I'm a huge fan and I must say his performance in Patrick Melrose beats Sherlock's. I couldn't believe and he still did it.
Patrick Melrose had yet to come out. I personally think multiple performances beat Sherlock. Frankenstein, Parade’s End, and Imitation Game included.
They should cast him as 'Severus Snape' if they ever do a remake of the harry potter series

I immediately shut up and waited a few seconds. I then asked in a whisper “what’s going one why do I need to be quiet?” We were talking over the phone btw so for all I knew he was getting robbed or something. Then he calmly replied “no reason I just wanted you to stop.

+Anina Holbek The closest I've ever got (and probably will ever get) to seeing him live on stage was via filmed stage performances of both of those plays that were shown at a local movie theater.
Anina Holbek The Frankenstein is definitely the best, even in a remote view. Can't imagine watching it in a TV though.
I flew myself and my husband into London from Sweden to see his Hamlet. Worth every penny and a memory to last a lifetime. He is such a magnetic performer, Ill never forget it.
I hate the fact that I don't live in London bcuz I can't watch his amazing theatre performances. Damn it!
Hey, don’t know if you’re still interested in seeing him in Frankenstein but the CZcams channel -National theatre- has the full version on right now and this until Thursday evening, with Benedict starring as the creature. On Friday you can watch Benedict’s performance as Frankenstein himself. Hope this helps you out!
The imitation game is one of my favorite movies ever! Benedict was brilliant in the role of Alan Turing!!

I absolutely love his voice. I think it's one of the main things, why are his performances so incredible. And the reason, why I always watch Sherlock in original. My sister watched it with dabing and I was just: "How can you???!!!" (the same I feel about Christopher Lee, another great voice and the best for Saruman).

His role as Khan Hands down. The very first Movie I saw him star in and he instantly became my most favorite actor.

However, I personally, would put the imitation game 1st, simply because although sherlock is a cooler performance, the imitation game and his performance had emotion. Raw, undefined emotion. One of the only two movies to make me cry.

My Top Ten:
1) Alan Turing (The Imitation Game, the scene where he says "I don't want to be alone" and breaks down crying shatters my heart every damn time.)
2) Patrick Melrose (Patrick Melrose, one of Bennie's most intense roles and the funeral scene from the finale just... Wow!)
3) Khan (Star Trek Into Darkness, Bennie's best villain IMO.)
4) Smaug (The Hobbit trilogy, the motion capture alone sent chills down my spine.)
5) Sherlock Holmes (Sherlock, this is Bennie's signature role and for damn good reason. Despite its issues, The Final Problem contains some of his finest work on the show.)
6) Shere Khan (Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle, proof that Disney were fucking stupid for not casting Bennie as Scar in the Lion King remake.)
7) James (Third Star, the scream when he falls during a hike still haunts my nightmares.)
8) Martin Creiff (Cabin Pressure, Bennie at his funniest.)
9) Peter (Tinker Tailor Solider Spy, the scene where Peter has to end things with his partner hurts.)
10) Islington (Neverwhere, one of the best transitions from sweetheart to sinister I think any actor has done.)
I also love him for the documentary of Vincent van Gogh

Okay I understand Sherlock is amazing and he's incredible in it, but the imitation game should be 1, simple as that. How he managed to create smaug should also earn that role a higher place in the list. Otherwise a really good list

I don't know is it me or anything else..... I hardly understand rdj's accent. When I read sharlok homes my imagination of this detective mostly go to new modern version of sharlok character. Cumberbatch is awesome in this character.

I love BBC's Sherlock, but for me, one of his best performances will always be The Imitation Game, especially towards the end, with Kiera Knightley, when he reveals the hormone treatment he's undergoing. That scene never fails to bring me to tears.

He also really killed it as Julian Assange in the fifth estate (even though the film itself didnt convince me, bis performance was outstanding, as usual), as James in third star and as Stephen Ezard in The last enemy (highly recommend!)
