  • Here's Marlon performing "Don't Go" on The Late Show in 1987, w/Arsenio Hall. Marlon actually gave two performances on this episode. The other one is of "Baby Tonight", which I've also uploaded. I captured this video from my own VHS-recorded copy of the broadcast from back in the day. :)

      He was obviously being sarcastic.
      1. In his own unauthorized autobiography, Michael said that it was Marlon who got them licks most of the time because he struggled with the moves.
      2. If you've seen that "American Dream" TV special about them where Angela Basset plays Katherine, there's a scene where Marlon misses, stumbles over his own feet and he gets licks. Then, in a later scene, he's bopping down the sidewalk by their house, rehearsing, and LITERALLY falling over himself.
      Ya'll are so blind over his little brother, you can't even admit that the only other singer in the family is Jermaine. Everyone else's vocals are weak, including Janet's. The only one with a voice and moves was Michael. Period.

      @@nadiar.7788 Marlon could always dance off the fly or freestyle dance tho even if he had trouble doing certain steps or routines in order in the beginning when they first started out. Marlon in the later years even choreo most of the group dance routines. Michael actually got most of the beatings outside of them rehearsing cause he said he use to fight & hit Joe back. Marlon came up with a lot of The Jacksons signature moves (bottom line). when Jermaine left the group, Marlon was the ONLY brother who could do jermaine's parts because their vocal tones were somewhat similar & MARLON DID AN EXCELLENT JOB HOLDING IT DOWN which in addition to MJ's leadership enabled them to continue to have success as a group in the mid-70's Marlon's role was & always will be vital in the Jacksons !

    Here Are The Facts For Those That Wanna Learn Or Know The Real Jacksons History:
    Though MJ was the star of the Jacksons....MARLON WAS WITHOUT A DOUBT THEE DANCER. He was the main choreographer along with Jackie & MJ for many of the Jackson 5 famous routines. This has been confirmed by ALL of his brothers including sister Janet & MJ who gave Marlon his ultimate props in several chapters of his "Moonwalker" autobiography. Even Hazel Gordy said that Marlon was the main dancer in the group and she was married to the bass player so you know she aint being biased LOL. MJ became the better dancer by default because he was the star & because he had a inevitable solo career, it gave him more time to develop his dancing craft to beyond sick levels whereas Marlon had to play his position in keeping certain routines together for the rest of the group which is why when the "Victory" tour was over, Marlon decided it was time for him to do his own thing fully especially since his hit song "Body" kept the Jacksons "Victory" album on the charts being the last single to be released from it
    In the early days before they came to Motown, It's true that Marlon got the most whippings for not keeping up with the choreography & having a hard time vocally....NOT BECAUSE HE COULDN'T DANCE but It's that Marlon was more of a freestyle dancer whereas MJ was a natural at picking up choreography routines but as MJ has stated about Marlon "That would later become far from the truth once they got to Motown"...When Jermaine left the group, Marlon stepped up his game even more vocally and did all of Jermaine's parts while still holding his own harmonies. For true Jackson fans who have seen all Jacksons tours from "Destiny", "Triumph" & Especially "Victory", they already know that there was a special dance chemistry bond between MJ & Marlon which is normal when you rehearsed, performed & worked with your brothers for 20 years so when people say that Marlon is copying MJ, THEY SOUND STUPID ! THEY ARE BROTHERS ESPECIALLY BECAUSE THEY WERE THE CLOSEST TO EACH OTHER....EVERY musical family does it from Debarge to The Sylvers....Janet has also copied MJ & even borrowed his original military dance blueprint for her "Rhythm Nation" success so if people gonna diss marlon for copying, they might as well diss her too
    In addition to his singing & dancing, Marlon is also an accomplished producer who produced songs for Barry White, Betty Wright & gave his sister Janet her first REAL hit before she hooked up with Jam & Lewis with "Don't Stand Another Chance"....And though his critically acclaimed album "Baby Tonight" wasn't a huge seller, his song "Don't Go" was a #2 hit on the Billboard R&B charts which is pretty damn successful considering the fact that MJ, Jermaine & Janet were killing the charts with their solo work so there was hardly any room
    Now if you not a fan or don't like him, that's totally ok but don't discredit him or his talents just because you are a MJ fan....GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT.....MJ never ever downplayed his brothers even at the very height of his success & always championed their incredible talents more than his own shit

    In actuality Michael imitated Marlon. Marlon choreographed most of the Jackson 5 routines. It's only because you've probably only known of Michael in your lifetime that you would think differently. But those of us that were there from 1969 (the beginning) and forward know who the better dancer is. As a matter of fact, Michael in 2013 at 54 years of age could never have performed (danced) the way Marlon performed on the Jackson's recent Unity Tour.

    EXACTLY !!!!! THOSE AINT PITY CLAPS & SCREAMS FROM THE CROWD !! In light of today's artist who lip-synch & auto-tune & cant sing & dance at the same time, MARLON WAS SHOWING & PROVING IT CAN BE DONE...30 YEARS EXPERIENCE ! EVERY true die hard Jacksons fan know how ill Marlon was & STILL IS ! MJ said it best in his own words that he learned certain things from Marlon as well as him coming up with most of the groups signature moves & the fact that he helped out MJ vocally on that "Destiny" tour

    @Diamonds7771 everybody had their role in Jacksons...plain and simple..MJ was designated leader from the beginning...what's amazing about Marlon is not only is he co-choreographer behind many of the famous J5 routines but when Jermaine left, Marlon tremendously stepped his vocal game up to do his parts & may i say, he nailed real good while still having to sing his own harmony parts.

  • @lawplanet12
    @lawplanet12 Před 12 lety +10

    There is NO SUCH THING as impersonating when he is your brother....these boys were in the trenches together 20 years BEFORE Thriller....it's called family magic...the jacksons have this brotherly element & it shows in so many different ways...they do certain routines & poses without even looking at each other

    marlon is the most underrated to be talked about in the 1st gen jackson family. he's such a sweet person i bet, and very talented! i really think he coulda had his own catalouge if he wasn't asociated with his rival siblings or expected to be better than michael or janet.

    and as far as singing goes...it's no secret that when J5 first started, he had the most trouble...WHAT MEMBER OF ANY GROUP DOESN'T ?! but by the time they got Motown, Marlon was ready which is why you can hear his 2nd tenor harmony note in every Jackson 5 record & on the later albums, Marlon had several lead parts in songs like "Corner Of The Sky", "Mama Got A Brand New Thing", "I'll Bet You"...not to mention that when Jermaine left in 1975, MARLON HAD TO DO ALL HIS PARTS & HE NAILED IT
