51,000 miles in on my 340D touring. 650 miles on a tank. Bonkers quick when it needs to be.
Incredible fuel consumption when driven normally. Fits dogs, bikes, luggage for 2 weeks holiday and does sub 5 seconds to 60. Average 51.7mpg since it left the factory.

Nice! i got 2007 W211, 3L too, 385hp/825nM. 1100km, and then Fuel light came.
Impossible. Simple thats 320d figures. F10 535d eu 400 hp deleted. Max I can get 38mpg cruising long distances 105kmpu max speed
@@izaya8986 not impossible. Can’t show pics on here but managed 760 miles (1200 kms) on a tank once. 60mpg. Far more economical than any previous 3.0 diesel I’ve had. I’ve done 400,000 miles in 330d’s
I did drive very carefully and fully utilised the MHT but it is an incredible motor.

BMW M340i with the B58 or M340d, both amazing, best cars at the moment
Have always had a soft corner for the m340d and its the one I would have. Everybody talks about the overachieving m340i while its equally capable brother, the m340d goes unnoticed

Diesel can never be killed off.
unfortunately not everyone thinks that way in the European parliament. Diesels are nice but they also are more polluting then petrol cars so that is why it will be more difficult to make them in the future.

@@ChR0nos_7734They are most definitely not scaling down production. Some manufacturers are scaling back their plans for when they go full electric and are now planning to keep their existing ICE cars longer in production or even work on future ICE cars, where before they were planning to be fully EV at that point. EV's are unfortunately but also most definitely the future still. They are simply much better for the environment so its a no-brainer. Companies are delaying their EV plans because electric cars are still too expensive, range is lacking and charging infrastructure is still almost non existent in some places. This progress is all going a lot slower then expected, hence the delays. Dont get me wrong, I hope they keep ICE in production for as long as possible, but to think that EV's (and for what its worth hydrogen) are not the future is simply wrong.

A sporty coupe, willing to tune it…why not going with the M440i in the first place? Suits the coupe far better. 40d maybe in the wagon, es a family car and with lots of miles. Okay.

That's an amazing spec, love the colour and cognac extended leather, bought a M340i Touring recently to replace a 330d and such a limited range of colours in UK but individual options are pretty expensive and adds about 6 months to the build.

Great review. I did however find myself looking out the window drifting off into a daydream. Sums up the diesel BMW for me. All a bit safe and sanitised.
I want this same exact configuration but with wood trim, full analog dash with a hideable nav screen would've been perfect. Oh yeah and those tires...definitely would toss those run flats for something with taller sidewall and better grip.
Merc has now e450d. Close to 400bhp :) would love to see that

So im so tempted to change my 2021 730d to m340d just for the engine and the driving dynamics. Yet i drove m440d a year ago (tezt drive) and did not feel faster than my 730d xdrive😢 was the same or slower. It could be just sensation as soft suspension in 7 series makes car feel faster when accelerating. Still 440d did not blow me away. Run flat tyers are pain in the ass till u get the neil. Over newyear eve i was doing 170kmh on motorway (not in Germany though 😅😅😅😅) and got a massive neil, i mean nearly broke tyer in half, but to my surprise i had not drama, car stayed stable just showed the info on the screen and the air prusser going down 0.1 Bar every second. So i had time to stop on emergency lane. They are hard and uncomfortable but after this incident im amazed that did not end up dead. The tyer had a cut so big i couod put my finger across. On the other note, drove e400d 2023 4matic and engine is mind-blowing. Beautiful drive and felt better than 440d.

It's so unhealthy for the engine to get turn off and on constantly. It's much better to just let it run while coasting.
That's the only bad point about this engine, the dreadful mild-hybrid 48V system

The only thing that sucks more than 19" runflats, are 20" runflats. Learned the hard way during a vacation in Italy. Flat tyre in Bologna, no fitting rubber yo be found 250km radius. I'm so happy to be on the winter 18" atm.
Changing my 19" to regular tires was a very welcome change.
Is it still bi-turbo, as per the previous 335d? I thought they dropped a turbo as it now gets low-end torque fill from the e-motor?

@@Vuxchenmy a6 allroad did 5.0l/100km highway and 7l/100km city, not far off from bmw diesel.
@@gullible119 well comparing a 540d and an audi s6 tdi the bmw gets ~1l/100kms better fuel econemy than the s6.
I drove multiple 530 and 540ds aswell as multiple 50tdis and audi s6 tdis and i can confirm that you can reach 5.0l/100km stated by the car. Sadly the car is around 0.3l off and the 540d gets easily below 5l if you drive efficently you can get low 4.Xl and the fuel consumption shown is far more accurate. :D
and all that while beeing alot slower and less responsive than the bmw.
I was really in love with a 50tdi a6 or s6 until i drove a 530d... (the older one with only 265hp and a single turbo) and it was way more efficent and responsive and when i sat in an lci 540d it was even quicker and even more efficent with the mild hybrid system.
I love audi yet my next car will probably be a b57 bmw... they are sadly way better :/

@@rv9990 That's wrong. Every BMW with a 30d in the name is a 3.0 ltr. 6-cylinder diesel. You are confusing it with 330i, which is a petrol engine.
If I where to buy a modern BMW, I would get rid off the run flat tires immediately and put 12-volt tire pump and can of “fix a flat” in the boot.
That fix a flat stuff never once worked for me. Maybe punctures too big I dunno
@@izaya8986 well, it has technically never worked for me either, since the only time I have been present when it was used, my mom had ran over a “Mora knife” which resulted it quite a large hole.
I also heard a story of when my sister was out with her friends and her friend blew up a tire on the motorway, I was absolutely choked to hear how poorly they handled that situation.
The warning triangle thing wouldn’t stay up, so my sister stood and held it, the friend that was driving sprayed the “fix a flat” on the out side of the tire instead of in it and the other made TikTok’s.
I never thought that I would have to tell someone that the “fix a flat” goes inside the tire and that should NOT stand on the motor way, that you should go and stand on the other side of the barrier.

@@izaya8986 Well yeah, the thing is that not standing on the motor way and putting the "fix a flat" in the tire is so obvious for me, someone who has worked as a car mechanic. But it is a scary realization that it apparently isn't that obvious and that my own sister would know what to do in a situation like that.
I know I shouldn't be surprised with the things I have seen people do, during my time working as a mechanic.
Like super glued tire sidewalls on Taxis, you aren't allowed to fix punctures on the sidewall, no worries, just super glue it.
I have also been asked to patch two ties, that had it a curb so hade that there where pieces of the wheel missing. "Are you sure you can't just patch those tires?" Yup.
Figures is not everything on paper it's as fast ir faster then the petrol. But i switched from diezel to petrol. Day and night difference in engine characteristics. The petrol is a wild horse wanting to gallop where the diezel is not a revving machine. It are the newton meters that make it strong but for inspiring driving not my cup of tea.

Good question. I did try both and was actually disapointed with M340D, nose heavy, not very sporty feeling (Pre LCI)
Diesel only if you really have to! Otherwise the petrol version is much more fun. So if you already considering both, go with the b58 engine.

700nm then less "powerful" than a battery impact gun? Torque doesnt say anything about performance. Connect that battery impact gun with 900nm torque to the gearbox and the car would hardly move at all.
