  • Honda's new 1.6 litre diesel engine finds its first home in the 2013 Honda Civic 1.6 i-DTEC. The practical Japanese hatchback will do 78.5MPG and in this top specification EX model, with touchscreen satellite navigation, also keeps passengers comfortable. Can this modern family hatch take on the best selling Ford Focus and beat it at its own game?

    my wife drives the 1.8 petrol in NZ, same colour with the 18inch Kryptons. love this car heaps, quirky design and in my eyes, beautiful. Quality is superb and finish brilliant.

    There is a horrible crackling noise on the sound of this video. Beyond this, it is a good review of the car.

    this 38 yr old has just ordered the 2.2 Ex Gt and cant wait to get rid of my 09 Civic 2.2 EX. Test drove the EX GT for 2 days and love it.... handles kids really well with the luggage they bring on journeys and if that doesn't work; simply shove the kids in the boot.

    ....besides, the space is huge, and weight distribution is very good, it's quieter than the bravo, giullieta, previous golf, focus! Also, the test should have some miles in the Highway. Perfect steering, no need to correct anything. Much more stable and steady than the 2.2idtec. I'd rather have the 1.6 anyday. Also, although we can cruze at 230km/h on the 2.2, the 1.6 cruzes easily at 190km/s which is also forbidden too, so no need for the extra power when this drives much better.

    Wow,,,, I drove a lot of the competitors with the 1.6l engine and found out that this was the best in the dynamics area! a bit like the focus, the only difference was that I tested with the 17" alloys. ... Weight on the front!?!?!?! this car has the lightest 1.6 engine on the world!!! i know you're still on your twenties, but isn't that your job to know that!? I'll have to agree with the SAt Nav ergonomics, but only for the sat nav, everything else is spot on.

    I have been offered this as my company car. I currently own an E90 BMW 2007 and cannot have the heart to part with my BMW so I may not opt for this

    I think if you just stopped and did the review in a parking lot somewhere it would have been much better. If you're driving you can't really concentrate on what you're saying and less "ummm....'" and "arghh..." would be appreciated. Other than that.. good review.

    I have one of these abysmal objects as a company car it really is a pile of poo. I've never had the misfortune of driving a diesel before and if this is smooth, quiet and powerful I would hate driving its competitors, they mus be truly dismal. Economical though.

      is it really that bad?

    • @nickhutson8989
      @nickhutson8989 Před 10 lety +1

      bradgonewild Well it's definitely not all that good. Yes it's economical, astoundingly so but the engine is incredibly noisy, the suspension is too soft and is crashy and bouncy in equal measure, it has numerous rattles, and the clutch take up is often juddery for some inexplicable reason. To make it worse there are reports that many MY2014 1.6 DTEC only average 45MPG and the fact mine averages over 70MPG is really it's only saving grace in my opinion. The paintwork is a joke, it has done 8K miles and is already peppered with stone chips. Boot is big as well. But if it didn't have economy on its side it it would be utter rubbish.

      bradgonewild Honda do not pay websites to review cars, that isn't how it works. Honda provide a car and insurance for a test period, usually a week. Nobody gets paid.

      My 8th gen was an inexplicably huge pile of shite as well. Hated it so much it was gone after 6 months. The engine was the only good thing about it but not enough to make me want to keep the car. Trade in was decent though.

    • @one959

      Aaah the company car syndrome.....bash it, flog it and thump it around then complain when it makes noises......Ive driven some and they are a beautiful car to drive. They handle well and the noise dampeners employed by Honda work perfectly. The quality finish is very good and is what you expect from Honda. The dash is futuristic but practical. The torque from this 1.6 turbo diesel is raucous. Not for a young tearaway, heaven forbid they should be allowed to drive a car like this. Top marks Honda.
