We should get more ref mic reactions.
Yes yes we dooo
That reaction is rare tho, they normally react more "professional". Even Marc said that in his 20 years in this job, that's the first reaction like that.
Marc had the best seat in the house.
Honestly
We should get more discussion on them eye pokes
Max Holloway just added another highlight to this already accomplished legacy

Being a ref in a high level promotion must be such a surreal experience.
its a job
And getting to see the fight closer than anyone
Has anyone considered that the UFC 300 fight for the 'BMF' might be staged? Especially considering the once in a lifetime knockout
@@peterjordansonthe2nd731 It is possible. Always doubt on millionaires
@@coolnerdsclothing6377so because it’s a job it can’t be a crazy/surreal experience?
You never see boxers scrapping like this. Respect to both guys.
At the biggest event in the history of the sport, he went up a weight class, chose the most vicious puncher in the division, ate the full force of his punches and kicks like they were nothing, schooled him for almost the entire fight, stood in the pocket and traded for the last 10 seconds when he FOR SURE already had the win in the bag, and faceplant KOs Gaethje with literally 1 second on the clock. I've been a UFC fan since 2005, and this tops everything.
One of the greatest storylines in the sport for sure, I knew if Max just put on the weight properly he would stand a waaaay better chance at LW
Badass comment !
The end for sure was scripted, so the rest must have been as well.
I been telling people this. I been here since 2006 and never seen anything like it. On the same ticket you never seen anything like what Poaton did either. His ko was overshadowed by this fight but damn did that card deliver.

Thats how you win a bmf belt and thats how you lose one. I have great respect for both fighters. To do real justice to having that bmf status, you dont go to a decison, you lose like a freaking gladiator meeting his end to the young hungry lion. I have more respect for both guys. Neither one of them have ever lied about throwing down like so many fighters do at press conferences.
@@LC-jq7vnmax fought dirty just like a real gladiator would too. Blind em with sand (eye pokes) then break something while theyre disoriented(nose) then pick em apart until the very end for theatrics (stand and bang). Straight outta roman playbook
Let’s make it mandatory that last 10 seconds of the fight, both fighters gotta meet in the center and not stop swinging 😂
shit, some ppl dont have that left in them after a 25 minute fight. longest fight i ever been in was less than 5 minutes, and that was like 3 rounds. that sucked, i didn't have the cardio fer dat.
@@aegis666420Yeah you gotta be a cardio beast to do that, usually wrestlers are cardio guys but looks like Max had the better tank. But damn wrestlers have endurance, in high school most wrestlers were better at swimming and running than actual swimmers and runners 😂😂.
That's why these guys were fighting for the BMF title. Takes a lot of heart to get in there. Takes even more to put it all on the line, even if you're clearly winning. 25 minutes of pure violence. Max is on another level.
No there’s a reason there’s a belt for people like this.

Warrior having a good nap there lad 😂
This should go down as one of the most iconic moments in sports history, not just the ufc, props to Justin, he went out on his shield like a warrior.
I feel like Justin should be equaly praised for this fight. The guy fought the full match with a broken nose, got beat up for almost all of it and in the last 10 seconds accepted the challenge to hold his ground and bang it out. The dude is really "about that life" and it showed.
Don't call this triumph of violence and cruelty sports
Don't forget the eye pokes! Gaethje had paid good money to have his nose and eyes fixed, and Max had taken all that away by round 2. Tough night at the office with a brutal ending. A BMF way to go that's for sure!
@@tasmaniandevil8199 did you get lost somewhere lol
@@MVProfitsUfc will pay 4 this one cuz it happened during the fight.
These two are the definition of warrior
Max was the most laser focused I feel like I've ever seen a fighter, from the very beginning. His training camp and gameplan were flawless. You love to see it
Yes. Laser focused his fingers on his opponent’s eyes.
TWICE.
@@industrialman8296 that is true. Surely you aren't saying that substantially takes away from Max's performance, are you? I think they main takeaway from those eye pokes is that gaethje is a warrior and a G
@@RoshDroz No, but it takes away from Justin’s performance which was enough for Max to win.
Do you think you are going to fight just as well compared to if you got your eyes poked?
No. As a matter of fact your fight ability goes down drastically. It is not even a little bit. I mean drastically.
Most people don’t understand hence why most people seem to have the memory of a goldfish and celebrate Max’s victory as if the eye pokes never happened.
Because most people haven’t had to continue a fight after having been poked in the eye so people think when the fighter says he can continue that it automatically means his eyes have fully recovered which it doesn’t. It just means the discomfort has become bearable enough to continue fighting but the actually vision impairment remains.
Max basically did what Jon Jones regularly does to win fights. Hence why Max won the fight as well.
@@industrialman8296you don’t think exploding Justin’s nose had anything to do with his performance after that? It was the poke instead?
@@SnotrocketLT4 Fighters are more used to getting hit in the nose than getting poked in the eye.

Shoutout the ufc for releasing this. Marc mentioned on twitter how he hoped the ufc would release his mic’d audio, said how he screamed when max knocked Justin out, and how it was just an automatic reaction due to the excitement, something that hasn’t happened to him in 20 years. It’s cool to see someone who constantly has to put their emotions to the side, and forget that they are a fan of the sport for awhile for the sake of fighter safety and fairness, just absolutely lose control and be overtaken by pure excitement like the rest of us were in just an iconic moment in the sports history. Goddard a real one.
that was a pure reaction he couldnt believe it man same with the rest of us! i saw marcs message on twitter too so im really happy for him the ufc released this 👍😊 what an absolute shock the last second of the fight knockout i can only imagine what it was like from marcs point of view being closest to the action! he will never forget this moment hes actually my favourite ref about at the minute its good to know hes a fan aswell!
@topbloke1683
Just curious based on the topic. I was wondering since it seems you know some of his work. Has Marc ever had any really bad calls you can think of?
@@Prison4HillaryChonestly, i cant think of a single stoppage where a lot of people went “what the fuck were you thinking”. Usually a bad marc goddard stoppage is like “oh, he couldve let him go longer until he got knocked cold”. When he stopped alex vs jiri would probably be most people’s pick for his worst stoppage but it’s also his most recent “bad” one so recency bias definitely plays a part
@@Prison4HillaryCI’m sure he has a few touchy ones but they all do. The refs that let it go for to long are kinda worse in my opinion, I like the violence of the sport but it’s kinda messed up watching someone undefended just getting mauled and the ref won’t stop it.
Marc used to compete back in the day and he was pretty dam good
Max Holloway is a very fast ,cautious, powerful
Fighter
Excellent boxing skills
With one minute left and the rest is history

Always love how he calls it to the center and let's bang it out. True warrior, mad props to ya dawg! Glad it worked out for you, you deserve it!!😊
Yeah, that was gangster as hell to just put it all on the line against someone that hits like Gaethje. Has to be the biggest "Oh f*ck" moment i've had watching the UFC.
I've been watching UFC since the very beginning. This literally is the greatest thing I've ever seen. The story behind it. Everyone I knew that watched MMA unanimously agreed that Justin Gaethje was going to be too much. His power, his leg kicks, we were all thought he was going to get hurt bad. And then the fight happened. Justin had moments but Max was outclassing Justin and hurt him on several occasions. And then to point to the ground to and fight in a phone booth to give Justin a chance after easily winning 24:50 mins of the fight and KO him with 1 second left for the ref to stop it.... The greatest thing I've ever seen in combat sports. Max Holloway is an absolute living legend and one of the true GOATs of MMA, period.
Amazing how what everyone was thinking was a lame fight - feeding Holloway to a bigger, mean Gaethje for a gimmick belt -, and it turned out like this, a GOATed fight for sure.
I'm thinking he's the active GOAT rn
Definitely a great moment but to say "the greatest" is just absolute recency bias! The stakes just weren't high enough in this fight, you will never convince me that Anderson Silva submitting Chael Sonnen after being beat up for 4.5 round or Izzys KO victory over Pereira after already losing 3 times previously and everyone was ready to say he will never be champion again and was already counting him out or Micheal Bispings remarkable short notice underdog victory over Luke Rockhold after spending like a decade in the top of the division but always falling short. Thats just 3 off the top of my head but im sure theres plenty more and you simply cant top a title fight with a back story and a spectacular ending. Win, lose or draw Max was going to remain a fan favourite anyway so that why i think you couldnt be more wrong
Having seen the way max had put the weight on, I had confidence he would outclass Justin. Max is on another level, and he doesn't spar that much at all 😂 technically he's a great boxer as a fighter his IQ is unreal 👌🏻
@@Sean-zz2lj if we're talking crowd/viewer reaction due to perceived danger level coming into the fight, overcoming the odds, unexpected outclassing of the opponent, plus the way he summoned him to the centre and the spectacular finish, then can definitely say was the greatest moment.
It's not just about what was the best on paper based on numbers, statistics or specific belt. It's about the energy created through a number of factors in that fight
I’ve watched this at least 100 times in prolly 30 different formats. So amazing. What a fight. Thank you Justin. Thank you Max. LEGENDS FOREVER.
