Hahaha as soon as you closed the blue grill cheese maker I said "did he forget to put the top piece on?" The new fad in the USA is using what's called Texas Toast. That's the big sliced bread to use. The other gadget where you forgot the butter is used for French Toast....which is also excellent using Texas Toast! :)

Butter the outer sides of bread for toasted sandwich.
I used to have one of those presses in my dorm room in the military back in the 80's the infomercials were cool back then I used to make apple pies, pizza pockets, ham and cheese, hot dogs if you cut them half and use regular bread and a sort of French toast, I used egg whites from the carton.

It's because you bought the "butterbread" or "round top bread", if you got the actual "sandwich" bread it would probably fit the way it's supposed to. The sandwich bread is more square with smaller crust.
