Thank you so much for doing this video man.
You are welcome. Thank you for watching.
You're so smart 🙂 We love you ❤️
Thanks. Love you guys
You could probably build a house on your own. Great job, I enjoyed watching it. Inspires me to do some diy
Thank you, I will be uploading part 3 probably next week, you will have to check it out. Thanks for watching
@@HippieHillHomestead Yes, I'll see what you guys did next
Nice video, I think it'd be nice to follow your progress.
Thank you. It will be the biggest barn I have built.
So what I want to understand is what are you doing to make sure the tops of your posts are even, or does that even matter? Awesome video sir!
I set my transit up in the middle of my barn and made a mark on every post. I measured from this mark to the top of every post to cut them off level all the way around. Great question and Thanks for watching.
👍👍
Thanks Scruffy61
Wondering about spacing. Looking down the long end, it looks like 10' spacing to get to the 60'. What was the front end including the center opening?
Awesome timelapse, going to the next video now :)
Yes it is 10 foot spacing. The gable ends are 12 foot from the corner the the hall way 6x6. I wanted 12 foot by 10 foot stalls. That is why I went 12 feet on the gable ends. Thanks for watching. I am glad you enjoyed it. If you have anymore questions just ask.
I was wondering why you didnt pour footings / sonotube type bases first. Then attach your posts to the concrete footing.
In my opinion putting posts directly in the ground is stronger than putting post on concrete columns. With concrete columns there are multiple points of failure. Now there is situations where I would use concrete columns such as extremely wet areas or poor soil conditions. I don't know if you can really tell in the video but when I shot our grade I sloped all the ground away from our barn. This will keep water running away from our barn, the next thing I did was painted the bottom 4 feet of each post with olympic water stain/sealer, this will help protect the posts for years. I was also able to set all my posts on solid rock. I only had to dig down on average 34 inches before I hit solid rock. Also by building lean-to's on each side of the barn the only support posts that will be exposed to water will be the 4 corner posts. This is just my opinion I could be wrong. I have put many posts in this way for years and I have never had a problem with one. Thanks for the question.
Bob
Very nice barn sir. What's the pitch on your trusses? I wanna do a pole barn aswell. I live up in Canada so I'm thinking about the snow load.
Thank you. We have a 5/12 pitch. If I was going to build one in Canada I would use a steeper pitch so the snow would slide off easier. Good luck with your build and thanks for watching.
What about an auger for that tractor.
Yes I would like to have one. Thanks for the comment.
How much did a building cost like this I like one this size
James, I haven't calculated the total cost yet. I have been reusing used material, recycling things and buying some new material. I will do my best to come up with a total cost breakdown and do a video on it soon.
Did you wrap all the 6x6 post that are in the ground and how deep do you suggest burying them
I soaked 3 coats of cabots sealer on each post and sunk them 3 feet down until I hit solid rock. If I could have I I would have put them 4 feet deep. Thanks for watching.
Where did you source the trusses from ?
Parker metal supply (931) 316-6635 They are great trusses.
What size posts did you use?
We used 6 x 6 pressure treated posts. Thanks for watching
@@HippieHillHomestead We’re doing the same size barn and lean tos- i’m getting excited watching yours go up!
@@BrandonSBaker We love our barn! It is very exciting once you get started. Good luck and if you have anymore questions let me know.
@@HippieHillHomestead will do thanks!
Are you from west Georgia?
We live in TN about 50 miles north of Chattanooga.
Was this a kit by chance sir?
No it wasn't. I ordered everything separate. Thanks for watching.
@@HippieHillHomestead who did you order the trusses from sir?
@@iwantosavemoney Parker metal supply Austin Parker Phone: (931) 316-6635 He made me a great deal.
Nice video but it killed me to see you digging all those holes manually. That’s a Lot of hard work.
Thanks Kevin. Yes it was hard work digging the holes. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching.
Makes me tired just watching you work...at 70 I don't move quite as fast as I could 20 years ago...
I know what you mean. I am 54 now and I can't work as long or as fast as I could when I was 34. This barn was a major project but I truly enjoyed building it.
look up gerrysdiy.com waste oil burner i have been using mine for 6 years for 2400 foot shop . 1 quart per hour no smoke no smell
Cool, Thanks for the information. I will check it out.
