCN post a video tour of Mud Dock ? Im in the US and would love to see the place. Thank you in advance 👍🏻
Indeed Côte d'Azur is one of the best places for cycling. I live there and I have access to at least 15 cols from my doorstep :)
He’s a really terrific presenter. Great video.
We're glad you're still loving Si after all these years!
Good stuff Simon. PS I live in Grasse not far from Nice. I recommend checking out some of the roads around Gourdon, Thorenc etc if you have done the Madone too many times. Quieter roads up here and better surfaces. Good luck in the trans-vesubie.
Ciao Si,
You are great!!
Si is such a good presenter
(Brit. Champs i think) 5.31 - when Simon got worked over bigtime by 3x Sky riders...the class of Simon that day was outstanding to hold equal to them ! - other than that, the riders stories are fantastic ! Its easy to forget that all the presenters on GCN are or where up there in fitness that IS NOT easy to get too !!! #respect
Thanks Lee, that was a cool race to ride.
Will u pls come to Ireland and do the race again I love gcn and I live in Ireland
Congrats on your recovery! =D
LOL What video is that Matt reaction to the Bus pass from? That's hilarious.
John Tomac!!! His son is killing it on dirtbikes right now.
great to see a little MTB riding should me more of it
John Tomac's son Eli is just as gnarly as his dad! He is one of the top motocross racers in the world, and he has started to beat his dad on the mountain bike!
When you've been watching too many GCN videos that you almost feel like watching your ride mates presenting XD
Nice to meet you Simon! :)
Excellent video, he's my favourite!
Is this a joke?
Daniel Lloyd I'm so sorry :)
Matt's my favourite :) he's such an idiot but hilarious
Si is alright in my book. My bikes have never been so clean and well looked after since watching the maintenance videos 👍 🚴🏻
But it's definitely peak down!!
I have to go to Bristol now!
Si is my fav
I liked your 5min bike clean vid (even the wd40 bit)...
Oh, and I liked your new GCN jingle too :-P
thanks GCN :D
Gish is it really that long that you did the giro trip. I remeber it like it was a couple if years ago. You haven't chsnged really must be cycling. John Tomac is a legend im a similar age as him and got into mtb and bought many parts that he used.
YOOO!!! His first sponsor was San Miguel?! WooHoo! How cool is that?
I wish I could win a race that I could not pronounce
If you train harder, maybe you can win the Tower dee Franch one day!
the best presenter in gcn
3:43 there is an accent (called a fada (pronounced f-o-da)) over the "a" in "an rás", so it is actually pronounced "r-awe-s". It's the Irish for "race".
You beat me to it Seán. Should pronounce rás with an accent like yer man Llod when he says "boss"
Garry Keogh It's alright I beat him to it ;) although his explanation is slightly pedantic :)
Great video, looking forward to the others. Give us some of your 300k subscribers!!!!
Love these meet the presenters. GCN is represented by some Grade A chaps.
Can you guy's do a video on base mile training?
Awesome national team jersey
Hey Simon, what's your educational level? You sound like a scientist.
Anibal Jesus Delgadillo MM.,mmm
That race you won, the Rás, the á is drawn out, it's pronounced rawce :P
Thinking that you should do a presenter height and bike fit
A great bloke, can't wait for Matt's dribble:)
Simon congratulations on winning Ireland's national bike race, but the Rás Tailteann (for short the Rás) is pronounced 'Raws' due to the accent or 'fada' on the a. The Tailteann games were a kind of ancient Celtic Olympics, and Rás means 'race' in Irish. Anyway, chapeau.
Hi simon i just got a ventura cp50 what do you think just ready to go for a first run in our great british weather.
Share the knowledge!
Simon it's pronounced the R(aww)s - An Rás. Great show lads keep up the good work.
Did Si ever do his comeback race?
This classic
Where did he go? Is he okay? Been like a year since we've seen him.
Why does he never wear sunglasses?
It isnt necesary? Should i wear them even if i hate it?
Great video!
Keep it up :)
where are matt and tom's meet the gcn presenter?
Look up Eli Tomac if you happen to see this. Its John's son and he is the best in the world at motocross and is a absolute beast on a bike.
This is the first time I see an mtb on gcn
I don't remember the rás 2009. I was at a stage finish
I'm awfully late to this, but could anyone tell me what Si says to Matt at around 02:13, please?
Simon, what's the longest travel bike you've ridden?
And are there any video's of you riding them?
Sweet channel guys, keep up the good work!
I'm still a big fan of hardtails and short travel full suspension. The biggest bike I've ridden probably still only has 120mm front and back!
Champion of the mic
Glad you love Si - he's still going strong!
can I buy the GCN jerseys anywhere?
I did the 5 min bike cleaning today 😁
I went to that cafe 😆
tomacs kid is killing it in motocross, people always joke how gnarly his dad is.
king
@GCN If Simon's cycling career was going so well (which it seems like it was due to his palmares) why did he give up/drop the sport? He clearly is a very talented rider in multiple biking disciplines and appears to be an ample rider that any World tour/Pro continental team would want on their roster.
Hey George, I kind of fancied a change really. As much as I loved being a pro, I'd done it for a long time and all the sacrifices I had to make for it eventually started to make me want a change.
Rás as he calls it is actually pronounced raws it’s the Irish for race
Will you stay with GCN next year althrough your doing your mtb-comeback?
You think that you'll ride at proconti or continental level on the road or are you just focusing on mtb?
No I'm not going to race properly, just lining up again will be cool. GCN's too much fun.
Wow big Simon answered my question, thats awesome!! Thanks mate!!!
But is GCN your only job?
San Miguel? What product?
Like the Accent;)
3:47 it is pronounced the ros the a makes the sound of the o in on because of the fatha. It’s known as an post rás meaning the post race in English. Irish is confusing
what's the story behind the neck brace earlier this year?
and all hail WD40!
It was a mountain biking accident if I remember correctly.
It was a 'cross bike incident where Si fractured a vertibrae in his neck. He ended up face down in stinging nettles too :-(
Global Cycling Network Goodness that is adding insult to injury.
Global Cycling Network
Poor bugger. I did the same (including the fractured c4) on the pavement.
Hmmm, pavement, nettles, can't choose.
Organ Farm I choose nettles. Might sting your face but less likely to knock your teeth out.
he won the Ras, he can call it whatever he wants!
Is Simon still on for his MTB comeback?
Could be, watch this space.....
+Global Cycling Network Has it happened? I see he's doing well in CX
Simon. Do you follow any other sport and which teams or players are your favourites?
Sorry for the late reply Daniel. I'm actually pretty narrow minded on cycling to be honest, but I'm partial to a bit of athletics too.
Can I have a GCN Jersey😁 good quality videos
john tomac's mtb looks really weird with that disc wheel.
Does anyone know what bike it is he is riding at 5:55?
It's a Scott Solace Disc :-)
did you know john tomacs son is a world champ mx rider
Rás pronounced "rawss" (Irish for race)
In welsh its "ras" as in Rasp.
Brb, just searching for progression in my power files.
