    So what I want to understand is what are you doing to make sure the tops of your posts are even, or does that even matter? Awesome video sir!

      I set my transit up in the middle of my barn and made a mark on every post. I measured from this mark to the top of every post to cut them off level all the way around. Great question and Thanks for watching.

    Wondering about spacing. Looking down the long end, it looks like 10' spacing to get to the 60'. What was the front end including the center opening?
    Awesome timelapse, going to the next video now :)

    • @HippieHillHomestead
      @HippieHillHomestead  Před 3 lety

      Yes it is 10 foot spacing. The gable ends are 12 foot from the corner the the hall way 6x6. I wanted 12 foot by 10 foot stalls. That is why I went 12 feet on the gable ends. Thanks for watching. I am glad you enjoyed it. If you have anymore questions just ask.

    I was wondering why you didnt pour footings / sonotube type bases first. Then attach your posts to the concrete footing.

    • @HippieHillHomestead
      @HippieHillHomestead  Před 4 lety +6

      In my opinion putting posts directly in the ground is stronger than putting post on concrete columns. With concrete columns there are multiple points of failure. Now there is situations where I would use concrete columns such as extremely wet areas or poor soil conditions. I don't know if you can really tell in the video but when I shot our grade I sloped all the ground away from our barn. This will keep water running away from our barn, the next thing I did was painted the bottom 4 feet of each post with olympic water stain/sealer, this will help protect the posts for years. I was also able to set all my posts on solid rock. I only had to dig down on average 34 inches before I hit solid rock. Also by building lean-to's on each side of the barn the only support posts that will be exposed to water will be the 4 corner posts. This is just my opinion I could be wrong. I have put many posts in this way for years and I have never had a problem with one. Thanks for the question.

    Very nice barn sir. What's the pitch on your trusses? I wanna do a pole barn aswell. I live up in Canada so I'm thinking about the snow load.

    • @HippieHillHomestead
      @HippieHillHomestead  Před 2 lety

      Thank you. We have a 5/12 pitch. If I was going to build one in Canada I would use a steeper pitch so the snow would slide off easier. Good luck with your build and thanks for watching.

    How much did a building cost like this I like one this size

    • @HippieHillHomestead
      @HippieHillHomestead  Před 3 lety

      James, I haven't calculated the total cost yet. I have been reusing used material, recycling things and buying some new material. I will do my best to come up with a total cost breakdown and do a video on it soon.

    Did you wrap all the 6x6 post that are in the ground and how deep do you suggest burying them

    • @HippieHillHomestead
      @HippieHillHomestead  Před rokem

      I soaked 3 coats of cabots sealer on each post and sunk them 3 feet down until I hit solid rock. If I could have I I would have put them 4 feet deep. Thanks for watching.
