    So there's been a lot of confusion about who is SCX and Scalextric and what the relationship is or should I say... was.

    I have SCX track, I've heard it's compatible with older scalextric track, but the slot isn't as deep as other modern tracks

      yes the older Scalextric UK track and the Original SCX track are essentially the same track.

    Don't forget the the Spanish Scalextrix company and SCX made a lot of different cars than the UK Scalextric company.
    There was also Scalextric France that made different versions of the UK Scalextric cars and products as well as a wider track later on.
    Scalextric was also made in Australia, with a few different versions of the UK cars, and New Zealand that also had a few slight variations of the UK cars.

    Thanks as always Dave. Very interesting video. The link to the Scalextric family tree really helped to sort their history out. I found the connections to other players like Lionel, Marx, and Ninco fascinating. One piece of Scalextric/SCX marketing I always found unusual was their magazine connection. With the purchase of a Spanish hobby magazine you received part of a slot car maybe a body or a motor or wheels and tires. Eventually you had all the parts to build the whole car. I have a couple SCX Tech Toy Tyrrell P34's that I picked up on ebay that were produced that way.

  • @thor8640

    Thanks for the explanation, why do we see Spanish companies like SCX and Ninco (older Ninco as they now make toy'ish cars) manufacture so many Rallye cars? Not that I mind, but it always struck me as odd that the Spaniards explored that side of motor sport almost uncontended. Scalextric usually has one or two in their catalog as well, Carrera never did too my knowledge neither did as many as SCX and Ninco though.

    • @SlotCarNewsOfficial
      @SlotCarNewsOfficial  Před 3 lety +2

      Why? Because rally is popular in Spain. Carrera has done some but not many.

    Great video Dave about the confusing history of Scalextric / SuperSlot and SCX/Scalextric. I always found it an interesting quirk when I was getting into SCX Digital. Miss those old days when you were still w/ Tecnitoys and involved w/ the SCXWorldwide site.

      @@SlotCarNewsOfficial hello and thank you hey this worked for me.you might like this idea that I did. I. Ordered these old billboards from eBay made in 1974, they have been doing well, and they look great, there old AFX billboards , and they fit my track and they make such a great look, and I also would like to see if AFX yellow guardrails on all the straights just for looks , and also I want to try to find a good deal on some old AFX grandstands , remember, revamatic, sound, there is a small motor in side each grandstand, and they make the sound of a car running around the track and I gotta tell ya its big time cool when you are racing two cars and you can hear them going, like the good ol, days , yes when I was a young one every Christmas I told my dad and mom I want a slot car track, I just can't remember what I did with those sets, worth good money,now

    I bought an SCX F1 digital set back in 2007. I stopped using but want to get back into the hobby. I have heard they changed the tracks and the new scalexic tracks are not compatible. Is that true?

    Here's a plot twist for you. I bought a 1:32 slot car set from someone selling on a Craig's List type forum. Totally Scalextric/SCX design but named Wallop. It had F1 cars that were mostly the same livery as 2 SCX cars I already had (a Jag F1/HSBC logo and a Mercedes-McLaren F1/Kimi logo but with different sponsor logos). Any idea where they come from/were made by?

  • @DJSpannamanUK
    @DJSpannamanUK Před 3 lety

    I have a lot of SCX gear and it says it’s made by Technitoys
    And on the back of the track it’s says it’s licensed by Hornby to use the same design of the classic style track.

    • @SlotCarNewsOfficial
      @SlotCarNewsOfficial  Před rokem

      No current Scalextric track has very little grip. SCX grip is better. I don’t recommend Scalextric track.

    • @mealston1725
      @mealston1725 Před rokem

      @@SlotCarNewsOfficial this is disheartening, since I've spent a small treasure chest on my track system to date. So now I must decide what kind of surface paint that will increase the grip surface without affecting the polymer characteristics. Thanks Dave-

    SCX would do well to eventually unify the name in Spain , if anything to save costs. The could start by calling it SCX Scalextrix for a few years and eventually just drop Scalextric altogether. I can imagine having to do double branding for everything is not a cost saving measure. Especially now with Brexit they can take over the EU market as buying from the UK is suddenly more expensive.

    • @SlotCarNewsOfficial
      @SlotCarNewsOfficial  Před 3 lety +1

      But you have to understand in Spain it wouldn't be possible to drop the name, no more than it would for the British company to drop the name.
