You’re correct. It’s about dementia and Alzheimer’s. The disappearance of objects starts much sooner than we realise on first viewing of the video. Courtney wrote the lyrics and her vocal melody and as well as collaborating closely with her husband Mike Stringer (on that lovely guitar), as she always does (he writes all the instrumental music), for this she also collaborated on the video with director Dylan Hryciuk (Versa Films). As others have said, she wrote this for her late grandma, Phyllis, who’d always asked her to sing a song “without that scary screaming” at her funeral. Phyllis passed away during lockdown, and as she lived in the US and Courtney lived in Canada, she couldn’t attend the funeral, so wrote this. The characters (aside from Spiritbox) in the video are actors - who do a fantastic job, I think. Constance was in fact the name of Dylan’s grandma (many ladies with that name shorten it to Connie, by the way - I’ve noticed that because it’s not a name in fashion at the moment, younger people sometimes don’t realise it’s a name at all). Anyway, at the time, Constance was struggling with worsening dementia. The grandson in the video looks a lot like a younger Dylan, and the old photo where the face blurs away is of the real Constance. Courtney’s tears at the end are real, too.

I think this is almost like a audiovisual piece meant to be heard and seen and then you have as byproduct the song, it gets so much more impactful with the video, amazing job by the band and as you said in the end, they keep their lane of doing things in their way. I would love you to react to “prisoner” by “Novelists” another band lead by a female singer called Camille (french, wrote in english) im 100% sure you will love it

She wrote this for her Grandma bc her Grandma wanted a song "without all that scary screaming" (something like that she said) and during COVID she couldn't see her grandma and lost her Grandma and never got to sing this for her.

The song is a tribute to both singer Courtney LaPlante's grandmother, Phyllis, who died in 2020 and video director Dylan Hryciuk's grandmother, Constance, who both died of dementia.
Courtney LaPlante came to Spiritbox's director Dylan with a proposition: Let’s create the music video and the lyrical content of the song at the same time. We both felt compelled for the song and story to reflect the sorrow we both feel about our grandmothers passing away recently."
Sadly, travel restrictions that were enacted as the coronavirus pandemic worsened worldwide prohibited LaPlante from getting one last opportunity to spend time with her grandmother.
    "Due to border shutdowns,
Courtney LaPlante was not able to say goodbye to her grandmother Phyllis, to whom the song is in tribute, or attend her funeral," lamented the frontwoman.
"I always promised her that I would sing at her memorial service, because she always requested a 'pretty song with none of that scary screaming.' I hoped writing this song with no 'scary screaming' in it would help me find a sense of closure."
LaPlante further elaborated, "Dylan wrote his video concept to honor his grandmother, Constance, to whom the video is in tribute. Our music videos usually have a horror element to them, and we wanted to explore a different side of horror: the horror of feeling like your mind is betraying you, due to a long battle with dementia. With Dylan’s permission, we named the song ‘Constance’ to immortalize her story."

Her grandma passed before she did the song so her grandma never got to hear it 😢
