yeah that chorus is cool. never thought to phase modulate low res oscillators, but the lower bits phasing against themselves is a really trippy effect.

I finally got one, a shadow one. Been playing with it for 2 weeks straight. This is better than I could have ever hoped, the sounds u can get out of it are fu@cking incredible, many times I get goosebumps. So happy 😁 😀😀😀
Oh boy, gonna look at this after my work shift and I already feel I will hit the used market soon, wanted this thing for years and the latest Waldorf M won't be a full replacement anytime soon... Damn how much I love wavetable synths. Thanks Joey for your awesome reviews!
what i love about this video is that it was filmed on a iphone 2 but really, i love these in depth - deep sound design synthesis walkthroughs that no one else seems to make for the interesting synths
Top video. Thank you !! Strange that everybody claims the Microwave II sounds thin, while the XT is a Microwave II with knobs. And everybody says that one sounds awesome.... (I own a 30-voice XTK btw...)
So, does the M Wavetable pretty well replicate much of what the MICROWAVE XT did? For coming up with these wierd, sustaining noises, which is better... the Korg Modwave or the Hydrasynth? 17:48 That's your song backbone right there! Groovin'!
how does this compare to a Blofeld, most of thhose options regarding filter types, osc, fm, filter fm, etc... looks prety similar actually. Great content ;)
I’d say the blofeld is “warmer”, & less digitally distinctive (for its VA oscillators), & the XT is just digital insanity (in ways analogue can’t touch). With that said, I have preferred using my Blofeld as it has 2 fully feature multi-mode filters, along with 2 milti-mode distortion stages, allowing for some awesomely dirty bass & leads. They both have the crazy math equation mod sources. In truth you could easily own both & justify it.
LOVED my MXT, but sold it because, as with so many other Waldorf synths, over time, the rotary encoders always start to fail.....great video upload....
not easily....First of all, Waldorf went bankrupt years ago, and the company that bought the name, does not seem to have abundant replacement parts, nor an interest in supporting products that were in production in that old version of the company. Furthermore, I live in a remote area in Canada, so I'd have to send my gear off to a repair place, and hope that they can source parts......Then......I'd have to deal with the reality that the replacement encoders could be just as poorly made........It's a Shit Show
@@willswitchcraft I guess there is that reality of these older synths needing upkeep/repairs.... I suppose I could take a closer, more involved look at a synth that has caught my attention, that being the 3rd Wave. At the moment very few are offered up on the used market. Patience is a virtue...
The MW II (which is virtually identical) is on my wish list, off and on at least. Given that I don't have an awful lot of space where I have my synths, a module makes more sense. Unfortunately, some sellers have some misguided ideas about what these are worth, and ask for twice the average selling price.
@@saren6538 I'd say it's a matter of taste. The channel RetroSound (which is best avoided if you're suffering from Gear Acquisition Syndrome) has a video with a side-by-side comparison between the MW1 and MW2. Whilst a lot of people prefer the MW1, I personally prefer the clearer sound of the MW2. It's also considerable less expensive. The MW1 has been hovering around €1800 for quite a while now. And while asking prices for the MW2 are moving towards the "are you mad?!" price range, they're still cheaper.
In the next firmware 1.08, all the filters from the XT will be implemented in M. The machine only misses Unison, some math modifiers and FM between wavetables in order to be a full XT reissue, fingers crossed.

Been looking for an awesome XT video, and you nailed it, thanks. I will own one of these epic dream machines one day
Getting more expensive every year

I used to own the kb version, what an amazing synth ❤
Ughhh one of my biggest regrets in music gear was letting this baby go 10-15 years back . Good video thanks for the refresher . Cheers !
I bought mine new in 1998. Never gonna sell it.

Thanks Joey for your awesome reviews!
Great experimental / ambiant texture machine !
Fantastic demo. This synth has character!
Great review on this synth, there are not many (any) that go into this detail!
This is what Nine Inch Nails live is like

I'm thinking about to sell my MW1 and buy this Synth
Nothing sounds like the XT
Except for the Microwave II, eh?
Joey, I'm waiting for your PWM Malevolent review. That little bastard sounds mean.
Ask PWM to send me one, or subscribe to my Patreon and buy my music to help me afford one :)
man i love these videos, nobody demos synths better than you do.

Love the t-shirt, yo
Very good demo! Nice 242 t-shirt 👍👍
nice video.. time for me to dust off my 30 voice XT!
26:23 I like when you said "What the fuck is happening"
😂
Very nice Demotrack😎🤘

U can make almost any style of sound with that beast.
Perhaps, this could be great for creating some Dungeon Synth soundscapes?
Ulghh I want this so bad

Yes! Killer Front 242 shirt!!!
With diference has this one with Waldorf M? I didnt know about this one xt..sounds amazing
Been waiting for this one!
great job - lovely instrument. I have to clean on all the pots on mine - LOL.

@@simonnormansound thanks for replying Simon. It does make complete sense ;)
It's got that ppg wave digital sound to it. I like pure fm synths more, though, like the dx7 im familiar with the cold sounds but i like them.

What are the pin/barrel dimensions of the Waldorf MicroWave XT's power jack?
Amazing!!

You’re missing out by not fucking with the wave enveloping. This takes the synth to places you can only dream about. Duh!

Super Dope
What’s up with the fashion pic in the thumbnail lol
Where come the drums from?
My analog RYTM
you might get more interesting results when approaching it more subtle
@Blush Response One year later. Do you prefer this or the hydra? Probably a stupid question since i don't see it in your 2024 studio setup :D

very different
