    I was in a private gym with my trainer here in Westlake Village, CA when I ran into Tiger. It was just the 3 of us in the gym at around 6 in the morning. He was hosting his Chevron tiger tournament back in the day. He was laser focused and worked out for at least 2 hours and then goes and plays 18 holes at his tournament. Remember that he had huge shoulders and was built more like a running back. I did not bother him because my trainer had received a text message from the gym owner to not ask Tiger for a selfie or whatever. But spent a good hour with Tiger in a gym. That’s my story about my experience with Tiger Woods!

      Most people would never dream of working out BEFORE playing a round of golf, never mind playing a top level competition off the back of it. In my mind, that makes him quite different from the vast majority of other humans.

    When he was walking to the 14 tee at St. Andrews in 1995, when he was still an Amateur., I said to him as he passed, 'Great par Tiger'...and he said 'Thanks'. Ok...not really a conversation, but I can still say that I've spoken with the GOAT 😎

    My Tiger story. I’m two years older than Tiger, and was on last family holiday in Orlando with my mum and dad when I was 17. We were staying just off International Drive, and when driving around passed the entrance to Bay Hill GC, and a sign that said USGA Junior championship. We went in, just a handful of cars, free parking right beside the clubhouse at Bay Hill and we went out and watched the juniors play (completely free entry). Including a skinny kid with an unusual name - Tiger. We watched the golf that day and came back the next (it was match play format from what I remember) and saw Tiger win it. Couldn’t be more than maybe 10 people watching him, and maybe 50 on the final hole. After the tournament I was stood next to Toger and his caddy (who was this absolutely huge black guy from what I remember) said would you like a photo/autograph and since I was an awkward 17 yr old and he was 15 I thought it would be a bit weird. My dad said I’d regret it and he was right…. He was a phenomenal golfer at that age, skinny and quite tall I remember - it was really cool a few years later to double take when he played his first tournament and to know we saw him before all that when hardly anyway wanted to watch him play.

    In 2015 at the pga championship at whistling straits when tiger was making his comeback I watched him play after the rain delay. They let us in at 530am and we ran to watch tiger restart his round. It was my brother my sister and I with tiger on that restart at 14? for 3 holes. At 17 his gallery started filling up and by 18 it was hard to get close. But for three holes I was 4 feet away from him and I was surprised by him. He was tall and imo thin. I’m 5’9 255 and he was lithe. Also blown away by that laser focus. It’s something I’ve only seen one other time by Michael Jordan. The air the ambience the focus. Finally, he made eye contact with me twice. I am not a small man so he did a double take when he saw me as he walked by at 14 and I smiled wryly at him and he smirked. At 16, when he walked off with par and the cut seemed likely I said, tiger you will win another masters again, and he looked me dead in the eyes and said thank you.

    I'll never forget sitting on the ropes at 5th and 17th tees in the final round of the 2002 PGA. It was like the old video you see of Beatlemania or Elvis. It was as if all the energy in the universe was localized around that tee box. You couldn't even breathe. I was literally vibrating for days afterward. It seems really weird to describe something like a golf tournament in those terms, but it really was something to behold.

    Tiger was absolutely dominant back then (we're the same age), but the competition today is altogether different. None of these guys would have beat Tiger's "A" game back then, but many would have challenged anything less. Tiger was able to win with his "ok" stuff in his 20's because he was across the board better than everybody else in every facet of the game. Phil hadn't yet honed his game to be consistent and Ernie lacked that extra gear.

    • @TrueRahf
      @TrueRahf Před 2 lety +7

      The reason many of these guys exist, in the capacity they do, is because Tiger Woods changed the game. That's quite something to think about.

      @Oldlard Před 2 lety +1

      You hear this a lot and everyone says the same thing about Jack. The fact is they made their competition look weak in comparison, it’s not that their competition was weak.
      If the current crop of players are so good why is the current PGA champion a 50 year old Mickelson, who at his best couldn’t come close to Tiger.

    • @Zacharydderrick
      @Zacharydderrick Před 2 lety

      @@Oldlard Phil had a good week and he's one the top 15 of all time. Completely disagree with your assessment. Jack had Palmer, Player, Watson, Trevino to complete against. Players today have a greater combo of power, control, and touch vs. Tigers prime.
