THANKS SO MUCH FOR WATCHING! - Jak na to + styl
Thank you guys! I loved getting to talk about this 💕
Yeeah boi!
Hi Emily, thanks for this great video! can you help me to find the same backdrop you use in this video? thanks a lot!
Hey Emily, excellent run through...thanks so much! Wanted to know what backdrop you were using? Is that available somewhere to buy?
Very fluid presentation. She really knows what she's talking about. Cool & relaxed tone of voice too. Thank you.
Thank you so much! :)
Love love love 🤍🤍🤍 also that girl working in the background seems super cool 😂🤣😂🤣
Who is that? Someone squatting I presume.
She's alright ;)
This was a great tutorial! It’s so important to master one light before moving on to multiple light set ups!
So happy to hear you liked it Mike!
Beautiful work and you explained everything very well. Nice job also demonstrating how versatile even just one light can be. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you Jerry! ^_^
Lot of people whinging about the music. I didn't even notice it! Excellent video, Emily - thank you for being so thorough and showing your decision-making process as you went along. It's a really useful insight.
I love this! I have watched several tutorials about using 1 strobe light but this is the best👍👍👍
Well that puts a massive smile on my face!! Thanks!’
What a crisp and clear explanation. Thank you
I'm glad you liked it! :)
This was an excellent training video Emily - I loved it! It’s great that you explain everything you’re doing but what I found particularly helpful was the way you let us see you analysing your shots, saying what you liked and what you didn’t and then how you were going to respond to what you saw. That process clarifies your decisions and I think it provides incredibly useful and practical information. Thank you again Emily and I look forward to your next video
This is so wonderful to hear. Thanks Stephen!
Nicely put together (except for the music). Straight to the point without any unnecessary chitchat or joking. Please do more like this!
Fantastic explanation!! Nice and slow and thorough. Ty for sharing.
Thanks Kathy! Glad you enjoyed it :)
Excellent video. Very educational. You did a fantastic job showing, and explaining these lighting setups. The images, and the model are very beautiful. Looking forward to seeing more videos like this from you. They are very helpful.
So happy to hear this Albert! Thanks!!
My first first! Love this just because I need to simplify my flow. 💪🏽
Thank you Paige!!
Great review!

Hey friend, nice to see you on screen! Simplicity, is your motive and what is really best for portraits and beauty. Great video!
Great job Em. Keep up the great work.
Thank you Chris!! ^_^
Thank you Adorama and Emily for this tutorial

Thanks!!
Amazing, amazing tutorial! Thank you for this!
Thanks Chris!! :)
wheres the backdrop from?
My roommate, Brandi Nicole, hand painted it!
This is so cool Emily! Thank you for sharing insights and tips for one light setups!!
I'm glad you liked it! Thanks Charlie! :)
Amazing videos. Tons of lessons crammed into one video. Emily seems like a great teacher and easy to work with
Thank you so much, Emily. I love watching your videos for inspiration and instruction :-)
Great presentation Emily👏 Well done. Learnt a lot🙏
Really happy to hear it! ^_^
🐝🐝❤️
love this, you packed so many informations in this video!
Thanks so much Ivan!
Dropping the music would be really helpful :-)
Really helpful with the explanation of each setup! Thank you, Emily and Adorama for these great tutorials :)
Thanks!! :)
Know the light and anyone will master photography in any genre.
Wonderful instruction! You make it look easy! Thanks for this sort of content.
I really appreciate that :)
Why no one one light set up dont use softbox 50x70 or 60x90, already octabox?
Because I prefer the round catch lights that come from an octa. The 39” / 100cm is the most versatile modifier I own.
No reason why you can't use a rectangular softbox. Try it!
This is an excellent video 👍 love the explanation, beautiful pictures 📸 awesome work 👏
So helpful!! I need to buy a V flat now...
They're so helpful!
This is awesome. I like the experiment like this. Really good for beginner.
Thank you Tom!! :)
Your explanations are so easy to understand and so perfectly presented. Love your work.
Oh and btw that image over your shoulder on your screen at 18:57 !!! I love that!
I'm so happy to hear this!! :D
Great video! I would like to know more about the backdrop system she's using!
I use autopoles from Kupo :)
Thanks Emily for explaining beautifully....I have one question can I shoot by keeping the service lights on...
This came in handy cause I only have a ring light with the removable light bars 😂
Oh perfect!! :)
I’m a beginner so cheap lights or anything that doesn’t require too much helps 😂 thanks for the tips in this video!
Great! Thanks for sharing your skills for me to learn!
Thank you John!!
@@EmilyTeague Hope to see more of your videos!
Hi Emily, thank you for this tutorial - I’ll definitely be trying to incorporate some of these concepts in my next shoot. Thank you for showing the difference between hard and soft light.
Do you have any recommendations for a light for a one light set up like this that still has a modelling light but suits a tight budget?
Emily is fantastic at this, and I love the video but the background music looping is so distracting.
great stuff enjoyed seeing the different setups - I wondered about the lightstand and boom arm combo is that a particular brand I can lookup looks sturdy without being full on C-stand?
Mine are from Kupo :)
I liked her cheekbone highlight; how critical is makeup relative to lighting?
Sorry what number u setting for F and speed miss? Nice shot just with one light, beautiful portrait
Thank you for the informative and well-produced video. I love the grey mottled backdrop - and was going to ask you who manufactured it. But then I decided to read through the comments assuming that someone had already asked - and sure enough, someone did. ☺️ Does your friend paint these for sale? I’d love to have one exactly like the one she painted.
I'm trying to convince her to sell them! They're so beautiful. She doesn't yet, but hopefully in the future. Here's her Instagram to follow :)

fabulous! thank you for the effort and the sharing. as a flash newbie (actually i am terrified of flash!), perhaps a YT vid for us. are you concerned about the ambient light in the space? capture one for the tethering support? always FF? how much resolution is enough? i am an appreciative subscriber. stay well. thumbs
I'm not concerned about the ambient lighting because the flash will overpower it. Yes to Capture One- it's great for tethering and so powerful for editing. FF being full frame? If so yes! And for how much resolution is enough, I suppose that depends on what you're shooting and where it's going. Hope this helps! :)
Great tutorial. Where did you get your backdrop?
Thank you! My roommate, Brandi Nicole, hand painted it :)
How do you automatically transfer to your computer?
By a tethering cord. The one I use is from Tether Tools :)
Hi, may I ask which light stand she is using?
Its called a C stand
They're from Kupo :)
Someone has to spoil the show... it might as well be me.... 2 things... I see your floor is scratched, you might wanna invest in felt pads for your equipment & furniture... #2, have you ever listened to the same ‘ol droning music looping for 20 minutes? Please, that looping music almost made me stick some pencils in my ears to rupture my drums... bonus tip, cover your mic with a small dead cat, you got hot a couple of times... on the bright side, the video sans the music was quite enjoyable. Loved the model as well. Looking forward to more. Thanks again, & remember, this was meant to help. If you only hear how good you are doing, it will take longer to get better. ☮️
That's quite the visual! ;)
Agreed. The music was maddening. I always wonder why presenters feel compelled to put music in the background of videos. It certainly doesn't add to our learning.
Why 6.3 aperture ? Not wider aperture
I don’t understand the difference between top of the light and bottom of the light 💡 they somewhere you say prefer to get bottom of the light
Did You use a light meter?
I did not :)
@@EmilyTeague And you don't need to - I use multi light set ups on location balancing Broncolor Moves with daylight - no light meter needed - everything proofed right in front of your eyes at the press of a button!!!!
@@EmilyTeague thank You for answering to my question ;)
Good cinematic lights mam
#dijitubach
It was a nice presentation but I had to lower the volume and see the Close Captions because the background music was too annoying. sorry. I believe she is the best of the Adorama instructors.
I appreciate this so much, thank you! And great feedback on the background music. Thanks!
1/60 with an 85mm?
Flash freeze the movement, you don’t need more👍🏻
She’s using flash... it stops the motion (if any).
Strobe at low power lits the scene for much shorter time than 1/60s, so if used as a main light, you do not have to worry about motion blur or whatever.
i see 1/160
@@al_dente_studio Yep 1/60the would pick up ambient as well and movement - 160th no -
Sorry, you speaking fast and the background musik is so load, so i can not understand, what you say.
Sorry to hear that, Uwe.
Good video with well explained examples, however that music is really annoying. If you don't want to remove it, turn in down so it isn't so obtrusive.
Great video but that too-loud non-stop music loop was driving me crazy! Not needed IMHO.
Good video, but the background music was more than I could handle.
Just feels like an ad for V-flats. I've never seen a tutorial where reflectors were mentioned so many times. The point of a one light setup video is, as she said, for folks with less equipment.... so it's not really helpful to those folks if her answer to everything is a pair of giant, room-sized panels.
How to stop that backgrouund musik??? Could not watch the video till the end....my nerves...
The music is disturbing.
Wearing a mask its gonna be a good idea.
Anyway good tips.
I really like your Clips, but It’s hard to concentrate and follow, because of the much to loud, annoying, distracting background Music.
Excuse me, isn't it a little underexposed
Are you Kidding me 20mins of the same momotanus droning music spoiling a great tutorial
