      It's not actually a weight shift during a real swing, it's a pressure shift... goes from right heel to left tow, then left heel, .... dudes got a great swing. Appreciate his approach and attitude

    I use this step drill as part of my practice swing before I hit a shot on the course. The key for me though is focusing on turning my right hip behind me. If I don't turn enough with my hips my sequence gets all mangled up. With a proper turn it's effortless power. During a recent round one my playing companions made that exact comment. He didn't want to offend me comparing me to the ladies on the LPGA. I wasn't offended at all. I thought it was a great compliment. I felt like I wasn't really swinging hard and the ball was jumping. Great rounds are coming.

    You mention hanging back. It is possible to hit good shots doing this feeling if you let your arms rotate through from the start of the backswing. This points the face down at the ground.
    There is a fine line between hanging back too long & being flicky with wrists
    I find if I only rotate around my centre I can strike with less effort instead of trying to get through the ball on my left side. This ends up in a “muscling through” feel and my shoulders tense. I hold on & the face is open on the follow through

    I like this drill. I need to try it at the range.
    I noticed something about your swing that is similar to mine. As you follow through your lead arm / elbow doesn't tuck in very much and kind of chicken wings out. Do you have any thoughts on that? I know that's a problem for a lot of people with their trail arm / elbow on the backswing. I just want to know if I should be trying to improve my ability to keep the lead elbow close to my body after contact?

  • @dseveno8254
    @dseveno8254 Před 11 dny +1

    It appears that the shift to the left also reduces the likelihood that you'll pull the ball left. I know when I hang back I get the clubface pointing well left of target.

    • @industrialpalletworx3548
      @industrialpalletworx3548 Před 10 dny +1

      In a way yes. Padraig Harrington started messing around with the Happy Gilmore swing not long after the movie came out. He learned the value of ground forces as it relates to speed and took a swan dive off the cliff diving deep into the mechanics of speed. Now he's arguably the longest player on the Champions Tour and hits it much farther than he did in his prime.

    • @jchowngolf
      @jchowngolf  Před 12 dny +1

      It’s all about preference. I personally right now in my golfing development like the ball forward drill, but the step through drill has historically gave me incredible success. Have a go at both of them in your next practice session and see what one you like the best. They’re both great 👍🏼

    • @EdVonBoeckman
      @EdVonBoeckman Před 12 dny +1

      I found it. It makes sense. I’ll try this drill like I have many others. I just can’t seem to hit my irons above a wedge. I feel like I’m swinging with my arms before I get to the left side. Can’t seem to stop it. Will try both drills.

    • @stukatchoo6784
      @stukatchoo6784 Před 12 dny

      @@EdVonBoeckman I found the ball forward drill a lot easier than the step in drill, you'll be surprised how much you flush the ball at the range with the ball forward drill. You could easily play a full round of golf using it, just be aware that the ball will launch higher, you'll lose a bit of distance and the ball will pull slightly left.

    I have always hit my 7 iron 150 pretty much, having a very neutral stance, neutral grip, relying totally on timing and wrists to generate power. I'm not BAD playing like that, often I hit nice shaped shots etc. But I just spent a session working specially hitting through the ball, taking a divot and driving into my left side and turning hard, and within a single session I am now hitting my Pitching Wedge 150, my 7 was pushing 180.
    So this definitely works. Question will be how consistent I can get with it, and how it'll go with dodgy lays out on the course

    • @sdiver68
      @sdiver68 Před 12 dny

      If this has created more shaft lean, hitting with divot in front of ball, and better weight transfer forward it should help on any lie with an iron (except specialty shots for example sand splash)
