- Eddie Izzard has launched a campaign to be elected as the Labour MP for a Sheffield constituency.
The comedian, 60, announced his intention to join the race to become the party’s candidate for Sheffield Central on Tuesday.
It comes after the constituency’s incumbent Labour MP Paul Blomfield announced in February that he was standing down at the next general election.
Mr Izzard has many connections to Sheffield as the city where he studied accounting, launched his creative career, ran through the city as part of his 43 marathons for Sport Relief and campaigned against the closure of the Leadmill music venue.
Julia clashed with Labour MP Siobhain McDonagh over whether Eddie Izzard should be considered for all-female Labour MP candidate lists.

He’s a bloke in a dress - in his own words! As a woman I feel absolutely insulted when men are called women, and the fact society just goes along with that makes me feel like women mean nothing and we’re just expected to put up and shut up. So much for men and women being equal.
When I use public toilets or changing rooms in shops, my husband now stands outside to guard against men trying to go into the ladies’ section. I can think of other countries where we criticise the culture for women being forced to have male chaperones to go out in public. We are heading the same way out of necessity for women and girls’ safety against these fetishistic men.
Tbh I’d feel like asking an assistant if men are allowed in. If it’s a yes then I might not use it.

She was referring to everyone in Britain having an ID card so you cannot be employed unless you have one. But as Julia pointed out they could get fake ones and also the people who employ the immigrants in the black market are already breaking the law so they wouldn't care less if they had ID cards.

There is a push for some form of National ID card in Australia too. It comes up every couple of years and gets shot down. We also had to deal with boat people. We started sending the boats back.

She also conveniently forgets, during the pandemic, labour voted for all the lockdowns and restrictions, indeed wanted longer lockdowns, which needed borrowing vast amounts of money (printing money) that has greatly added to the cause of the current inflation.
If we had a consistent lock down like Labour wanted in the first place then we wouldn't have had the clueless Tories launching 3 different lock downs, which resulted in the rise in inflation.

We already have an ID system in the UK. Its called your National Insurance Number. Everyone who works or claims benefits has one.

When Labour get back in, I want Eddie Izzard as our Foreign Secretary. He will be great on a visit to Saudi Arabia, Iran or North Korea.
As for Fracking you need to drill down over 1 to 2 miles to reach the gas, so I can't see that having any adverse effects on the surface.
The problem is house building, not pensioners whose wealth isnt liquid cash but just because the roof over their heads has become high value due to a housing shortage. That's not real wealth because everyone has to live somewhere and all property is expensive. Its nonsense when someone in a 2 bed flat is called wealthy just because property is so expensive in their neighbourhood that the cash value is enormous.

The way they talk you’d think us pensioners were given our houses, I spent 50 years slogging my guts out to get mine.
Pensioners that own their own homes. Most of them worked and went without many things to pay the mortgages.
Many of the jobs were also of a hard manual labour where little health or safety measures were in place.
Some people do seem to resent the elderly and what they have.
Even the MP was reluctant to answer the question on Izzard's' toilet fiasco and looked worried that she'd given the wrong answer. The correct answer is NO ! HE should NOT be allowed to go into womens' toilets.........unless he's a cleaner............................

7:00 I think we can tackle illegal immigration by firstly enforcing strong jail time for any employer found hiring non-legals and secondly by increasing enforcement agents spot checks on suspected employers. If no employer dares to risk employing non-legals then there's less incentive to immigrate here illegally.

British nationals already have a sort of ID card with our National Insurance number.
When I've gone for an interview for a new job, I had to take my passport in to show I was entitled to work in this country.

I actually liked this woman MP and I hate to say so. I think she was pretty straight talking and I thought well done. I think Labour will allow even more immigration so not sure I believed her on that point but Eddie Izzard was spot on.
