Keeping up with Commodore

- Sooo... here's an old earworm, that I just couldn't resist working on. Many of you remember the classic "Are you keeping up with the #Commodore" commercial, and I had several requests over the last year if I could do a number on this. I tried to keep as much as possible from the original, but upgrading it, beefing it up and make it a little more snappy.
Since there are no multitracks available with the original vocal recordings, I just used www.vocalremovers.org since it's free, and it did a decent job of separating the voices from the backing track. Some phasing and flanging occurs, but I hope the delay and reverb plus the blending in the mix covers most of that anyway.
The song is in 163 BPM, so there's little time to relax, but it also gives a good drive. Using a lot of everything here, #Roland MKS modules, #Yamaha TX and Motifs, #Kurzweil 1000PX and HX, #Alesis QSR, #Ensoniq SD-1, TS-10, #Sequential TOM and various other hardware synths. Some ReFX Nexus2 with various expansion packs here and there, and some SID/Chiptunes thrown in for good measure. It's after all... about the Commodore, right?
I tried to find the original composers and songwriters, but couldn't find any. If you happen to know who made this song, please let me know in the comments.

Whoever gave a thumbs down couldn’t keep up with the Commodore. Fact!
Haha, right on! 😁😎
100% correct! I fact checked it!
Oh man. I LOVE this. I will be singing this in the car, shower, or wherever I can!
Working out with the SX-64. Nice!
@@geekwithsocialskills I've been singing this everywhere ever since I heard it :)
Legend has that @TheGeekPub is still singing this song on a daily basis and already changed neigbours three times.
This is peak retrowave. Imagine a tv commercial becoming this popular 40 years after it aired.
Are yOOoou keeping up… 🎵 Great work mate!
well peri… are you?
We know you and the Mrs are keeping up with the Commodore :-)
Who else came here after watching the Retro Recipes episode where they received the Woxy record? 😂
@@wizdude I sent that to him! Haha
@@iamvonimmel well done! :-)
The world is a better place because of this.
It's funny how the reviewers of the C64SX said that staring all day at the tiny screen would give you a headache, when half the world is staring at a smartphone screen 24/7 these days 😂
True!! 😂🥸
to be fair, we usually hold our phones way closer to our faces than the typical sitting distance from an SX64 :p
What's funnier is that phones give me a much larger headache than these old computers...
@@EricICX "Don't sit to close to the screen or you will get cross-eyed." That was another thing I heard back in the day.
I never thought of it that way!
Mum used to sing this song whilst doing her house work. I'm so glad I was a c64 teen in the 80s.
@@simondobes8570 lol
I was 3-4 when I got mine. I had a head start because my mother was a programmer for IBM and some other big corporations on punchcard and ticket tape, so she knew the importance of getting me to learn how to program. Admittedly I've never programmed for a living, and went a different way in life entirely (tbh I saw the writing on the wall in the 90's - we were flooding the country with foreign workers, all of them had 'university' degrees with qualifications us natives could never afford or dream to obtain, so I knew these kinds of jobs were going to become low paying and high competition) but growing along side the developmental apex of the technological explosion helped my mind, and helped me study in ways I never imagined long before it became normal. I would never have graduated law school had I not had the foundational education I got from BBS' with internet links back when the internet was something rich businessmen only could afford.
I could totally imagine this playing at the Commodore booth at CES in 1985
I was singing and dancing to that tune while i was hugging my Commodore 64 and my Commodore 128. Excellent remix! I'll listen to it once more with my Amiga 2000 in my arms !!!!!!! Long live Commodore !!!!!!
America had the Apple II. The UK had the Spectrum. Australia had the Microbee. But we were all keeping up with the Commodore, and in return the Commodore kept up with all of us.
Cool C64 games are still being released today: FACT.
This is an excellent remix of Keeping up with Commodore. My favorite is the piano part solo, its fantastic!
Thank you very much! 🤘🏼😎
Oh sweet, yet another remix/remake of this song to get stuck in my head! And here I just finally got the Woxy version out...
Haha! I know! Been in my head all week too… 🥸😂🙈
1:23 - 1:56 Goosebumps... every... time... Great work!
I missed out on the Commodore craze, but enjoyed this nonetheless.
Man, I miss the 80s... Good times.
My dad went full-send on it even before I was born. By the time I was a kid, he had an Amiga 3000 (I think) and was teaching me to use his c64.
You can still find them in old retro game stores
There are two types of people in this video, people keeping up with the commodore and well...., you.
You lived through the 80's and didn't have a commodore to keep up with!? 10 lashings with a wet noodle for you! 🤣
If I didn't know better, I would have thought this was the original track, and Commodore licensed it in the 80s ads. Very very nicely done! Astounded how much you accomplished with a single jingle. 👍
my dad had a Commodore 64 when he was a kid, and he gave me that computer a few days ago. Im soooo excited to power it up, and play with it!
We got the Games (110), and the cable will arive tomorrow!, im so excited!!!!
this should be remixed for the launch of the commander x16! gotta keep up with the commander! cos the commander is keeping up with you!
Even though we will continue going into the future, the Commodore 64 will never die, because old tech always has a special place in the future.
This is brilliant. So many memories. The ultimate computer jingle.
And you even included the John Laws segment at the end. Thanks for that Australian tie-in.
In country NSW Australia where there was only one or two TV/radio stations (84-85) so many x-mas trees had the same shaped box under them because of John Laws endorsement.
This makes me happy. You could say it's Commodore-iffic!
That was *absolutely* brilliant.
Love the little John Laws bit at the end.
As an Australian that remembers when these ads were on TV, this remix brings me much joy!
Same, and seeing John Laws at the end was the icing on the cake.
@@nifmus it really was, so well done
Same still use my daily it's kept up with me
Absolutely Awesome ! I can across your channel through 8 Bit Guy, I have a small channel here in the UK, I think you music is brilliant ! Keep up the great work ! Regards Mike AKA MEC from MEC-TEC👍
Cool, thanks! Glad to hear that! 😎🤘🏼
Love the 8-Bit Guy cameo! Great work on this!
Super, super cool remake of this classic! I love Anders Enger videos! Really digging the cover of Jump by The Pointer Sisters too!
As of recently, I've been looking around CZcams to see what kinds of things people are doing with old tech and in particular, music related. I have an unlisted video where I'm using a Commodore 64 to play a synth solo over one of my instrumental pieces. Should be made public and discoverable in less than a week. The Commodore has the SID chip inside, which is part of what made it a great seller way back when (starting in '82, I believe). I'm playing my C64 SID via a guitar volume pedal at my foot to transition through scale notes. The pedal is connected to the joystick/paddle port on the paddle pins. Scales are stored in a que and selected by the computer keyboard during playtime. Hopefully, the vintage computing community will think it's as cool as I think it is. The software is 99.98% my creation and will also eventually be open source.
Thanks for this video!! It's quite inspiring! I would be honored if AEJ wanted to preview the video I've created. I'll send a link, if so. You might find the synth soloing technique interesting, but hopefully the song's good too and can stand on its own. I've been getting good feedback from people!
Awesome mix!!!
Also, I miss my Vic-20, A500, A2000, A3000, A1200, and A600. Wish i never sold them now, but i was young and dumb 😂
I found this video by accident and have no regrets. Great remake of old ad!
Nice cameos of David & Mike Murray, and of course, yourself!
Ok now this is all kinds of awesome... 2022 and Commodore is still keeping up with me!
This just makes me wish Commodore didn't go bust back in the day.
Imagine if they'd lasted until now. We could have Amiga laptops and some sort of weird Commodore smartphone.
@@sandakureva That would have been awesome man, what could have been!
This is one of the catchiest songs I have heard in ages.
I bet that the composers and some of the original singers (if some of them are still alive) would appreciate on what you've done to their song. I also bet some surviving former Commodore International employees would also be proud on what you've done to this classic jingle that was written and composed for some TV commercials for the company.
This is the most 80s ad music I've ever seen/heard!
I do like the Catchy Remix you did to the Song! I hope you keep making Retro Music like this!
My Australian friend approves!
Wish I could thumbs this up more than once. Bril.
I literally said "oh my god" when I saw the title of this video and dropped everything to watch it
I can remember the Commodore ads on Australian TV with John Laws (the guy at the end) :-)
FAAAANTASTIC. really captured the vibe & the era. thanks for that! and it even had a few contemporary c64 celebs!!! nicely done, congrats to all involved! :)
Glad you enjoyed it! 😊
Without question one of the best commercials for a home computer *ever* and what a fantastic remix, perfect as always Anders.
Lost my %$#@ at the guest-star salutes. 🤣 Perfect. Great work as always, AEJ. 🎵🎉 BTW, thanks for ending with Australia's own John Laws. 😁👍 🇦🇺 ('When you're onto a good thing, stick to it.' - J.Laws)
Brilliant stuff!
Also... Stuck in my ear now. AGAIN :P
Dang I haven’t seen the Geek Pub in like half a decade, this video was a nostalgia trip, I’ll have to go see what he’s up to these days.
What a great song! It's as if I'm about to watch my favourite 80s kids program on a Saturday morning in my pyjamas.
I am still keeping up with Commodore 64. Greetings from Karachi, Pakistan.
In 1982 Commodore Inc would have SHOWERED you with money for this funky version of their commercial tune!
🤓😂💖💖 Thanks! Glad to hear that. If only I had a time machine…! 😂
Thank you maestro Jensen! The world needed this!!!
I am keeping up with Commodore with pride :D
I can finally sleep knowing that this masterpiece was made and published. Well done.
This is such a nice and uplifting piece! I think this could be No. 1! Nice use of the original with your signature style and instruments. Love it! 😄
Such a catchy tune! Aussies really know how to write a great jingle!
Nice remix. Commodore Australia advertisements were awesome.
Glad you enjoyed it! 😊🤘🏼
Thank you Anders for the reimagined version of iconic computer commercial!
Feeling anemoia about the commodore 64 (I born after this machine stopped production) . Thanks commodore 64 for leading me into programming and became my childhood, although it's via emulator 😂😂.
2:40 Damn, the last ninja was gold. But pause and check frame by frame to the most underrated horror game of all times. PROJECT FIRESTARTER. That was terrifying to me as a kid! And yes that's a dead man who wrote danger on the wall with his severed arm before dying. I spent a long time considering whether I should continue past that room aged like 6-7. I mean, that's a compelling scene right there to stop and go back, or turn your C64 off. :P
LINUS Torvalds did his first programming on the Commodore. send him one. He would love it.
I'm in love with an era I didn't live on lol
I sit here with a Geforce RTX 3090, 4K screens, 11Tb disk space, lots of equipment and I still miss my Amiga.
Back here again, after the 2nd month in a row of this being stuck in my head.
What a jingle! Way to do it justice!
Awww.... I miss Commodore.
Sinclair approves of this Commodore product!
That goofy hand gesture though... perfect
This was the MOST WONDERFUL Video I've ever seen. So FULL of 80's MAGIC! What a catchy song!
CZcams notify this in a perfect time!
My friend has been obsessed with that commercial this past week! What a crazy coincidence you uploaded this. He's gonna flip!
Well done. You have ascended to cassette futurism godhood. Use your new powers wisely.
Takk! Anders koser seg.. det gjør vi andre også.. takk for positiviteten
Don't mind this earworm at all. Thanks for putting this tune together and sharing!
Actually bought a Commadore-128 because of this song
This hit homerun with me Anders :) Awesome remake!
HOW did I NOT see this until now as a subscriber of your channel?? THIS GAVE ME FULL BODY GOOSEBUMPS for real! 😍💖
Absolutely knocked it out of the park, best commercial tune EVER!
I listened to this 5 times in a row. I will continue for the next 3 hours.
FANTASTIC JOB!!!
The only earworm I wanna listen over and over again.
Exactly what I was looking for!
Finally! An 80's style remix of this! Nice work
Thanks!
Thank you very much! 💖
And they did introduce me to the world of future when I was 8 and we got an Amiga 500.
Love everything about your video :)
This has been stuck in my head for five straight days now. I wake up in the middle of the night in cold sweat, clutching my sheets - "AM I keeping up with the Commodore"?
I love everything about this!
This is gold!
The cameos of the retro computing youtubers makes this even better.
Great music vid!
BEST SONG EVER !
Somehow this reminds me of Disney's Videopolis Theme song. Great tune to play when fiddling with your Commodore. This song makes me bring my old CRT screen to replace my gaming monitor to enjoy these vibes.
This just makes me happy.
Absolutely great! Cheers! S
Awesome video! GREAT job!!! I just shared it on all my C64 & SX-64 FB groups.
Excellent work, hr. Jensen! :)
this has thankfully replaced at least two other earworms in my head, THANK YOU !! best song since Hey Hey 16k
New ringtone for my phone 😁
Ok, this just bumped Alpha Centauri to #2 favorite. Great work!
This is so awesome, so much energy and jusy perfect job Anders. I literally felt like running outside for three miles and then turning into a forest and then just punching a bear in the face and then see if the bear could keep up withe me while i am trying to keep uo with my commodore 🤣🤣🤣. Jokes jokes, but so awesome!
I would say this made my day, but I’d be lying. It made my month!
I kept up with the jones in the fast lane with my c64
Didn't think there was a better version than your original, and then I find this.
This is so cool! Thanks!
ah yes i love the cameos on this one!
Awesome!
OOHH WOOOW my head is in a spin and my eyes in a Daze.. PEAK EFFORT man I mean seriously top work in bringing this favorite jingle to life again. The Great Golden Dragon of Precious Productions thanks you with his fiery voice ... ROOOAARRZZZ !!!
Anders, this is my favorite keyboard solo of yours in a song, it's even better than the one in Discovision, these trumpets are so intoxicating and energizing. I have listened to the Woxy's original and you took it to the next level, great work, thank you!
Brilliant! Awesome! Catchy! Hip! Cool! I could keep going. You know how to keep up with the Commodore Anders! Well done!
Love the Boston homage in the middle! Amazing!
